Totally random but I’m suffering from being peri and periods all over the shop, I don’t always have sanitary supplies on me. If you got your period at someone else’s house what would you do?
Im thinking about putting a little sign saying ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed.
YANBU-great idea
YABU-far too weird

A sign?

Where??

On the gate?

Beware of the dog

NO cold callers, NO junk mail please

Ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed

I just burst out laughing.

  1. I always carry sanpro as many women do.
  2. I have a basket with sanpro in the downstairs bathroom like many women have (including 70 yo MIL). I prefer to switch to period pants asap but do check if the basket needs restocking regularly or before/after a party. To me, baskets in downstairs bathrooms are free to use when needed.

Reading this thread makes me so glad a friend talked me into getting a DivaCup a year ago. No more of this nonsense of being caught redhanded in someone else's bathroom. Stop supporting P&G with their bleached plastic crap and forget you are on your period. Heaven. I wish I had had a cup when I was a teen...

Logicalreasoning · 27/02/2023 22:14

I carry some In my back pack and some in my little side bag, if mine were unpredictable I’d defo make sure I’ve got some, it’s not up to others to supply them for you...

KeepingTheWaterOut · 27/02/2023 22:16

I've got a small bowl in my bathroom with pads / tampons / travel size toothpaste/cheap sealed toothbrush / pack of paper hankies and a wee laminated sign saying "guests - help yourself to anything you need."

All very well, but most teenagers don't have a mooncup (or similar). In fact, most women don't. I did investigate them, as it happens, as I'm all in favour - but couldn't use them thanks to the cervical prolapse following DC1's birth. They just fall out. I did suggest to my DDs that they try menstrual cups, and they gave me the Look of Doom.

Nowhereelsetogo90 · 27/02/2023 22:18

I’d just ask! Or carry my own in zip bit of handbag. Sign is weird.

YukoandHiro · 27/02/2023 22:19

Where are you putting up that sign? In your own house? That's weird.

Stompythedinosaur · 27/02/2023 22:20

I think a sign is weird. But I have sanpro in a visible basket so my dd's friends can help themselves without needing to ask.

But as an adult I pretty much always carry sanpro - in my handbag, my work bag and my car.

I don’t understand what you don’t just make sure there are sanitary items in your bag?

How many random women are coming in and out of your house that will randomly start their period? Putting up a sign detailing where sanitary items are is just super weird imo.

Seems like something a 19 year old uni lad would do in an attempt to seem sensitive but hoping to get laid.

I don’t know if you meant to sound funny but this has really made me smile 😄

Ive got an image of OP waiting at her front door like Hyacinth Bouquet about to pounce on some unsuspecting person, merrily calling out ‘Any periods needs dear?’ before cheerily directing them to your own tampon dispenser or similar.

(Sorry, I’ve had a busy day and I’ve gone slightly hysterical)

Mumuser124 · 27/02/2023 22:25

I have a basket with visible products in but if I was at a friends I’d either ask or just use toilet tissue until I got home.

ChrisPPancake · 27/02/2023 22:26

I'm a couple of years post menopause and I still carry a tampon and a pad as a minimum just in case.
My friends know that they can help themselves to whatever they need when they're here so no, I wouldn't put up a sign.

quince2figs · 27/02/2023 22:26

autocarrot · 27/02/2023 20:23

I have a basket in the bathroom with loo rolls, tampons, pads, nappy sacks, wipes, etc. Visiting girls/women can help themselves as necessary. I also have a load of new toothbrushes, make up remover (though I don't wear make up) etc lying around in the bathroom - my DC often had friends to stay unexpectedly when they were teenagers and still at home, and random guests don't necessarily come equipped with toothbrushes and makeup remover.

Same here, for teen dd’s friends. Can’t assume they all have parents that supply these things as needed. I would have been mortified at that age to have to manage a heavy period leak at someone else’s house, and would have been too embarrassed to ask or to rifle through cupboards.

Mumoffairy · 27/02/2023 22:35

I check the cabinets in the guest bathroom and steal one. If theres none, then i ask the host. I always have a pack of pads and tampons in my guest bathroom for this reason.

TheOrigRights · 27/02/2023 22:36

I never go far w/o my mooncup, either in me or in my bag (52, erratic cycles).
When I've been caught short I've asked someone for a tampon.
The worst getting caught out incident was when I was about 15, cycles all over the place and had a really heavy one. I was on a visit to a priest training college with my church. I DID NOT ask!
Also football stadiums. It seems the presence of lots of men causes some sort of over reaction by my uterus!

TheOrigRights · 27/02/2023 22:37

I will put supplies in the bathroom actually, now that DS has girls over (I have 2 sons).

TheOrigRights · 27/02/2023 22:39

I'm gonna steal a massive supermarket "feminine hygiene products" sign and illuminate it with neon lights.

ToLongToCharge · 27/02/2023 22:39

A sign?

Do you have random woman in your house?

Fiddledediddledeedee · 27/02/2023 22:41

I’d expect people to carry their own stuff but if someone got caught short they could always ask me.
Putting a sign up in your own house is a bit weird, a bit hotel really.

I'm not sure how a diva cup would solve the OP's problem of being caught out at the start of an unexpected period, unless you're either wearing or carrying it all the time? In which case you could also wear a pad/carry a tampon all the time!

PigeonPlayingChicken · 27/02/2023 22:43

Hmm. How strange.

BadgerWadger · 27/02/2023 22:43

I personally use period pants. But since i now have a teen dd, and all her friends regularly come over to ours i now have a pack of bodyform in the downstairs toilet. That way if anyone does need some sanpro its there for the taking. I have noticed it occasionally dwindles, and i just go out and buy another pack.

Yes - but I wouldn't blame their parents for not supplying stuff, because there was often no discussion about whether they were going to stay over or not. It was basically an open house for my DC and their friends, and providing sanpro and whatever else they might need if they happened to decide to crash here was part of it.

Happy days! It's bloody quiet without them.

xprincessxjanetx · 27/02/2023 22:45

Really, really weird.

axillarytailofspence · 27/02/2023 22:50

I was caught out about 20 years ago. Had my period and had a tampon and sanitary towel on. Sitting at dining table with my husband and his work colleague. Suddenly flooded. I was mortified because I had stained the chair. My (ex husband) ignored my request to take me home. His female colleague gave me fresh clothes. It was part of an abusive episode with my ex that I will never forget it.
Midwife.
