No agenda I’m just interested as Kier is on LBC this morning…

For me it’s the TWAW magical thinking, and not being convinced they would prioritise average earners, which I want to happen.

It’s not “harking back” to want to feel the joy of seeing the back of a Tory government again.

I'm in Wales over two decades with Labour government running health and education - the services often score lower on most metrics than England.

It's not the 90s - we have huge national debts a rapidly aging and retiring population -and a shrinking tax base - many issues like housing and NHS and social care have been licked down the road by all governments Labour and Conservative and those issue are hitting now.

It will be a fucking struggle for what ever party gets in.

Stamer's shadow cabinet is not a patch talent wise on Blair.

So I do think it's harking back and not accepting the actual situation.

As for it not being enough to be the alternative to the Tories to win, it’s worth remembering the old adage about oppositions not winning elections but governments losing them.

This Tory government is shit and has a huge hill to climb for credibility it shouldn't be even a consideration for a next term - but Labour isn't looking great at the minute and I'm not sure they'll actually get the vote out.

Gloomy I agree with you post and this

is a useful reminder. I’m not seeing 90s joy in Labour led Wales. It concerns me as a general direction if broader.

Your..

Icandothattoo · 08/03/2023 10:52

@MarshaBradyo You seem to be a stalwart defender of the Conservative party on nearly every thread. What's your opinion on how the Conservatives have managed Brexit ? The economy ? NHS ? Immigration ? Rather than little digs at Labour who are not in power, maybe tell us what they have done well. 13 years in power, where are those sunlit uplands outside the south east.

Do you really want my opinion or are you hanging around the thread to insult and make personal digs

Because I cba with that.

I voted remain btw and if you are reading my posts as you seem to be you’ll already have seen my views on it, and other things you mention.

Not true lately. He’s had uptick after Windsor agreement. I doubt he’d go up during strikes but when they stop and other things are resolved, well we’ll see.

I recall predictions of walk outs and his party not getting behind him and they turned out to be incorrect.

No he hasn't and no one predicted they'd be walk outs, over what?

What things is he going to resolve?

NHS?
Immigration?
NI border?

Its all talk, he can't conjure up 50k nurses or the other 100k staff needed, still explanation on where migrants will be deported too & the DUP will never serve under a SF leader, so how will Stormont sit & the deal gets ratified in full?

On strikes, they are being resolved because the Govt has caved in with new money & talks, something they repeatedly said and Tories on here agreed, should never happen.

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2023 10:57

Why do Labour voters come onto threads like these just to insult? They’ve pretty much got the rest of mn to sneer and carry on.

Is it effective I wonder..

Whatever drives it I can’t say I’m interested.

GloomyDarkness · 08/03/2023 11:04

"Stop the Boats" puts me off the Conservatives TBH.

Faster processing, more compassion and more legal routes and keeping anyone with skills would be my preference.

Also the strikes - I get why many are striking but I do think the current UK government could and should have done more but say same about Welsh gov as well.

We've been massively adversely affected with train strikes, bus strikes, NHS strikes have impacted ill family directly as have the stretched resources and while I get it I also get frustrated with them all.

I had concerns about EU but wanted to stay in as it was the better option - but no one talking about going back yet so I want ways forward not finger pointing at past.

This is a remarkably sane and sensible discussion. There’s been no sneering or insulting at all. Disagreement? Of course but it’s been polite and mature.

Icandothattoo · 08/03/2023 11:10

@MarshaBradyo come on, tory voters are the same. Why pretend otherwise ?
Did you ever read the thread about Angela Rayner ?
I asked you to explain what the tory track record was and you are offended. Intrigued.

MarshaBradyo · 08/03/2023 11:12

It’s far more sensible than majority of political threads on mn. Due to actually not just being dominated by the sneering left / Labour.

If people want to do that on other threads fine by me. I appreciate this one for some very good posts.

Yes people that use bots as a response are trying to insult of course they are.

Anyone that asks without sneering I’ll answer but not that post below which belongs on the usual mn political fodder. Sod that.

Everyone else’s it’s been a good read.

GPTec1 · 08/03/2023 11:26

I didn't insult you or anyone else and neither am i a Labour voter, i ve voted Conservative a lot more times than Labour.

One might add that your description of anyone who disagrees with your POV is the right sneering at the non Tory vote, which in 2019, was the majority of the UK.

That’s great. But if not it wasn’t directed at you.

Tbh you often quote my posts and I respond as they make good points even if I disagree, it’s just sneering posts. I really cba on them anymore.

No great loss I’m sure someone else is there to spend time with that kind of thing.

Emotionalstorm · 08/03/2023 11:35

Not my reasoning (I'm a life-long Tory supporter), but my partner told me that he thought that if you are patriotic the only party you can really vote for is the conservative party.

GPTec1 · 08/03/2023 11:43

You do post a lot Marsha, as do i & our views are often different, so its inevitable and tbf, you quote me directly or sections of a post fairly often too, it is what happens on a public forum but as far as i'm aware, they are usually good natured, i try not to wind anyone up.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, there is the scroll function if it bothers you.

OopsAnotherOne · 08/03/2023 11:44

The fact they believe that humans can change sex.

Yes that party that has run down our armed forces to such an extent that the USA and NATO think it can no longer defend the UK, let alone anyone else.

Our infantry is 23k, the lowest for 100s of years & set to be cut to 18k.

We ve 19 frigates.

Icandothattoo · 08/03/2023 11:44

@MarshaBradyo please stop calling folk the sneering left. It’s really lazy name calling and a generalisation.

I said I didn’t mind which is why I respond. I appreciate posts that are reasonable and I think you have good arguments just not always what I agree with.

That’s fine it wasn’t a criticism. The opposite. I’m just too weary with heavy Labour types making this site so dire with insults and constant sneering. I do now largely ignore it. But this thread is a refreshing change.

But it wasn’t directed towards you. Peace out 😀

It..
Bloody hell

No you used CCHQ first. Same difference

And yes it was your post that was insulting and I am referring to.

Xenia · 08/03/2023 11:52

Almost everything puts me off. The worst thing is the risk of a £20k a year tax on my house and even higher income taxes than we have now.

If they proposed much lower tax rates I might be tempted.

KnittedCardi · 08/03/2023 11:53

My observation on MN is, unfortunately, that those on the left are far more rude and obnoxious, than those on the right. It's what turns off those who are small c, conservative, voting for the left.

Yes. And as said this thread is one of the few respectful political ones on here. Because the majority of posters isn’t the usual.

Hobbi · 08/03/2023 11:57

@MarshaBradyo
CCHQ and bot are not synonymous. Unless you have particular insight in this matter. You seem to think being called a Tory is an insult, which is all I did. I literally repeated my assertion that the main reason that folk don't vote Labour is that they're Conservatives. That's not an insult, unless you're ashamed of your political allegiance.
