If you got your period at someone’s house

Totally random but I’m suffering from being peri and periods all over the shop, I don’t always have sanitary supplies on me. If you got your period at someone else’s house what would you do?
Im thinking about putting a little sign saying ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed.
YANBU-great idea
YABU-far too weird

I am so way out of touch
complementary hygiene stuff ?!guest hand towels?!
what hole have I had my head down all my adult life………

ToLongToCharge · 27/02/2023 23:51

We have alot of carers and nurses in and out of the house
Pads are clearly on show in the bathroom
No need for a sign !

ToLongToCharge · 27/02/2023 23:52

We also have nappy bags, and baby wipes in the bathroom on show if someone needs them

Fiddledediddledeedee · 27/02/2023 23:54

Nappy bags and wipes 🤯

Could a kind MN write me a shopping list please….I must be such a crap host.

BarbedButterfly · 27/02/2023 23:54

I use a cup so carry it with me all the time. Was a shame when someone else I know was caught out though as I had nothing to give her

Veryverycalmnow · 28/02/2023 00:00

I leave my pack of sanitary towels on a shelf in the bathroom. Lazy AND helpful. Now I just need to work in the sign.

TheNestedIf · 28/02/2023 00:18

Anyone itching to get involved with someone else's period is weird. And they usually turn out to be a man.

This is as weird as putting a sign above the toilet roll saying "Please help yourself." Just leave the sanitary products somewhere handy if you're going to provide them.

Emptycrackedcup · 28/02/2023 00:38

YABU - weird! If someone comes over then surely they'd just ask? Or used toilet paper in an emergency.

discobrain · 28/02/2023 01:45

I always have stuff with me even if I'm not due to bleed, because I'm also perimenopausal and it likes to ruin my life when it feels like it

DoughnutDreams · 28/02/2023 02:00

I've had two periods in about six years and I still carry a few tampons in my bag/car, just in case. If I was caught short, like others - loo roll until I could get some.

chanceofpear · 28/02/2023 08:36

Totally weird. I would ask a friend if caught short anyhow. Best not be caught short in my house though as we always seem to be running out - luckily shop is only over the road.

NowAAT · 28/02/2023 08:41

I wouldn't put up a sign but I always have supplies in the bathroom just in case we have female guests and if I ever visit anywhere I always carry my own supplies.

OutOfThisState · 28/02/2023 08:43

It reminds me of those weird videos on tiktok with men saying they’re going to carry tampons so they can ‘help‘ women. Totally weird. Most women carry stuff or would go and buy what they needed or would just ask.

😬

Tampons (applicator and non-applicator) and pads
Wipes
Make-up wipes
Nappy bags
Toothbrushes (multi pack of new ones)

I think that covers most needs. Plus I have a big cupboard in the bathroom from which visitors can take whatever towels they need, as and when. I don't put out special 'guest towels', though - I'm not that organised. There just seem to be a lot of towels around the bathroom. I'm probably a crap host for being chronically untidy and leaving everything out!

BogRollBOGOF · 28/02/2023 11:15

I use cloth pads which are comfortable to wear in the phase of the month when it's likely to arrive, so I'm unlikely to be caught out.

I've kept the old pads and tampons from my disposables days in a drawer upstairs in case. Avaliable upon request. They'd just waste space downstairs.

Thankyou for that ….I’m on a learning curve here.
but
Why would anyone leave supplies of make up wipes
I don’t even use these myself, whats wrong with a face cloth
i suppose more to the point why would women be doing their makeup in your house….if they stay over don’t they bring their own…..v confused…..
And why toothbrushes. Although to be fare I do always have spare, and DSs friends have used them if unplanned stay over…… but generally because I buy in bulk not specifically for visitors ….

purpledalmation · 28/02/2023 11:34

No. A pad or tampon in your bag at all times is the answer. Your bag goes everywhere with you.

bussteward · 28/02/2023 11:41

A sign is weird enough, a sign that says “ladies” and “supplies” is doubly, triply weird. Where is the sign? Do I have to go looking for it? Or is there one in every room? Can men see it? Supplies of what? Who calls their friends ladies?

Literally everyone I know if caught short would open a cupboard, use what they found then come downstairs and say, “I borrowed a tampon, hope that’s cool.” (Cue a “you borrowed it? I don’t want it back!” remark.)

frozenyoghurtyurt · 28/02/2023 11:51

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/02/2023 21:08

A sign?

Pft, go the whole hog, have it in 6 inch wall decal, rhyming of course...

'Live, Love, Flow
Our San-Pro
Can be Found Below'

Over a big basket of neatly arranged products of all shapes and sizes.

Surely if you've loo roll they can use that, and if they know you well enough they'll either rummage for themselves or yell and ask?

Fuck me I'm done 😂😂😂

Littleflowerseverywhere · 28/02/2023 11:53

Good don’t do that it’s so cringe and rhe “ladies “ bit makes it worse. Really just don’t.

Littleflowerseverywhere · 28/02/2023 11:55

ToLongToCharge · 27/02/2023 23:52

On show??? Why can’t a guest with a young baby bring their own or just ask. Why would you display them?

Littleflowerseverywhere · 28/02/2023 11:58

If I went to someone’s house and saw they’d san pro, nappies etc all sitting out I’d not think they were weirdly displaying them for the taking, I’d just think they’d no storage or were messy buggers who didn’t put stuff away.

I guess in that instance a sign would work, but then I’d think you were fucking weird.

piedbeauty · 28/02/2023 12:01

Mangogogogo · 27/02/2023 20:02

If my periods were all over I’d carry protection always tbh!

Yes. I always do.

GoodChat · 28/02/2023 12:05

How often do you have women in your house who wouldn't be comfortable asking for sanitary products if they got caught out?

I have a little wicker basket on the bathroom window sill with a lid that has sanitary towels and tampons in it though so I think that's easily accessible without it being obvious to the untrained eye (ie men)

maddy68 · 28/02/2023 12:05

I do have a nice little box in our guest bathroom with tissues , tampons , deodorant etc in. It's just on the shelf. Don't need a sign
