… I’ve told my partner where to stick it, explained to my 4 year old what mummy’s boundaries are, & stormed off out to a wine bar that is handily around the corner from my house. And I am VERY pleased with my decision. Can’t recommend this enough to be honest.

I’m not going to say think positively, patronising and clearly irritating,what I am going to state is some research I heard about years ago. Studies found that it was cancer sufferers that carried on as normal, who had the greatest survival rates, moreso than even the positive thinkers. So with that in mind, I suggest you react to manchild petulant behaviour as you’ve done today, tell him to do one, go have a lovely drink and food, make plans for a lovely day with your child and make that your new “ normal.” Whatever time you have left, you enjoy it, you deserve it.x

@LittleBrownJug My heart with yours. I lost my mother to cancer, and my wonderful father kept telling her, "You do exactly what you want to do. If not now, when?" I shall hope that your DH has a similar change of heart. Hugging you across the miles.

I’m so sorry about the cancer, that’s bloody horrible to deal with, especially with a useless unsupportive frigging man involved.

To those who held aloft their pearls early on, even without cancer the OP was thoroughly correct to have a big go at her husband. How do you demonstrate to a daughter what boundaries are? I grew up watching a mum who didn’t take any shit and consequently don’t take any shit either. My husband generally isn’t a dick, but I know plenty of silently seething women whose partners are massive dicks.
