Do you share bath water?

Lighthearted - do you share bathwater?

I tend to run a bath for the kids (1 & 3 so young) then often top it up and get in myself or my DH will. Occasionally me or DH will then get in after each other so the bath water will have bathed the whole family. DH joked with DS3 not to tell anyone as they’d think it was disgusting.

So thought I’d find out if we really are totally grim.

YABU - we don’t share bathwater that’s disgusting, you vermin.
YANBU - we do this too.

No judging here OP whatever floats your boat but that is my idea of hell.

Bath is to clean oneself. Why would I clean myself in my OH’s body water. Oh Christ I can feel myself hitting the boak.

That’s made me smile. The bath is big enough that DH and I bath together. We just have a chat.

We sometimes do IF we have had a shower that day. DH and I are sometimes very achy as I have MS and he has arthritis. I get in first while it's HOT but only for 10 mins, then he gets in for longer.

It makes all the difference to my aches and mobility.

But like I say, we ONLY do it if we had recently had a shower

E.g a shower after a 5km run at 5pm
Hot bath at 7pm

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2023 19:46

I don’t think it’s gross, but it’s more of a hot soak experience than a washing experience, I would say, unless you shower after.

Level7wannabee · 09/03/2023 19:47

We don't use a bath for cleaning ourselves. We use it for soaking.

ItsCalledAConversation · 09/03/2023 19:47

My DH often runs a hot bath, sits in it for 10 mins and then showers off to wash. So I’ll jump into his clean bath water yes.

Reminds me what grandmas used to say about handsome chaps, “ooh, I could drink his bath water” meant roughly the same as “I could ride that one into next week”

Do you not share a bed with your partner, or get intimate with them? Transference of germs a plenty there.

Yes but then I shower afterwards. Id need to get a shower to wash the mucky bath water off me

AftersomeAdvice234 · 09/03/2023 19:48

Icky

BoredBetsy · 09/03/2023 19:48

"Do you not share a bed with your partner, or get intimate with them? Transference of germs a plenty there."

Most people shower every morning.
Sitting in someone else's bath water is just disgusting.

OhmygodDont · 09/03/2023 19:49

The only bath water sharing in this house is when the children used to actually bath together. In fact these days only the 6yr old baths the rest of us shower rather than stewing.

Barleysugar86 · 09/03/2023 19:49

The toddler often comes in at the end of my bath, or I'll stick my 5 year old in my bath water at the end for a quick wash.

I have my baths hot and deep so by the time I'm done its a good temperature for the kids.

I get first bath then ds (age 14) gets in after me.

My first boyfriend (late teens) used to get in the bath after his mum. I thought it weird then, and haven't changed my view.

woodhill · 09/03/2023 19:50

If dh has a bath I get in afterwards but tbh we haven't bothered as late

Can't think why notConfused

woodhill · 09/03/2023 19:51

Yes DHs is boiling

Stellaris22 · 09/03/2023 19:52

I find it amusing how disgusted people are by their OH bodies.

purplediscolove · 09/03/2023 19:53

I remember as a child sharing my Bath water and I don’t do it now. I do however get in the bath with my 15 month old more for bonding and then as soon as she’s gone to bed I shower or have a bath of my own.

her dad will share with her older brother( not my son) but tends to cool it down as he has the bath first ( not an every single bath thing).

i don’t do it because we don’t have baths and showers at the same time or want them or need them. I have them in the day while my partner is at work and he has them when he comes in and it’s never a bath for him anyway.

Same here, my teenager takes too long so I go in first 😁

Ragwort · 09/03/2023 19:55

Yes ... but I always have first bath.

Sharing bath water seems a lot less 'icky' than sharing bodily fluid is during sex.

scrivette · 09/03/2023 19:55

When DH runs a bath I usually go in first quickly as I like it really hot and he likes it a bit cooler.

Really can't see the issue, we are not filthy dirty or covered in mud.

OneTC · 09/03/2023 19:55

Yeah we share water. Always kinda bemused to see how revolting some people find themselves and their loved ones.

OH gets up first, runs a deep bath, gets out, I let half of it go and top it up with hot water.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 09/03/2023 19:56

Stellaris22 · 09/03/2023 19:31

On the rare occasion I have a bath DH has it after me, but we don't view each other's bodies as disgusting.

🙄

Hankunamatata · 09/03/2023 19:56

Dh and kids happily share. I'm a bit of a snob and won't share so I bath first and dh jumps in after lol

escapingthecity · 09/03/2023 19:57

Yep, running a stream of hot water into the kids bath water after they've gone to bed makes it about the right temperature. I then always offer it to DH, though he doesn't like baths so usually says no.

AllOfThemWitches · 09/03/2023 19:58

Yup, all the time!

Level7wannabee · 09/03/2023 20:00

Let's just remind of ourselves on MN ick factor

Toilet seat IN the dishwasher = Level 10
Penis beaker = Level 9
Wearing same pyjamas / bra for 2 weeks = Level 8
Washing bedding once a month = Level 7
Sharing bath water = Level 5
Reusing bath towels = Level 4
Leaving washing out on the line at night = 3

Etc etc

Lcb123 · 09/03/2023 20:01

Yes we do sometimes (me and DH) to save water and gas. Likely we will have showered that morning so hardly gross
