Bananas and custard!

DP and I fancied some for tea tonight. (Relatively new relationship so our first time of making this delicacy.)
I put the cut up banana in the saucepan along with the custard so that the banana can cook.
DP looks horrified. He's only ever poured the hot custard over the cold cut up banana in the bowl.
So who is being unreasonable?

Team DP. It's the temperature juxtaposition that's so lovely.

Your partner is the sane one in the relationship 🤷‍♀️. You are just odd 🤣

ApocalypseNowt · 08/03/2023 21:13

Shodan · 08/03/2023 21:19

Bloody hell that sounds amaaaazing. I need to make that at the weekend.

Like a little narna trifle

BasiliskStare · 08/03/2023 21:51

Cold Banana all the live day long with custard - barbecue banana - entirely a different thing. When I was very little Granny used to make cold banana with hot custard if she made it or cold out of a tin - liked both but this is 50 years ago. Haven't had it since then

But maybe this sensible discussion you and DP had about the merits of each is a good portent for your future together . Communication is a good thing in a relationship @Macaroni46 😁

DilemmaDelilah · 08/03/2023 22:04

COLD banana and COLD custard. Anything else is rank.

Bimblybomeyelash · 08/03/2023 22:14

Cold bananas. And preferably ones that are only just ripe. Anything remotely mushy or brown has to end up as banana bread. Which is also nice with custard.

BasiliskStare · 08/03/2023 22:28

@Bimblybomeyelash I agree with no brown bits. I had a relative who used to try and tell me cowboys eat the brown bits and so should you. Not convinced then , not convinced now . Pure white / pale yellow all the way for me.

JudgeRudy · 08/03/2023 22:34

East Midlands here. I have never in my life seen or even heard of anyone 'cooking' the bananas. They're hardly cold anyway, they're room temperature. No I've only ever added them afterwards. This also allows for a bit of individuality. I like a high banana to custard ratio but I add a dash of milk to 'my' bit of custard left at the end because I like it runny/thin

I’ve never tried this or heard of it as a thing tbh but when I read bananas and custard, the first thing that came into my head was oh it must be cut up banana (cold) with hot custard poured over.

This is exactly right.

OnaBegonia · 09/03/2023 23:26

@BellaJuno
Yes,but we are talking bananas and custard here not fritters.
