AIBU?

To kick her chair during the inflight meal

in short, red eye flight from America. The woman in front reclines her chair as soon as humanly possibly. No issue with that.

the inflight meal comes about 45mins in. She is the ONLY person in the cabin who keeps her seat reclined, bearing in mind she is sat bolt upright to eat.

I don’t believe it’s within my rights to ask her to (do the decent thing and) put her chair up so I can eat in comfort without her chair pressing against my forehead. Instead I did the petty thing and kicked her chair throughout I’m the inflight meal, so she had a taste of the discomfort that I have.

AIBU? 😂

Am I being unreasonable?

The reason you are being condemned is because your actions were childish and your responses on here are so weird. You don’t appear to care so why did you post? Especially as you said you expected these responses? Makes no sense at all

BECAUSE I CAN 🤡 why are you here omg lol (I know the answer, don’t worry)

@CanStopWillStop You say you didn't want to ask her to unrecline it because of your speech impediment, but what if your kicking caused her to turn around and start a verbal confrontation? (A lot of people would do this). Surely that's fat more awkward than gesturing to her seat?

Jewelanemone · 07/03/2023 02:35

Is there a full moon tonight? So much batshittery.

Then stop complaining about people pointing out you behaved like and are continuing to behave like a douche? Also the clown face emoji only proves you are indeed a clown. Bon nuit!

oh look, someone asking a genuine question instead of frothing at the mouth for a group flogging. How refreshing! Okay before I jump off, this was my logic: if someone was kicking my chair, before turning around to shout at them, I would consider how/why this might be happening ie is it a child (according to some of you, YES hahaa) is it a disabled person, AM I IN THEIR SPACE? etc. and then I would move myself away from the situation where possible. In the unlikely event that recliner sally felt enough was enough, turned around to have a go whilst I was eating a rather yummy pasta bake, I would have asked her to move her chair forward to allow more space if she didn’t want to be kicked. Responding to confrontation is far easier than instigating it imo, as demonstrated perfectly in the microcosm of MN.

You could have buzzed for the steward.
Pointed at the obviously reclined chair in front of you.

No words needed.

dont let facts get in the way of your narrative. I haven’t once complained that anyone thinks I was in the wrong – I literally said in post numero uno it was petty behaviour fml lol. Unreasonable? Possibly. Gains outweigh the means? Jury’s out.

you’re a clown because you berate others for the same thing you’re guilty of. You ask why am I here sharing this pointless story (because I can), but yet you keep coming back time and time again to share your opinions on “deranged posts” (because you can) even though there’s really no need for you to speak to me, YET HERE YOU ARE ONCE AGAIN! Makes no sense babe… have a nice sleep though 🫶

Apologies, I don’t think I mentioned this explicitly but the FAs did the meal service while Sally’s chair was reclined – she reclined as soon as possible and kept it there for the duration of the flight.

nobody said anything, not I, not them, not Sally. It was actually a very peaceful flight 😂

Still no reason for you not to tell them, by whatever means, that the chair need to be upright.

okay this really is my last response, it’s really not that deep.

Sally encroached on my space during the meal service, Sally got her chair kicked as a result. Tit for tat rudeness. childish behaviour – but I implore you to search within your soul and tell me you haven’t done worse things than kick somebody’s chair. I’m just “deranged” enough to admit it on a public forum.

I shared this riveting tale on MN and I was told repeatedly that I’m mentally ill and that I’m not to share stories of literal violence.

Aside from the MH slurs, I found this really quite entertaining, and I pray there is someone else who reads this thread who isn’t a complete bore and can find at least some humour in the hypocrisy of it all.

Some of you seem to think I’m here to prove my innocence or that I’m right, because you’re so desperate for a pile on that you can’t see that there really isn’t anything to jump on. Just vote BU and carry on babes, I certainly have and hope Sally did too lol.

