To applaud Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, and think Suella Braverman is looking like a fool for not even understanding the comment

1000 replies

Nimbostratus100 · 10/03/2023 19:44

Lineker called the immigration policy cruel, and compared the language and attitude of the government to 1930s Germany.

I hundred percent agree with him

Braverman started denying that anything that is happening in UK is comparable to the holocaust

She is spectacularly missing the point. The holocaust didn't happen in the 1930s

What happened in the 1930s was the slow and steady build up of racism and aggression and hate, that resulted in the holocaust in the 1940s

And the noises coming out of the government are very much like 1930s nazis

For those of you that don't have any interest in Match of the Day, Gary Lineker, the main presenter, has been suspended, in spite of being a sports commentator, and NOT a news reader or involved in current affairs programming, and NOT bound by the impartiality clause, and his two top fellow presenters have refused to appear without him

So either the BBC bosses (tory appointees) have scored a spectacular own goal,(unintended pun) in trying to supress Lineker's opinions, and turning them into world wide headlines,

OR!

Maybe they are secretly working against the government by choosing a course of action that will actually make the tories look like complete fools, while pretending to support them!

People don't take that MN vote seriously do they, I'm always contrary on that, I thought most were, its just a laugh.

It likely changes on title and wording but I wouldn’t use it over YouGov if looking for indication of public opinion

No doubt Alan Sugar was taken off the BBC as a result of the offensive tweets you have mentioned?

Has Gary Lineker deleted his controversial tweet? Alan Sugar deleted his. Did the BBC receive an official complaint about Alan Sugar's tweet?

What time is MOTD on?
Perhaps we should all stand on our doorsteps and applaud at that time?

To add if it had just been a reflection of something like Brexit, remain would have won

Gary Linekar's tweet is factually accurate. How can something that is factually accurate be controversial?

lollipoprainbow · 11/03/2023 09:31

@LakieLady that's as maybe but how do you think adding thousands more people into the mix is a good idea???

I think it wouldn't be anything like such a problem and that if our public services were adequately resourced, any pressure arising from an increase in population would be manageable.

I've had a fair few refugee clients over the years, in the course of both homelessness prevention/resettlement and welfare rights work. All bar one of them ended up working and paying taxes, at least two in the NHS, although some of them had to study so that their qualifications entitled them to register with their relevant professional body. The only one that I can recall who hasn't worked regularly suffers from severe MH issues arsing from things she witnessed as a child in her country of origin, which was riven by a brutal civil war.

Yougov had remain to win the referendum?
Well that's because its a left wing owned company.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2023 09:52

The pp I was quoting was talking about mn as was I

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2023 09:55

YouGov has polls for the government too. They show where they are matching others.

I suppose people can dismiss those too.

I’m glad people are concerned enough about strong support though to try to dismiss it, fine by me. As long as left wing don’t use it for any other poll.

Nimbostratus100 · 11/03/2023 09:56

Ttwinkletoes · 11/03/2023 06:51

U.K. has had immigration of 200,000 to 300,000 per year since 2003.
Since 1960 Germany’s population has increased by 10 million while the uk’s has increased by 20 million.
So much talk about other countries taking more immigrants than us so how can you explain this discrepancy.
Germany taking 800,000 in 2015 is not comparable with the numbers we have to deal with here overall.

Germany takes in approximately 5x more refugees per capita than UK

Factually accurate?
Braverman’s opposition counterpart, Labour's Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said that the £1.35 million a year BBC star was "wrong to say that".
“I just don't think you should make comparisons with the 1930s,” Cooper said.

Clearly controversial here - Jewish Chronicle:

Well I don't know which duffer wrote the Refugee Convention and who supported it, but it was clearly a very long time ago, was it But Jeremy Corbyn?

The UK govt had a lot of input into the drafting, so it might have been that woke lefty libtard Clement Attlee.

Germany takes in approximately 5x more refugees per capita than UK

The population density of Germany is lower than the UK so they should be taking many more as should Antartica.

Grumpybutfunny · 11/03/2023 10:00

It's time the BBC moved with the times his tweets represent his views and BBC tweets represent theirs. Everyone on twitter knows that and accepts it. It should have been a non story. The net should come under law or governance we are likely going to lose WhatsApp because the government is determined to control the net

And what about that woke Churchill and the ECHR, that bill doesn't reflect British values according to Braverman

Yes, owned by that renowned lefty Nadhim Zahawi, who crashed the pound during his brief tenure as Liz Truss's chancellor!

Well Attlee went to Haileybury not a proper school like Eton or Winchester so that probably explains everything.

no, by the reasoning on this thread, they should take in far less, but they take in far more

I didn’t realise only people who voted on YouGov had to own it.

I wonder who the people voting could be.. it’s a mystery

Nimbostratus100 · 11/03/2023 10:03

Th Uk doesn't take in anywhere near enough refugees.

There should be in international system, of all applications going through the UN, and each country taking a fair quota.
