Do you share bath water?

Lighthearted - do you share bathwater?

I tend to run a bath for the kids (1 & 3 so young) then often top it up and get in myself or my DH will. Occasionally me or DH will then get in after each other so the bath water will have bathed the whole family. DH joked with DS3 not to tell anyone as they’d think it was disgusting.

So thought I’d find out if we really are totally grim.

YABU - we don’t share bathwater that’s disgusting, you vermin.
YANBU - we do this too.

Let's just remind of ourselves on MN ick factor

Toilet seat IN the dishwasher = Level 10
Penis beaker = Level 9
Wearing same pyjamas / bra for 2 weeks = Level 8
Washing bedding once a month = Level 7
Sharing bath water = Level 5
Reusing bath towels = Level 4
Leaving washing out on the line at night = 3

Etc etc

I remember the penis beaker 😂😂😂😂

Sharing drinks needs adding. I will not share a sip from my cup. You want some of my cola ok cool now it’s all yours 😅

RainbowBrightside · 09/03/2023 20:03

DH and I used to do this in our old house before we ripped out the bath and put in a shower. I always got the first bath as I like it scalding hot and he likes it lukewarm weirdo 😆😆

doadeer · 09/03/2023 20:04

Wouldn't bother me at all having husband or son's water. I don't see anything about them as disgusting. 🤷‍♀️

Curlygirl06 · 09/03/2023 20:05

When any of my grown up children are here and I'm having a bath, they usually come in for a chat and ask to get in after me. We used to do it when they were little and even now in their 30's they're happy to do so. If the grandchildren are here they do too, no one has died or contracted a hideous disease.

elm26 · 09/03/2023 20:12

I love a long warm bath and make time for this every night as part of self care, in the summer I have it a lot cooler. I'm 29 weeks pregnant and it's the only thing that eases my back and hip pain.

I work an office job so don't get sweaty and I have a wash down every morning, flannel in sink, pits and bits freshened up after sleeping so DH will get in my bath when he plays football 2x per week. He doesn't get muddy as plays on Astro but he'll soak his muscles then shower after.

A couple of times a month we get in together and have a good old chat, bubbles, some candles, it's one of my fave things to do together so I don't think it's gross to be fair.

Once bubs is here I'll definitely bathe with her and so will DH ☺️

Nugg · 09/03/2023 20:14

Yep. I run it hot hot with lots of bubbles. My son (18) gets in after me as he likes it cooler with less bubbles. I'm not dirty- it's a relaxation thing. And saves us a fortune!!

Note- I would NOT get in after him 🤣

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/03/2023 20:15

My DH will say I'll get in your bath after you but I will just run him another.

Cosycover · 09/03/2023 20:15

No one can share my baths because they are about 5000 degrees. I'm a true Targaryen.

neverendinglauaundry · 09/03/2023 20:16

I do, but only if I go in first!

Nottelling15 · 09/03/2023 20:17

I used to get in the ex's bath once she was out ( she was only in there to soak)
There no difference doing that than having a bath with them

GiltEdges · 09/03/2023 20:23

Nope, would never share water. But for environmental reasons I prefer to shower anyway.

TomatoSandwiches · 09/03/2023 20:27

Only with the young children, not with anyone going through or finished with puberty, sorry, sounds grim to me.

Bobbybobbins · 09/03/2023 20:33

Yes sometimes all four of us get in with hot water top ups! (Me, DH, DSx2) Not all at the same time obvs. But then I am sure many of my habits would be seen as below par for MN hygiene standards!!

Do you mean not my Dh? As in you would with your Dh?

My first boyfriend (late teens) used to get in the bath after his mum. I thought it weird then, and haven't changed my view.

weird how? 🤔 oh well I guess we’re all different.

AllOfThemWitches · 09/03/2023 20:39

In an ideal world I'd get in the bath WITH my partner but the reality of that never lived up to the fantasy. Same goes for showering together.

Womblemumma · 09/03/2023 20:43

There is more wee , dead skin and bacteria in a swimming pool - and I bet everyone on here uses them!

60smusic · 09/03/2023 20:44

For very young kids, yes I don't see a problem but not with grown kids or adults. Sitting in someone's pubes and dead skin cells and whatever scummy shit comes off your body. 🤮🤮

Jolie12345 · 09/03/2023 20:45

I can only assume those people who “can’t g think of anything more disgusting” have never been in a swimming pool. What absolute wet wipes

TomatoSandwiches · 09/03/2023 20:49

FUSoftPlay · 09/03/2023 20:34

No I wouldn't have a bath with my DH nor your DH 😁 or any adult.
My husband actually would love to, he booked a honeymoon suit with a double bath but I ruined it with my squeamish disposition, he should have known really!

ihavenamechangedagain · 09/03/2023 20:51

Would never ever share bath water unless we were in the bath together Wink

I do, but not to get myself clean.

I just wouldn’t feel clean if I did this. Although, I really don’t like baths anyway and haven’t had one in over 10 years.

footstoop · 09/03/2023 20:52

I don't get the angst about it tbh as I use swimming pools.

Cornelious2011 · 09/03/2023 20:53

I don't really like baths but if occasionally share one with dd, then dh would sometimes get in after. We shower everyday so bathing is about the experience / relaxation not cleaning.
