Do you share bath water?

Lighthearted - do you share bathwater?

I tend to run a bath for the kids (1 & 3 so young) then often top it up and get in myself or my DH will. Occasionally me or DH will then get in after each other so the bath water will have bathed the whole family. DH joked with DS3 not to tell anyone as they’d think it was disgusting.

So thought I’d find out if we really are totally grim.

YABU - we don’t share bathwater that’s disgusting, you vermin.
YANBU - we do this too.

On the rare occasion I have a bath DH has it after me, but we don't view each other's bodies as disgusting.

Absolutely would not do this.

mamnotmum · 09/03/2023 19:34

Yup we do (now they are old enough not to wee in it!)

That is a hazard with DS1 who wees the moment his nappy comes off!! We all moan at him and empty the bath 😂

I don’t do this, no. The water wouldn’t be hot enough for a start and I’m pretty sure if I used the same bath water my babies/toddlers had been in I’d be bathing in their wee. I suppose the water would be a little warm though, now I think about it.

BourbonBon · 09/03/2023 19:36

Urgh can’t think of anything more gross than sitting in a bath of someone else’s grease, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria

Nothing wrong with getting in a bath your little one has done a pee in
i tell myself it’s preferable to the cost of running a fresh one these days 😆

Xrays · 09/03/2023 19:37

Nope would rather have a wash in the sink with fresh water if money was that tight we couldn’t afford to run a fresh bath (if that’s the issue). I would feel disgusting sharing bath water with anyone.

When we top it up it’s hot. The children only have a shallow bath, we have a big tub bath/freestanding (can’t think of the name but it’s bigger than average) and our hot water is v HOT so it balances it nicely.

I get first bath then ds (age 14) gets in after me.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 09/03/2023 19:39

As one of 4 siblings, 2 boys and 2 girls we used to share a bath and the girls would get in then the boys. Then the following week the boys would go first.

I haven't shared bath water since being about age 8.

My DH is tight as a ducks arse but we are affluent enough to indulge in fresh water should we chose to prioritise it. I’d say this is a consideration (definitely a motivator for DH) but it’s not like the fresh water would really impact our lifestyle.

No as I now live alone but I used to do this when DC were little, in fact once they were old enough not to wee in it (3-4 I guess) we often had a bath together, big deep corner bath with steps.

TheWitchersWife · 09/03/2023 19:40

DH loves his baths basically boiling. He'll have it first and I'll follow. It's still sometimes too hot for me when he's done.
But, he does exercise daily and will already have had a quick shower after his work out. The bath is more for enjoyment and aching muscles for him.

WestendVBroadway · 09/03/2023 19:40

Yep, I hop in after hubbie, mind you he has the water so bloody hot I am sure any germs are bolied to death.

timeforchampagne · 09/03/2023 19:41

How long are people spending in the bath?
would it not be easier to shower?

PaulRuddDoesntAge · 09/03/2023 19:42

Young kids sharing bath water is fine.
There is no way I would bathe in someone else’s bath water. Gross.

notsurewherenotsurewhy · 09/03/2023 19:42

My DC are 5 and 10. We share bath water in some order or other when we can. I prefer it when I get first bath, and if there were no other factors to consider I guess I'd enjoy the feeling of a fresh drawn bath every time, but financially and environmentally it's a compromise I'm happy to make.

I remember getting in my mum's bath after her feeling like a real treat when I was a child - so deep and warm! DC2 feels similarly about mine, DC1 isn't bothered either way really.

Do you not share a bed with your partner, or get intimate with them? Transference of germs a plenty there.

Vloader23 · 09/03/2023 19:42

The whole point of a bath is to wash the dirt and grease off you. Why would you want to stew in someone else's?

The 1 year old is a bit young to shower and him and my DS3 share. Sometimes I’ll shower after instead. This isn’t a daily routine as more often than not DH isn’t around for bathtime so I shower when the kids are settled in bed. But we do when it’s convenient.

No judging here OP whatever floats your boat but that is my idea of hell.

Bath is to clean oneself. Why would I clean myself in my OH’s body water. Oh Christ I can feel myself hitting the boak.

KillingLoneliness · 09/03/2023 19:44

I’d bath WITH my hubby if we had a big enough tub but I wouldn’t bath after anyone else had already been it!

Yes DS3 loves getting in after me as I have it much deeper!
