To applaud Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, and think Suella Braverman is looking like a fool for not even understanding the comment

Lineker called the immigration policy cruel, and compared the language and attitude of the government to 1930s Germany.

I hundred percent agree with him

Braverman started denying that anything that is happening in UK is comparable to the holocaust

She is spectacularly missing the point. The holocaust didn't happen in the 1930s

What happened in the 1930s was the slow and steady build up of racism and aggression and hate, that resulted in the holocaust in the 1940s

And the noises coming out of the government are very much like 1930s nazis

For those of you that don't have any interest in Match of the Day, Gary Lineker, the main presenter, has been suspended, in spite of being a sports commentator, and NOT a news reader or involved in current affairs programming, and NOT bound by the impartiality clause, and his two top fellow presenters have refused to appear without him

So either the BBC bosses (tory appointees) have scored a spectacular own goal,(unintended pun) in trying to supress Lineker's opinions, and turning them into world wide headlines,

OR!

Maybe they are secretly working against the government by choosing a course of action that will actually make the tories look like complete fools, while pretending to support them!

I’d rather have a labour government overseeing the welfare of Britain and non Etonian’s in the grip of austerity than a Tory government. I think we all would.

We’ve all seen Tory priorities and mismanagement ad nauseum . I don’t think there is a party who could do any worse for your average working family.

Not only that, but any brexit voters would have been placed in stocks and pelted with turnips. This place is very one-sided on some issues.

Yes. On some it’s probably more even, but on immigration which includes Brexit, it’s not

WeWereInParis · 11/03/2023 10:45

If he's tweeted his support of the Labour party nothing would have happened. If he'd called the Labour party Nazis, the same thing would have happened as is happening now.

Alan Sugar once tweeted a photoshopped pic of Corbin sitting next to Hitler at a rally/parade type thing. I don't remember the BBC reacting but I could be wrong.
I very much doubt the Tory party felt the need to raise in the Commons how disappointing they all found it.

Okay, let’s say we do a safe route and the number of refugees increases.

What do you think will happen? Services become overburdened, people become resentful, who do they vote for at the next election? It’ll be the Tories, again. They sure as fuck won’t be voting for Labour who they see at the party of further immigration (even if the numbers don’t say this, they won’t stop thinking it). People only want ‘socialism’ when the country is doing well.

Let's blame migrants for the government's failure.

Nothing new there.

oh, big fucking yawn
Actually this is very important. It isn't about Gary Linneker's opinion, it's about the establishment attempting to control the media and take away freedom of expression. It's something that the Conservatives have usually been said to deplore.

Of course the news needs to be reported impartially and not as a party political broadcast but that doesn't mean that everyone working for the BBC in any capacity is barred from expressing an opinion. Gary Linneker is not a newsreader or political journalist.
As other posters have pointed out it's very inconsistent. No-one pulled Gary up for saying Corbyn should go, Alan Sugar was free to say that Labour voters lack life experience.
It's been clear that the sections of the press attempt to manipulate the public for decades. Now the BBC are doing it openly.
It is indeed like the precurser to what happened in Germany and it needs nipping in the bud.

They can’t answer about any of the practicalities, or the fact women will be less safe as a result.

It’s just blah blah blah Tories, blah blah blah Suella Braverman.

They say we’re ‘punishing refugees because of the Tories’, whereas they want to punish women and the poor because of refugees 🤷🏼‍♀️

WeWereInParis · 11/03/2023 10:51

and if he's housed a couple of refugees, I would assume his property is so big that he would have nothing to do with them.

Initially you said he should house some refugees. When you were told (by many many posters) that in fact he had, it's "well, he wouldn't have noticed them anyway!"

It is almost as if the BBC and the government felt the need to prove the point that Gary Linekar was making.
I am not sure they are bright enough to realise that is what they have done though.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2023 10:51

It’s very important but the thread is running out due to bumping with nonsense

And there we have it - apparently adding more unsafe men to the U.K. will stick it to the party of rich people that will never have to see them in day to day life.

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 10:53

DuncinToffee · 11/03/2023 10:52

Nope! You’re the one saying ‘welcome’

The end!
