Just got our new council tax bill, besides the fact that everything has gone up I'm annoyed at the way it's addressed.

I registered us, my name was first.
I own the house.
The money comes out of my sole account.
Both my first and last names are first alphabetically.

Yet somehow magically the council have his name first.

AIBU to be annoyed?

Just get it changed. Had the same with my gas bill.

Irritating but not worth getting worked up over it.

Plumbear2 · 13/03/2023 12:43

You are being unreasonable. Mainly because most of us have actual problems to worry about

Schmutter · 13/03/2023 12:44

I’d get it changed. No excuse for this nowadays.

Lonecatwithkitten · 13/03/2023 12:45

We are married, but I am first as I registered.

KievsOutTheOven · 13/03/2023 12:45

Nope, I’d be annoyed at that. Our council tax bill comes in with my name first because I’m the one who initially set it up.

starlight207 · 13/03/2023 12:46

I just got my council tax bill the other day, my name is first and his second. Really wouldn't bother me either way.

Wish i had this concern to be worried about enough to post on here.

This is a non thing - just let it go.

No need to be bitchy

I'm sorry I forgot that it's only possible to worry about one thing at a time and that being mildly annoyed at council sexism means I have nothing else going on in my life!

Hbh17 · 13/03/2023 12:51

Been married 33 years, & living in our house for longer, and utility bills have only ever been in my name. Never occurred to us that they needed both our names on. Husband has never even seen or paid one - lucky him! (He does pay for plenty of other things tho).

FourFour · 13/03/2023 12:52

Could care less about petty issues like this. Stop looking for a problem.

I'm not being bitchy. It's the truth.

I hate this sort of reply.

MN is full of pretty grievances, minor inconveniences and gripes. That is the nature of a bloody chat forum. If we only posted our ‘actual problems’, it’d be a bit dull on here.

Just because it might not matter as much as something else in the great scheme, it doesn’t mean it’s not worth mentioning.

So you do care a bit then, considering you could care less.

Council sexism.? Really? You have far to much time on your hands

This

Could care less about petty issues like this.

So you do care? Otherwise, you'd have used the correct phrase: "I couldn't care less..."

This would and does make me livid. I had the same thing with a flight I booked and paid for. Dh was the lead passenger and received all emails. Why the fuck?

Where I am; utilities are in one name (mine) but council tax has both adults because you both need to be registered (I think it’s because of the single person reduction that every adult needs to be “named” somewhere)

council tax is the only one with both our names on it

LadyHarrietVane · 13/03/2023 13:22

I don’t see it as a petty problem. I see it as part
of the enshrined sexism of our society, and it needs dismantling piece by piece.

That would be highly unusual, given that the first passenger named is automatically the lead passenger. How did they get his email?

And yet here you are in the middle of rhe day reading and replying to these menial threads like the rest of us. Don't you have your bigger problems that you should be off dealing with?

Michellebops · 13/03/2023 13:27

I just looked at ours and my name is first. It's my partners house and I moved in 11 years after he bought it.

No sexism by our council

Bills with the man's name first.
MrsMSM · 13/03/2023 13:29

We received ours today
My name is first. No idea who set it up and it's paid from a joint account.
