To think this round of teacher strikes have barely been noticed?

I know it’s regional, but I can’t find a thread here, only a brief mention on the BBC and even the daily mail it is way down.

is this a bad or good sign?

@Nowhereelsetogo90 for the record I have worked in a school although not as a teacher, not the only one making assumptions. I also have friends and family members constantly talking about the bullying they're subjected to and all the rest, plus these strikes but it's good to hear that it's actually better than all that. As for the extras being parent pressure, who cares? The teachers are teaching not providing what parents want and most parents really hate all the constant dressing up, dressing down, mini plays through they year, the kids aren't always keen either.

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 01/03/2023 13:18

@Yazo that’s fair enough, neither of us should be assuming. I wish parents would say that then! Because when schools ask, parents always vote in favour. Same with homework - massive PITA extra for teaching staff. No value at all, plenty schools have got rid of it, parents moan about it. My school has surveyed parents three times and they’ve voted to keep it. Same as last setting as I was in too. People need to speak up if they don’t like these things about school, because chances are the school don’t either!

So we’ve got teachers don’t give a shit about the kids.

But also teachers give too much of a shit about the kids and organise too many fun and engaging activities for them so it’s their fault they’re tired.

Here’s a thread about Teaching Assistants getting crap wages for those complaining that no one ever considers the poor Teaching Assistants. Maybe you don’t, but others do.

Last time had more strikes going on at once, which I think made it bigger news.

I'm in the East Midlands, and many of the secondaries near me have all years off except the exam years today, same as last month, though the train strikes compounded the issues so even the colleges and similar that weren't striking then were impacted. No pickets at schools here.

Yazo · 01/03/2023 13:42

@noblegiraffe I never said they don't care at all. They care a lot, but if the workload is so high, why not drop the dressing up days? All those little things that add up but to what cost.

noblegiraffe · 01/03/2023 13:52

Because dropping the fun bits makes the job worse.

Interesting thread @noblegiraffe and it echoes this thread 1) some TAs being ex teachers 2) some TAs having minimal qualifications 3) All TAs needing a pay rise.
