No agenda I’m just interested as Kier is on LBC this morning…

For me it’s the TWAW magical thinking, and not being convinced they would prioritise average earners, which I want to happen.

I would basically vote for any party that had the balls to go for complete NHS reform. Labour will be the only party that would be allowed to initiate it by the public though.

I've always proudly voted conservative in the past, but if there were an election now I would probably spoil my ballot paper.

Labour will almost certainly win the next election, and after 5 years be voted out again like they usually are, cause people realise it doesn't work. I think it's time for a change though, there needs to be a shake up of some sort.

Whichever Political Party you intend to vote for if you believe that Sex matters as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act and you believe that women should have single sex spaces then please consider signing the petition in this thread.

Let's get a parliamentary debate happening.

Starmer saying to Labour LGBT groups that Labour will “modernise” the GRA. If that means self-ID come out and say it.

Has "modernise" become a new political code for "make sweeping, ill thought-out changes to something but the public will hate it so this sounds better"?

PolkaDotMankini · 06/03/2023 21:51

I haven't read the thread, but I gave up my Labour party membership because of their aggressive "TWAW and GC witches can suck my lady dick" stance during the Corbyn era. The Momentum crazies haven't gone away so I won't vote for them.

No need to take offence; just admit you don't vote Labour because at heart you're a Tory. You don't have to make up specious excuses. The country is in its worst state since the 80s and, unsurprisingly, people are protecting what they see as their financial self-interest.

I was a Labour Party member for over 20 years.

Rather than belittle my opinion maybe you should consider why your position is such a turn off for so many people.

Honestly, pointing "nah, narny, na, na - you're a Tory" is juvenile and completely underscores my point.

ThePoshUns · 06/03/2023 21:56

Nothing now Corbin has gone. I'm a labour voter and will definitely vote for them in the next election.

Meandfour · 06/03/2023 21:57

A few reasons but mainly, Keir.

Thelnebriati · 06/03/2023 22:04

Part of Labours plan to 'update' the Gender Recognition Act will remove the spousal exit clause. I actually can't believe someone who used to be a human rights lawyer can even consider this. It represents a massive change in the meaning of a contract, and will prevent anyone from divorcing a spouse that transitions.
Forced marriage is not something any civilised society should support.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/03/2023 22:08

Because the Corbynistas and Chris Williamson types haven't gone away; they merely lurk, waiting for their next chance

And yes I'm perfectly well aware the Tories also have too many extremists, which is why I wouldn't vote for them either

So like many I'm politically homeless

SidewaysOtter · 06/03/2023 22:08

This mantra of "if you don't agree with us on any issue you're a Tory" and the gratuitous sense of moral superiority is precisely why members of the electorate who "should" be Labour voters are turned off by this type of rhetoric.

I completely agree. The whole “You’re 100% with us or you’re actually a secret evil Tory” is the political equivalent of someone sticking their fingers in their ears so they don’t have to think about why their party isn’t electorally successful.

Shulk · 06/03/2023 22:09

The only thing that would stop me
voting Labour is if tactical voting meant that voting for another party was the best means of keeping the Tories out.

Even if all of the worst predictions re the implementation of Self-ID policies came to pass, the harm resulting therefrom still pales in comparison to the harm inflicted on the country by the Tories.

Do you want to engage with people and get them to open up to your way of thinking, or do you just want to take moralistic pot shots to make yourself feel superior?

If it's the latter, carry right on.

Hobbi · 06/03/2023 22:15

@ReneBumsWombats
I haven't said what 'my way of thinking' is. I've answered the OP's question by saying the obvious reason folk don't vote Labour is because they're Tories. I've also said I understand the conservative mindset but not the doublethink that repeatedly puts them in power with hardly anyone admitting they're a Tory for traditional reasons.

Are the 'extremists' on the labour front benches? Because they are in the Conservative's.

"Rather than belittle my opinion maybe you should consider why your position is such a turn off for so many people."

I didn't belittle your opinion. I said voting for your financial self-interest was understandable. If folk take action (or inaction) that inevitably leads to Tory rule, they're effectively Tories. No one has refuted that specific point.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/03/2023 22:23

Are the 'extremists' on the labour front benches?

Not yet, but I'm confident that they'd be there all too soon after any election victory
After the last GE election disaster the NEC know perfectly well that the party needs a pretence of moderation, but IMO a pretence is all it is

And to say that is to entirely misunderstand, dismiss and belittle the concerns people have about Labour, despite them outlining them extensively on here. Which I'm sure isn't your intention.

You're going to drive people right away from you by effectively claiming they don't have legitimate reasons not to vote Labour. Rhat they must all just be moneyed people looking for wealth accumulation, and there's absolutely no other reason anyone might be giving Labour a wide berth right now.

Like I said, if all you want is a one-dimensional sense of superiority, keep at it because it'll work just fine for that. If you want to draw people back to Labour by addressing their actual concerns, then it's an awful strategy. But you don't want that, or you'd actually listen to what they're saying even if you disagree.

ReneBumsWombats · 06/03/2023 22:25

What, like Labour??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/03/2023 22:30

Wise words, ReneBumsWombats; it's just unfortunate that - even after years of Labour defeats - some have failed to learn that belittling voters' legitimate concerns just doesn't work

Livinginanotherworld · 06/03/2023 22:32

Kier Starmer and TWAW…..I’m a bloody socialist through and through…..he’s wrecked the party.

Livinginanotherworld · 06/03/2023 22:34

…in fact….this is one thread I really hope the media pick up on !

merlotlover · 06/03/2023 22:34

TWAW stuff 🫤

TheNestedIf · 06/03/2023 22:36

TWAW.

Wishy washy support for those currently striking over pay and conditions.

I have always voted Labour, save one tactical Lib-Dem vote back in 1997 when I was living a staunch Conservative area. This time I will be spoiling my ballot paper unless they have a serious think about their stance on women's rights and unless they do something about the misogynists in their party.
