To think if you work with people or children you should not be rude?

Why are some people rude in the work place? It’s annoying me!

I visit schools each week to work with children and often have to go in classes to get specific children. There’s a particular person who is always very abrupt and rude to me. She talks to me like I’m one of her yr 2’s. Talking more slowly, emphasising words as if I’m stupid. She never smiles and acts like I am an annoying inconvenience because I’m interrupting her! She also tries to manage when I should visit- I’m more than flexible by the way and totally get some times are not convenient (eg I avoid core subjects sessions) but it’s yr 2 who are doing painting mainly when I’m there.

I spoke to the Head and it turns out this person is not even in a teacher (I had assumed she was the teacher as she’s always quick to respond when I go into the class) she’s the TA for Gods sake! Head then laughed and said she thinks she’s actually in charge and runs the school and rolled her eyes 😂 and offered to have a word with her. (I realise this is not personal and she likes no one)

so if you don’t like people / children why would you work in this environment? I don’t get it.

Are you being fascetious?

Do you mean facetious if you are being judgy to @Icedlatteplease and spelling? 🤔

Galadali · 02/03/2023 19:52

For somebody who claims to be way "more qualified" than a play therapist you don't seem to understand much about schools and the people who might work in them. I started my working life as a hospital play therapist in the 90s and now work as a counsellor in a specialist education setting. I've Post-grad qualifications coming out of my arsehole (including my gold-plated PGCE) and am still constantly training. You'd still look down on me I expect because I might be on the floor playing with LEGO when you enter the classroom.

No, parents don’t pay for this

They can if the SALT is private

AaaaaandBreathe · 02/03/2023 19:52

Oops the quote I was replying to didn't attach!

CandyLeBonBon · 02/03/2023 19:41

@MichelleScarn I'd hazard a guess that op is not quite sure of the qualifications needed to become a play therapist - hence the derogatory tone!

Did you miss the derogatory tone in the post that first mentioned play therapists?

Yes.

It's my immaturity showing through

No, parents don’t pay for this

But you earlier said Of course - I wrote in a previous post that I’m paid by parents and school facilitates my visits? So do they pay or not?

Liaise has two i’s

It does indeed. But you might want to check a lot of your other spellings.

Actually I think next time it happens I’ll speak to her myself, she’s clearly blissfully unaware she has such an unfortunate manner

Just say,

"Don't patronise me! Now excuse me, I need to speak to the organ grinder. Good day."

(Assuming she's white, of course!)

She is white but on the portly side

I think the OP is saying that Parents don't pay for Salt but they pay for her.

Of course she is wrong, DS had private SALT.

Why is portly relevant?

StopInvolvingMe · 02/03/2023 19:52

Did you miss the derogatory tone in the post that first mentioned play therapists?

The tone was absolutely not derogatory towards Play Therapists a highly educated and skilled profession. Tone was more towards your attitude!

SinnerBoy · 02/03/2023 19:59

StopInvolvingMe · Today 19:56

She is white but on the portly side

Just keep it at "Don't patronise me!"

Don't be tempted to say "Don't patronise me, Porky!"

CandyLeBonBon · 02/03/2023 20:03

"Did you miss the derogatory tone in the post that first mentioned play therapists?"

No, because it wasn't derogatory. Yours was though.

Icedlatteplease · 02/03/2023 18:18

You're there to help a child. You are not better than anyone else who is there to help a child.

Your attitude is appalling

This

ScentOfAMemory · 02/03/2023 20:07

I'm not engaging in banter with you, OP. I'm pointing out the irony of you telling someone they've made one spelling mistake when your own SpaG is nothing short of atrocious.

Seriously - you are going to go down the ‘it’s not me - you lot are just too sensitive’ route, @StopInvolvingMe?

Think logically for a moment, and ask yourself which is more likely - that many of the people who happen to have responded to your thread are all over-sensitive, or that the common denominator is your attitude, as it has come across on this thread?

StopInvolvingMe · 02/03/2023 20:11

You like adjectives- I prefer verbs myself
