Do you share bath water?

Lighthearted - do you share bathwater?

I tend to run a bath for the kids (1 & 3 so young) then often top it up and get in myself or my DH will. Occasionally me or DH will then get in after each other so the bath water will have bathed the whole family. DH joked with DS3 not to tell anyone as they’d think it was disgusting.

So thought I’d find out if we really are totally grim.

YABU - we don’t share bathwater that’s disgusting, you vermin.
YANBU - we do this too.

Yuk no

bluecanoe2 · 10/03/2023 06:48

Nope, couldn't do it.

Omg my standards are clearly very low. I share a bath with DD2, who always stands up to do a wee in it the second she gets in. I wee in it too 😬. Started when I was pregnant and couldn't be bothered to get in and out the bath for the loo.

I promise we look and smell like clean normal people though! Just had a second DC and baby bath is useless so I hop in with him now too, and just pray he doesn't poo!

This is so gross

LubaLuca · 10/03/2023 06:52

No. I don't think it's disgusting to hop in after someone else, but it's a cost saving too far for me. I'd much rather have a quick shower than a soak in someone else's suds.

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 10/03/2023 06:57

Yep absolutely OP. We do this. You gave birth to your kids so they have been inside your body! You presumably have sex with your husband. Bath water is fine! Also, think of the planet/ polar bears!! 💚🌎

That sounds more like a tannery than a bath. Jesus Christ, you're soaking in a multi-piss cocktail.

Seriously you can't be as clean as you imagine after that. I know it will be very diluted but you wouldn't put a cup of wheelie bin juice in the bath and just hope none of it goes on your skin.

FrozenGhost · 10/03/2023 07:30

I've got extremely low standards, I change bed sheets every month, wear bras for two weeks, wash on cold and have a toilet brush. But even I wouldn't do this.

Robyn847 · 10/03/2023 07:37

Not since the 80s.

However about 4 years ago I did visit a friend in London (about 4-5 hr drive) and when I arrived she said "I've just had a bath so I've left the water in incase you wanted one too after your long drive". 🤢 Bloikk!! There's s different between sharing a bath with your 3 year old brother, and using used bathwater of another adult you don't even live with!! I failed miserably to hide my horror at the suggestion.

I think I love you. Someone equally as scutty as me, but still has standards too. There should be more people like us!!

FUSoftPlay · 10/03/2023 07:50

Enjoying the range of responses. When I first met DH I refused but he has wore me down. I often get in with the kids - when I’m on my own it’s sometimes the only chance I get to bath.

if the water looks grubby I wouldn’t. But my kids bath daily and seen as I wipe their arse still I know they’re relatively clean.

Oh no I can’t have dirty bedsheets! Bras are no longer than 2-3 days.

I might get in a bath after DD has used it (she's 7) and just too it up with some hot water, although this is very rare. After DP? Fuck no, never - disgusting. I won't share a towel with him or a face cloth, why a bath he's washed himself in?

I don't willingly get in to a pool of those juices either, then get out and rub it into my skin with a towel thinking I'm clean..

A tannery 😂😂

Totally agree with you though, unbelievable that people soak themselves in pissy water to get “clean” 🤮

FUSoftPlay · 10/03/2023 09:14

I mean piss makes me slightly less comfortable with it all but it is sterile…

Sharing a bath, not just the bath water, is the best way to get to know a new friend 😆.

OCDmama · 10/03/2023 10:07

I've done heavy dirty work and been to places with very little water before. You find out what 'dirty' actually means, and it is far from the definition of most mumsnetters!

zingally · 10/03/2023 10:17

I grew up doing it, and we used to alternate who went first! I still do it now, on the rare occasion someone has a bath. Nowadays, with the cost, we're doing more showers. I haven't had a bath for months.

Urgh can’t think of anything more gross than sitting in a bath of someone else’s grease, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria

Do suppose you have ever been in a hot tub or jacuzzi then? Not much difference except the water in the hot tub is changed less frequently!

I take it you never go swimming either then?

I mean, chemicals in a pool can only do so much 🤢

Difference is I don’t sit in a hot tub to get clean! I get a shower after swimming/hot tubbing …. I don’t tend to get a shower after a bath!

Wouldn't get in one of those things either.

YABU

No chance I would do that. I would rather have 2 mins shower
