No agenda I’m just interested as Kier is on LBC this morning…

For me it’s the TWAW magical thinking, and not being convinced they would prioritise average earners, which I want to happen.

If you think the LP is remotely left wing you are a bit deluded. That’s why Starmer receives so much vitriol on SM. He’s a red Tory apparently. Or a blue Labourite.
The name calling goes both ways.
What right wing voters don’t like is being challenged on their party’s record. That’s out of bounds.

Xenia · 08/03/2023 11:59

The Tories were elected last time because they were Big State high spending hig tax tories, sadly. People like I am - wanting a small state and low taxes and more freedoms aer choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea with the Tories only marginally better than labour on these points.

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2023 11:59

Like I said I’ll answer posts if made in good faith. Or not insulting.

Otherwise sod that talk to someone else. I’m sure there are other people to harass for however they vote. I’m not interested.

Hobbi · 08/03/2023 12:00

@Icandothattoo

It's because you don't know the rules 😉. We can absolutely blame the pandemic, but definitely not Brexit; and we can blame the press, except when they are publishing hateful stories about refugees, other minorities or benefit claimants.

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2023 12:04

Hobbi · 08/03/2023 11:57

@MarshaBradyo
CCHQ and bot are not synonymous. Unless you have particular insight in this matter. You seem to think being called a Tory is an insult, which is all I did. I literally repeated my assertion that the main reason that folk don't vote Labour is that they're Conservatives. That's not an insult, unless you're ashamed of your political allegiance.

Just to check though if someone votes for a party, say a few times but not every GE, is your conclusion they work for their HQ?

Think you might have a problem there. Of course it’s an insult, it’s used often on here from the left for a reason.

You could apologise or carry on up to you.

KnittedCardi · 08/03/2023 11:53

My observation on MN is, unfortunately, that those on the left are far more rude and obnoxious, than those on the right. It's what turns off those who are small c, conservative, voting for the left.

I’m forced to agree. I consider myself very central; with the odd belief/idea taken from both ends of the spectrum. I suppose my position is closest to the early days of New Labour.

But my God, the left have exposed themselves as the least tolerant, most racist/sexist and witch hunty people over the last few years.

They’re completely hysterical and impossible to have any kind of calm discussion with. Any disagreement, or even questioning, makes you very right wing. The tiniest suggestion of personal responsibility and not blaming everything on ‘the government’ means you ‘want children to starve and persecute people into poverty’.

Had the left been more measured and less accusatory over the last 5 years they would be in a lot stronger position than they are now.

Completely disagree. Most people are unable to accurately assess or accept their own bias and so dismiss things they say as inoffensive while taking great offence should the other side say anything they dislike, and this is particularly apparent with those to the right.

The recent immigration thread was a great example. Posters were happy to make all sorts of derogatory comments without asylum seekers and migrants but went into meltdown anytime someone called them out on it.

Even this thread is filled with examples, take a well known poster (I won't say their name) taking such great offense to a supposed insult that they've announced they'll no longer engage with the thread. Yet they were perfectly happy to go on about the "sneering left", how idiotic labour and their voters are, and accuse everyone who disagrees with them as having some sort of disingenuous
left wing motive.

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2023 12:46

Lol it’s pretty obvious who you’re talking about 😬

So I won’t engage any longer with sneers from the left. So what? It’s hardly the end of the world.

Elphame · 08/03/2023 12:49

If you want a taste of life under Labour then just look at Wales.

The NHS is in far worse condition that England, schools are on their knees with popular ideology being taught, industry is being driven away by the uncertainty and tourists (which are vital to the economy) are to be taxed.

No new road building but buses being axed due to lack of funding and currently a shortage of trains.

The Senedd is barely answerable to the electorate and if you aren't in the Labour heartlands of the South then tough.

This is my experience.

Or perhaps I am biased in my observation. Perhaps when I fitted neatly on the left I simply assumed I was among tolerant people. And after my ex-communication for failing to fall in line on gender bollocks, I can more clearly see the tactic of mislabeling all those who disagree as 'the very worst thing' with no space for discussion or nuance?

No, I acknowledge hypocrisy is a thing on both sides but as a centrist, it really is much worse on the left. They have a way of waiting to pounce on any perceived or imaginary indication that you’re ‘secretly right wing’, because they don’t believe that you can be broadly on the left but not hard left on every issue. It’s either hard left, or very right wing.

I don’t see this as much on the right, in fact I can’t remember the last time somebody posted in ‘slight‘ disagreement but got accused of being a ‘closet lefty’ or similar.

This is where the right have succeeded, they’ve stuck together whereas the left are always foaming at the mouth to turn on one of their own. Usually women or non whites (JK Rowling anybody?).

It has put me off. I know they can’t see it but it’s evident in a thread that has been unusually respectful, because the majority is different.

Of course online is just one part of it, although it’s evident in offline too.

In fact, can anyone else think of somebody who has become a persona non grata among their fellow right wingers for mooting one opinion that’s slightly left of what they would normally believe? 🤔 I can’t!

MN needs a bigger spectrum of opinions beyond ‘left wing, otherwise you’re a goady fucker or Jacob Rees Mogg’.

That said as long as they’re like this they’ll lose elections 🤷🏼‍♀️ so…

Xenia, I see you on quite a few threads and respect you as one of the more right wing voices on here that calmly holds your own against the hysteria. I just wanted to acknowledge that as you always get a very hard time but seem to deal with it graciously.

There was a lot of air sucked between the teeth when Rishi opened the cheque book and paid half the nation to stay home during COVID, didn't harm his career though.

How is that different to the rest of the UK?

Schools are on their knees, the economy is crippled by continous uncertainty...

To be fair Scotland and Wales are in a worse state than England.

Well it's obvious now.

But so nothing really, that's your perogative. It's just incredibly hypocritical to be happy to dish out digs and insults but flounce off when you receive the same back.

It also goes against the spirit of discussion when you refuse to answer a question, especially when your own questions was answered previously.

Almost everything puts me off. The worst thing is the risk of a £20k a year tax on my house and even higher income taxes than we have now.

If they proposed much lower tax rates I might be tempted.

If that proposed tax comes in (and taking our current level of income tax into account) our household would be taxed at significantly more than 100% of our income. Not least to add to the all the other major tax hikes they proposed such as the tax on school fees.

Its fucking bonkers.

What's the root cause of all those issues? Austerity imposed on devolved and local governments by Westminster perhaps?

The Senedd may well be poorly administered but it's heavily impacted and influenced by central government policy.

I usually do answer questions if asked in good faith. The immigration thread reached 1000 and I couldn’t respond to yours.

I haven’t said all people behave the same way, if you don’t it doesn’t apply to you. But this site has a theme of attacking non left voters which is a shame. Chances are they’re not completely loyal voters and just want to discuss politics and constant insults (over many other threads) will turn them away more. As other posters have said.

But yes it’s not a dig to say I’ll only respond to reasonable posts. Saves time and I don’t get enough out of engaging with other types. Other posters can do what they want though.
