Bananas and custard!

DP and I fancied some for tea tonight. (Relatively new relationship so our first time of making this delicacy.)
I put the cut up banana in the saucepan along with the custard so that the banana can cook.
DP looks horrified. He's only ever poured the hot custard over the cold cut up banana in the bowl.
So who is being unreasonable?

Definitely cold bananas! Or if I’m feeling fancy I will caramelise bananas but I wouldn’t stew them in the custard. Team DP, sorry!

Stanelyjones · 08/03/2023 18:35

Both, bananas are rotten!

Ginbea · 08/03/2023 18:35

I’m with your DH - Sorry!

Whammyyammy · 08/03/2023 18:35

TruJay · 08/03/2023 18:38

I’ve never tried this or heard of it as a thing tbh but when I read bananas and custard, the first thing that came into my head was oh it must be cut up banana (cold) with hot custard poured over.

Aftjbtibg · 08/03/2023 18:38

Never occurred to me to do it your way but I think I prefer it

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 08/03/2023 18:38

Sorry but you’re so in the wrong. My 70s pudding of choice. You don’t boil the bananas woman!!!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 08/03/2023 18:40

Team DP.

User1438489 · 08/03/2023 18:41

YabVu, cooked banana? Absolutely disgraceful.

fuzzbearpenguin · 08/03/2023 18:42

OP you are insane! Cook the bananas?!! Bonkers! Team DP!

LovedmyRaleighChopper · 08/03/2023 18:42

YABVU
hot custard over cut up bananas. They’re not stored in the fridge so won’t actually be “cold”. Hot bananas go kind of mushy, ew 🤢

OnaBegonia · 08/03/2023 18:42

Cooked bananas?? Have a word with yourself!!

PleaseStopSayingHuBbY · 08/03/2023 18:43

Have you tried a banana fritter from a Chinese restaurant? Banana deep fried in batter, it’s delicious.

But sorry OP you’re wrong - should be cold bananas and hot custard.

CatNamedEaster · 08/03/2023 18:44

My automatic thought was how we had it as kids: cold with hot custard. But cooked in the custard sounds delicious.
So not sure who is unreasonable after that.

UndertheCedartree · 08/03/2023 18:44

My mum used to put a little jam at the bottom of each dessert bowl then custard was poured over cut up banana. It went in the fridge to chill and then was topped with dessicated coconut. I've never made it myself but think I need to introduce my children to this so they know how to do it right, incase any future partners may try to cook the banana! 😲

JelloFishy · 08/03/2023 18:44

He should leave you immediately!! (Only joking).

He is right though! The thought of slimy mushy bananas makes me shudder!

Poppyblush · 08/03/2023 18:44

You psycho! Cold bananas!!!

Snozzlemaid · 08/03/2023 18:46

Cold banana and cold custard here.

Carton of custard stored in the fridge poured straight over a sliced banana.
