The LGBTQ community got really mad at him for separating himself from them and saying he is a straight man and that clothes don't define your gender. According to those who got mad, clothes are a form of gender expression so he is defining his gender by how he expresses himself.
Lots of people on Instagram dress however for the likes and follows and attention and opportunity and sponsorships. He does his thing too. Good for him for being himself and wearing what he wants.
Many on this board have very traditional views on gender - it pops up all the time so I am not surprised that so many are against it and feel one should dress in a way their spouse finds attractive, stick to being stereotypically feminine or masculine in clothing choices in alignment with your sex, and to not draw attention with their clothes.