And seriously, the people commenting about my speech impediment, you’re the reason I didn’t want to say anything about it, because your “solutions” are irrelevant if you haven’t lived it. “If I were you” doesn’t work in this instance because you really don’t know what it’s like to want to say something and physically not be able to do it.

anyway – it HAS been a laugh, for me at least. Full debrief in the daily mail tomorrow huns 😘

It's fucking crap OP. What an arse she was. Irritation makes you do irrational things sometimes. (I'm now irritated by all the should 'of' I've just read on this thread, so I 'of' to bugger off before I get my arse handed to me on a plate.)

AllWorkYoPlait · 07/03/2023 03:41

You're very aggressive Confused

Usually cabin crew remind people to sit up. If they didn't you could've pointed to her chair while they gave you your meal. Or, you could've typed a short sentence on your phone and shown cabin crew or lady in front.

I would expect you to handle it in the same way you handle all other instances where you have to communicate with people.

No feeling, short of mental illness, makes you do anything.

StoppinBy · 07/03/2023 03:53

I'm not sure who is in the wrong but you sure did make me laugh.

It’s possible that Sally reclined her dear but then couldn’t figure out how to put it back up? i don’t understand why she’s est in that uncomfortable position

EmmetEmma · 07/03/2023 04:38

I love this thread - OP, kicking Sally’s chair is neither here nor there but I love the way you have remained unbowed in the face of po-faced sanctimony on this thread

amylou8 · 07/03/2023 04:43

YANBU. I'd actually wait until she was asleep, then give the chair back a good old shake as hauled myself up to use the toilet, and boy do I have a weak bladder.

HarlanPepper · 07/03/2023 05:28

bert3400 · 07/03/2023 00:53

No you're passive aggressive, you should of spoken up if you were that bothered, which you obviously are.

Repeatedly kicking a chair is not passive aggressive, it's just aggressive.

SemperIdem · 07/03/2023 05:48

I’d have told her to adjust her chair and then kicked it.

EdgeOfACoin · 07/03/2023 05:51

Bizarre, bizarre thread.

In this situation, a mature person has two options:

a) ask the person in front to return the chair to an upright position

b) ask the flight attendant to resolve the issue

Was she unreasonable to recline the seat? Of course.

Were you unreasonable to kick the seat rather than address the issue in a mature manner? Yes.

Switchwitch · 07/03/2023 05:54

You're better than me..I'd have kicked and then stood up loudly declaring whilst holding a glass of drink (hopefully sticky fizzy cola) and 'accidentally' poured it over the back of her seat (and possibly hair). Oops..if only I had more room!

Obviously this is what occurs in my head but I'm too annoyingly British to do it so it might end up in a mild tut on the way out of the plane.

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/03/2023 05:58

Meh, I'd have dropped crumbs all down the back of her seat too so that she was uncomfy and ideally had bits of food stuck to her hair and back later on.

I am cool and calm... until I am not.

As the extremely loud Rude Man sat behind me at a competitive event (1) found out when for the third time, he roared loudly and very aggressively in appreciation for his 'team' whilst leaning forward, face an inch from my ear, causing our whole bank (2) of seating to flinch in unison and make Cross Polite People Faces... I turned around and roared back, totally unplanned 'WILL YOU STOP THAT NOW, IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE!'

Watching the tv footage of said event back you can actually hear him doing it, he was SO loud (and there are no mics in the audience seating and it is set up so you CAN'T hear crowd noise on the tv feeds)... and then theres an abruptly abbreviated roar and he doesn't do it again... giggle

Sometimes, there's only so far you can push people!

(1) event typically involves polite clapping, at loudest.
(2) press seating NOT supporter seating.

StarlightLady · 07/03/2023 06:06

She has been rude and inconsiderate. The problem is with these sort of people, kicking a chair can make something else kick off. For the same reason, cabin crew are often reluctant to intervene.

Personally, l would love to see an announcement made at times of service and a statement on tickets/boarding passes saying that it is a condition of travel that seats are in an upright position for meals.

Holly60 · 07/03/2023 06:08

Are you quite ok OP? The thing is you lost any kind of moral high ground when you started acting like a baby.

You don't go around kicking people's chairs. She was unreasonable, but so were you.

It is neither of your finest hours.
