I know it’s regional, but I can’t find a thread here, only a brief mention on the BBC and even the daily mail it is way down.

is this a bad or good sign?

There was a very short announcement on local news. But it's the Northern half of the country, you can bet it will have alot more coverage when it's the southern half 🙄

Except it's not just the Northern half 🙄

I think pretty much every school in Scotland is shut today apart from some early years provision.
And there will be three days next month (one primary, one secondary and one both).
I've got an S4 who is trying to complete his Nat5 course work.
It's all over the Scottish news, but not sure about nationwide.

MaggieMagpie357 · 28/02/2023 13:22

It was second story on the 1pm news on BBC1 🤷🏼‍♀️

cocksstrideintheevening · 28/02/2023 13:22

Probably because it's Scotland and the north (I think) and the news is so London focussed.

We're in the south and the strike is Thursday but DH isn't striking this time neither are many of his colleagues as they can't afford to lose the pay. Maybe the impact isn't much?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/02/2023 13:31

I literally watched Kay Burley talking about it on Sky news this morning, there was a reporter on a picket line and interviews.

So you are being unreasonable.

Crunchymunchies · 28/02/2023 13:41

I haven’t seen any TV this morning, but it wasn’t mentioned on the radio this morning.

Two of my three are at school, my y4 and y11 with their days largely carrying on as usual. My y9 did a couple of hours of set work and is finished for the day. Until this thread, I haven't seen any mention of it here.

Yes it is. The southern half strike later in the week.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/02/2023 13:54

Media bias could account for subdued coverage but it does have any part to play in the lack of interest on sites like MN.

Plumbear2 · 28/02/2023 13:56

It's Scotland, Yorkshire and Humberside today. The southern areas are later this week

MarshaBradyo · 28/02/2023 13:57

I have heard it mentioned briefly but hadn’t thought much about where they are

I agree there’s not much on mn about it

OhmygodDont · 28/02/2023 14:00

I think people just lost Interest. I’ve got two home tomorrow but life goes on. Probably take some food to middles child on the picket then go shopping.

Theres another two still get here I think.

Crunchymunchies · 28/02/2023 14:01

It’s the north west too I think? Lancashire, Cheshire and so on.

JudgingwithJudy · 28/02/2023 14:17

I'm in the south west and both primary and secondary schools are closed to most children on Thursday. Only year 11 going in but there will be no teaching.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/02/2023 14:23

Only year 11 going in but there will be no teaching

Then why would they bother going in?

Plumbear2 · 28/02/2023 14:51

Once again it's a north south divide. Later in the week when the south is affected it will be all over the news.

ArrrMeHearties · 28/02/2023 14:56

Oh it's been noted where I am. All schools bar 3 nurseries are shut and more to come in a few weeks

ArrrMeHearties · 28/02/2023 14:56

In Central Scotland

Deliaskis · 28/02/2023 15:02

I'll be honest I'm not really sure what the impact has been here. We're in Cheshire, so part of the strike region, and all our local primary schools are open, and DD's secondary has years 11-13 in with taught lessons, and years 7-10 on Teams. Both strike days so far, DD's (Y7) classes seem to have had 3 out of 5 lessons taught, 2 of 5 lessons must have been striking teachers so nothing provided....so the actual disruption is not all that noticeable. I'm not talking about the rights and wrongs of striking, more that I'm not sure it's a very strong negotiating tool under these circumstances.

Wildspace · 28/02/2023 17:32

I just don’t think teachers striking is as disruptive as it was in the 1980’s.
Since Covid we’ve generally managed a lot better with unexpectedly having to be out of school for various reasons that it’s not the impact that it would previously have had. Still fully support the teachers and whatever action they need to take to get the improvements in their working conditions.

whynotwhatknot · 28/02/2023 17:37

my niece school was open- last time there wasnt enough teachers

dont know whats happened

HeresANewNameForToday · 28/02/2023 17:40

Everything is striking. Teachers, trains, nurses, border staff… it’s all getting lost into one big inconvenience now.

I support the strikes, but I don’t think they’ll have the desired effect at the moment. It’s all lost in the “Britain is broken” rhetoric. NHS is failing, Brexit was a shit show, schools are failing, we’re in record debt…
