No agenda I’m just interested as Kier is on LBC this morning…

For me it’s the TWAW magical thinking, and not being convinced they would prioritise average earners, which I want to happen.

Emily Thornberry is my MP. I remember that there was a debate on Brexit on R4 (a few years back) and she got a grilling for voting in the opposite way to her constituency. She said “Labour is a National party and I am a National politician”. Marvellous. In that case, she no longer needs the votes of the people in her constituency.

In any case, I can’t see any party other than Labour getting in here. So it doesn’t make a lot of difference either way.

She also never seems to vote against her party leader’s wishes. It doesn’t matter what it is, she’ll vote as she’s told.

SuperGinger · 06/03/2023 18:07

Kier Starmer

Igmum · 06/03/2023 18:11

TWAW, the threats to women's rights, child safeguarding.

I'm a past Labour voter, my aunt and my grandfather were both Labour councillors. I cannot vote for them now. I cannot.

twitterexile · 06/03/2023 18:15

TWAW, anti-semitism, abandonment of safeguarding, women, Momentum, most of their MPS.

On the plus side they have Rosie Duffield but she is not my MP and not enough to make me vote for them.

I am an ex LP member and will struggle to vote for them ever again as they have abandoned and belittled women for too long. Fuck'em.

Hi Owen 👋🏻

😂

babybythesea · 06/03/2023 18:19

All the things that have happened so far to womens rights vs trans rights have happened on the Tory watch. I wouldn’t not vote for labour based on this one issue because whatever they say, the stories are the ones letting it happen.

I won’t vote for Labour purely because in my area they come a very low third behind Lib Dem. So I will vote Lib Dem as my best chance of removing our useless Tory MP from his seat. It won’t work but it’s the best chance I’ve got.

Two reasons I want him gone:

  1. He’s Tory and I detest what they have done to schools in particular - but I fundamentally disagree with a lot of their policies, plus the lies etc.
  2. Hes useless. I’ve written to him several times but only ever had one response and that was clearly a standard letter which didn’t actually address the problem I’d asked. He’d go to the opening of an envelope if asked but I can’t see anything else useful he’s done. Whereas the prospective Lib Dem MP has been door to door talking to people already. There’s not even a vote coming up and he’s already been out asking what matters to me. Give me that guy.
nothingcomestonothing · 06/03/2023 18:20

I will never vote for anyone who pretends not to know what a woman is. Either they are stupid or they are willing to sacrifice women's safety for men's feelings, neither is what I'm looking for in an MP or a political party. No Thank You.

The Tories have woken up and seen what is happening and are trying to put it right. Labour are pushing it even harder.

Forever42 · 06/03/2023 18:22

The last time I voted Labour was in 2001 but I plan to vote for them in the next election. I live in a pretty safe Tory seat but am hoping that discontent with the government might cause an upset and Labour came in second place last time so I'll vote for them although I usually vote Lib Dem.

I'm a teacher and the current government have trashed education. Things weren't perfect under the Labour government but a million times better than they are today.

GinUnicorn · 06/03/2023 18:23

Their refusal to stick up for Rosie Duffield and the raging misogyny that is TWAW

Isn't the women's rights activist Kellie Jane King talking of standing against Starmer in his constituency?🍿

I am SO looking forward to this. Sir Keir will have nowhere to hide...it will be brutal and highly entertaining.

This in a nutshell. Many western countries fell for this but not many are reversing yet, at least Tories are

twitterexile · 06/03/2023 18:24

It's Kellie Jay Keen btw.

GreekDogRescue · 06/03/2023 18:25

I can’t vote for a party that doesn’t know what a woman is.
also they supported the lock down and destruction of the economy. Their only comment was the lockdown wasn’t harsh enough.
starmer would have us living in a police state.

Winniethepoohandtiggertoo · 06/03/2023 18:26

I also don’t like the ‘politics of envy’ line, apart from when it’s envy of people who don’t actually have that much.

You see it all the time on here - that somebody who earns a low wage but is just out of the threshold for any help should be happy to fund somebody who is on benefits that has more disposable cash than they do. Apparently they should be grateful and feel lucky they get to work for 40+ hours a week to end up with less than Sarah down the road who works for 12 hours a week then claims a hefty top up because ‘full time would mean I couldn’t pick my kids up from school’.

It’s those low-but-just-over-the-threshold earners that I want to see prioritised over higher earners or people on benefits.

Lanneederniere · 06/03/2023 18:27

I live in a (currently) safe Tory seat, but would vote for a donkey if it were the leader of an opposition party most likely to win my constituency and/or the next election. I don't like KS, but needs must in the current situation.

Treehappy · 06/03/2023 18:29

Lack of evidence based and lack of logical, critical and honest thinking on women’s rights in relation to gender ideology. Utter craven cowardice of Keir Starmer on this and him throwing Rosie Duffield to the wolves with his ‘ ‘of course she should not have said only women have a cervix’ comment.

I cannot vote for a party led by a coward with a lack of critical thinking skills ( or he’s a coward prepared to lie for political gain, but that’s no better, is it?)

Exasperatednow · 06/03/2023 18:29

ChickenDhansak82 · 06/03/2023 09:36

Their lack of common sense over where money comes from and spending too much for the now and not thinking about future finances of the UK.

I don't trust them to reward those who work really hard for a living. The whole benefits system in this country has long been a joke, and I want to see a government who will support those who work hard.

I dislike the attitude of expecting something for nothing and this needs to be changed. The benefits system was brought in to help those desperately in need and those who received it were grateful for the help. It has now become a lifestyle choice and a way of life which is awful.

And you think the Conservatives have done a good job? When they happily sloshed money around for their mates plus countless other bad decisions. They haven't invested in the right areas which will actively cost the country money. Its idiotic not to invest in education, they haven't invested in health and and health care training , just wasted money on constant reorganising.

Sheesh.

Sockloon · 06/03/2023 18:31

Every time some lefty socialist opens their gob and calls every single person who disagrees with them far right, anti vaxcer , brexiteer, racist, homophobe, you nema it.

No I will never vote labour until they truly represent your average everyday northern voter, not some Islington champagne socialist.

Exasperatednow · 06/03/2023 18:33

And rewarding people who work hard....

They actively subsidise businesses to employ people on a pittance and top up with benefits. The taxpayer payer pays for that top up. I run a business, the Conservatives have done nothing for other than cause uncertainty and chaos. I subsidise other big businesses to pay crap wages through the profits on my business. They are a shit show.

lifeturnsonadime · 06/03/2023 18:34

I haven't read the full thread so don't know if this has already been linked but have all those who are concerned by Labour's approach to women signed the Petition to Update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic “sex” is biological sex?

Offs.

A Conservative mp called someone a Liberal metropolitan elite because they posted a picture of empty food shelves. Do you really think they have your back?

IntentionalError · 06/03/2023 18:36

Nothing. I’m an ex Labour activist, and I will vote for the party at the next election for the first time since 2015. I refused to vote for them while Corbyn was leader because he was demonstrably unfit to be PM and would have been a threat to U.K. National security.
Now, under Starmer, Labour are far from perfect. I would like to hear much more from them about how they propose to repair the damage caused by the disastrous Tory Brexit, more about how they propose to fix the failing, dysfunctional NHS, and hear much less woke / transgender crap. But they are still the best available option after 13 years of the Tories.
