Am dating this guy.

Early days.

I offered to cook for him.

Asked him, is there anything you don’t eat.

Only veg he eats are peas and sweetcorn and tomatoes if they are in a sauce.

Wtaf? And no he’s not 5 he’s in his 40s

I’d be out of there in a flash, I can’t abide picky eaters! Massive turn off for me.

ChilliBandit · 13/03/2023 20:35

Veg fussy DH also runs long distances, has a healthy BMI and very low cholesterol. Not eating an aubergine doesn’t make you a lard arse.

Tekkentime · 13/03/2023 20:35

Does fussy eating feel like morning sickness?

I.e, I couldn't stand carrots without being sick, is it like that? Or does fussy eating feel different?

Radiatorvalves · 13/03/2023 20:35

Big ick. I love food and cooking. And eating now and again in fancy restaurants. I don’t think you’re compatible. And 40s I doubt he’ll change.

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 13/03/2023 20:35

ChilliBandit · 13/03/2023 20:30

@IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills - when it’s my turn to cook, I just cook a meal, whatever I fancy. DH eats the parts he likes which is normally most of it and then if still hungry has something else as well. It’s not rocket science. The OPs boyfriend probably eats loads of stuff, I am not sure why it’s such a big deal he is picky on veg. Part of being an adult is not having to eat shit you don’t like.

Tbh imho it is a rocket science when person only eats 2 veg. Fine not to eat some we all have something we hate, but 99.9% is a lit.
Eating around works fine with some dishes, not with others.

CerealNCer · 13/03/2023 20:26

I wouldn't have sex early days or date someone who only eats peas and sweetcorn. He's probably a gamer, too isn't he? Pasty and doesn't do any sports for fun?

This is so mumsnet. 😂😂😂

Izearle · 13/03/2023 20:36

Besswess88 · 13/03/2023 19:43

I love cooking 😭😭😭

Then you aren’t compatible.

I love cooking too and that would put me right off.

Zanatdy · 13/03/2023 20:37

Why is a dietary require a red flag? Two of my kids are quite fussy, not big veg eaters. The other eats anything. How bizarre they might one day have a fellow partner think it’s a red flag that they don’t eat broccoli. Only on mumsnet.

SheilaWilcox · 13/03/2023 20:37

I'm a fussy eater and I hate myself for it. I actually think I need therapy, hypnosis or divine intervention to deal with it. I'm nearly 50 and buy different things from the supermarket in an attempt to broaden my tastes, but I am often left shaking and crying trying to force myself to eat things. It's both taste and texture for me, but I don't have any other sensory issues and consider myself NT.
I understand it might put people off dating me (if I wasn't already married,) but the other assumptions on this thread are really sad (for me) to read.

MulletAndMustache · 13/03/2023 20:37

smellyflowers · 13/03/2023 20:33

Oh I thought you meant the pastry item from Greggs!!!

😂

Would he eat a pasty OP?😂

Nosleepforthismum · 13/03/2023 20:37

Yeah, I’m one that would find this deeply unattractive. There is an immaturity about it. Pretty sure most of us would prefer a plate of chips over a plate of broccoli but as adults we eat the broccoli because it’s good for you.

I have an acquaintance who’s husband eats no vegetables or fruit at all. Apparently he simply doesn’t like the taste. I find it crazy that she actually wants to have kids with this man. What kind of example would he set?

WishIdDoneItYearsAgo · 13/03/2023 20:37

Betsyboo87 · 13/03/2023 19:53

Off putting to me. I don’t really understand fussy adult eaters. You’re an adult, just eat what you’re given. The only veg DS (aged 2) will eat is broccoli so we have it a lot. I don’t particularly like broccoli but I’m an adult so I just get on with it. If someone invited me for dinner then I wouldn’t dream of saying “well I don’t like broccoli”, I’d just eat it and be polite. Allergies, intolerances etc are different but if it is just preference then I can’t deal with it. I would wonder what else they would be picky about.

But sometimes there is something that people just cannot bring themselves to eat. For me it’s eggs. I hate them and I will literally vomit if made to eat them. I’m not fussy about anything else and certainly not veg but obviously this means I don’t eat eggs or anything made from them such as quiche or anything with mayonnaise. I think it’s hugely unfair to suggest that a serious aversion is just fussy nonsense. I would literally starve myself if there was only eggs on offer and I say that as someone who loves food and a wide variety of it.

fantasyhomesbythesea · 13/03/2023 20:38

YANBU OP . Do you think he's aware himself that it's not normal eating habits for an adult?

It would definitely put me off unfortunately. Similar to the thread with the guy who on the date ordered a glass of milk 😂

This is a great explanation for me. I feel nausea just putting it in my mouth.

KillingLoneliness · 13/03/2023 20:39

I don’t understand the issue? Everyone likes different things? Why is it an issue if someone is a fussier eater?

JobSeekingMissile · 13/03/2023 20:39

So much judgement. I was abused as a child by a violent and controlling parent; one of the things they did was to force feed me vegetables because they are good for you. I've ended up unable to eat all these foods that are good for me and have an eating disorder.
its embarrassing and makes my life harder as I'd love to eat normal healthy food.
I've got to the point that I tell people now when they mock me and it usually stops them. Unbelievably both parents still comment on it as if they have no idea of the cause and I'm just picky.
Not everyone is in my shoes, but why do you need to judge what he eats? You still eat what you want as my DH does.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 13/03/2023 20:39

Its massively immature and would e a total turn off for me. Shows a lack of adventurousness which would be a deal breaker for me.

I'm sorry that's not fussy eating that an actual disorder. That kind of reaction to food is not normal in any way

pinkfondu · 13/03/2023 20:40

The sex is only fine and now e food is also gonna be fine, what's the point 🙄

ukgone2pot · 13/03/2023 20:40

Can't believe the responses on here. There are a ton of dishes that don't require veg that you can enjoy and get creative with. Just look at the Asian culture - it's mainly rice, meats and curries.I would be more concerned if they didn't eat much fruit though - that would be more odd to me.

Owen456 · 13/03/2023 20:40

I’d find this unattractive if he wasn’t willing to try new foods . My OH used to be a veg dodger and frozen meal type of guy now he’s eats anything I cook . I used to be a chef so do all the cooking

Anotheroverreaction · 13/03/2023 20:40

Extremely immature- I’d get rid immediately

ChilliBandit · 13/03/2023 20:40

@SheilaWilcox - that’s how I feel about avocado, I feel nauseous just typing it. I am a professional with a degree but probably an immature toddler in the eyes of some people here Hmm

Birleygirl · 13/03/2023 20:41

I am that fussy eater, but I see it as my hang up and I can always find something to eat in restaurants and I love to travel and try new things, If friends cook a meal I generally try to eat round the things I don't like and if seconds are offered or even dessert I say politely I'm really full thanks. My DH isn't bothered by this at all. It bothers me more than him as I know I'm a grown-up and I should be able to eat everything but I just can't. I don't make a fuss or pull a face but there really are some things I just can't eat.

Really? That's so interesting.

Must be awful, morning sickness was bad enough but at least that ends.
