AIBU?

To kick her chair during the inflight meal

in short, red eye flight from America. The woman in front reclines her chair as soon as humanly possibly. No issue with that.

the inflight meal comes about 45mins in. She is the ONLY person in the cabin who keeps her seat reclined, bearing in mind she is sat bolt upright to eat.

I don’t believe it’s within my rights to ask her to (do the decent thing and) put her chair up so I can eat in comfort without her chair pressing against my forehead. Instead I did the petty thing and kicked her chair throughout I’m the inflight meal, so she had a taste of the discomfort that I have.

AIBU? 😂

OP she was being inconsiderate. So what you went passive aggressive. I'm sure everyone else putting their seat upright or the fact that she had to sit upright away from her chair, would have reminded her that she should put hers up but she didn't. She was the rude one.

OP I don’t think what you did is any more irrational or petty than many of the responding posts on this thread. You should have yelled “Bon Nuit” at her, on top of it.

The woman possibly did not know she was impacting you by reclining her seat.
My mother would have been this woman- totally unaware of seeing things from another person's perspective.
You are assuming this person has a degree of social awareness and how their actions impact others. Some people do not.
You should have spoken to the flight attendant.

She was sat bolt upright, but the chair back you were kicking was reclined? What discomfort were you causing her (that you weren't also causing everyone else in her row)?

Just press the call button and the steward would have come and asked her for you, instead of you pointlessly kicking a seat which wouldn't have affected her any more than the person sat next to her.

I can't believe 42% think this isn't unreasonable.

You behaved like a child. Have a stutter is not an excuse for aggressively kicking someone's chair.

More quality than your demented posts.

Bloody hell, would you speak so rudely to strangers face to face?
No need to be nasty.

OP it’s not that far off an even split on the vote, yet everyone is really bashing you on the posts. Weird. I voted YANBU.

P.S you’ve made me laugh OP; I think you’re funny and you’ve handled these nasty responses well.

Don’t worry about it, the irony that I’m being called passive aggressive isn’t lost on me. Sadly the effect of stuttering is usually lost on people who aren’t affected by it.

You were passive aggressive though.

You were communicating in an extremely aggressive manner without actually explaining to the person why you were doing it or what you wanted, because 'they should have known'. Maybe they didn't know. Maybe they have a learning disability for all you know.

You could have communicated more politely and you didn't. You were rude and ridiculous.

I ask nicely first. Then if the person won't do the right thing, I will grab the back of their seat everytime I get up. Manners are manners after all 😂

Oh god seat recliners!

  1. she shouldn’t have had to be told to put her seat up, decency and common sense should have prevailed - therefore she deserved to be kicked into next week

  2. you should have pointed out the obvious to her since she was too thick to realise herself

Sheesh. I thought the OP was quite funny, and imagined a thread full of others sharing their own petty revenges against anti-social miscreants. Would have been a better read than a pile-on of wagging fingers from the sleepless and po-faced.

Nah you’re thinking of 2013 mumsnet … 2023 mumsnet is strictly no fun, no lightheartedness and definitely no laughter. Now do the right thing and grab your pitchfork … also try to think of a mental health condition to diagnose OP with … 😂

I have had this before, flight back from US, very intoxicated ignorant man sitting in front, I waited till he went to the loo, put his seat up. I don’t think he even noticed 😂 he didn’t recline it again.

I love this thread - OP, kicking Sally’s chair is neither here nor there but I love the way you have remained unbowed in the face of po-faced sanctimony on this thread

This.

Oh, and thanks @CanStopWillStop , your responses to all of the "po-faced sanctimony" on this thread has really made me giggle. The fact that so many Mumsnetters have completely missed the humour in this thread, is almost unbelievable - but then I suppose that I am slowly getting used to the peculiarities of Mumsnetters! However, I will beat them, as I have no intention of joining them...

Ooh, maybe I could get some "cookies" too, then you and I, CanStop, could make a tasty cheesecake, with an extra special biscuit base
🍪🧀🍰😋😜🫢🧡

The cabin crew should ask people to raise their seats when meals are being served - perhaps refuse the meal until the seat is upright.

Why do people get so annoyed about people reclining their seat the minute they’re allowed to, that’s the whole point of the recliner to recline. I do put my seat upright when meal arrives until everything is collected by the cabin crew and I would have no issue with asking the person in front if they wouldn’t mind putting their seat forward. I am however petty as f* and if someone kicked the seat rather than asking I wouldn’t put it forward I’d inch forward so the kicking didn’t affect me in anyway then once I was finished bounced back smacking my seat against your forehead

"Use your words" to someone who has now repeatedly stated she has a speech impediment seems like a poor choice of words.

Quite.

I very much doubt cabin crew will care if one passenger goes on hunger strike 😂

@Booksandwine80 Well, I take the "huns" as being part of @CanStopWillStop's humour. I think that she has played most of you brilliantly, and the best bit is that most of you still haven't twigged that you are being played 😁

She was in the wrong for her selfishness. I don’t care that you kicked her seat.

But this thread is making me cringe. You are not as funny or interesting as you think you are. I wonder if you go round telling people, ‘I’m so krazy!!!’

The point is that the person in the reclined seat doesn't get fed unless they sit up. Won't work if they are not hungry, of course, but will if they want their meal.
