If you got your period at someone’s house

Totally random but I’m suffering from being peri and periods all over the shop, I don’t always have sanitary supplies on me. If you got your period at someone else’s house what would you do?
Im thinking about putting a little sign saying ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed.
YANBU-great idea
YABU-far too weird

you let visitors use your toilet! Surely that’s against MN rules?

elizabethdraper · 27/02/2023 21:17

Jaysis, anyone in my house would be ducked

Haven't had sanpro in the house for years, only use my mooncup

steff13 · 27/02/2023 21:21

My periods are still like clockwork, but I always carry something with me anyway.

I also keep pads and tampons in both bathrooms, and I am happy for anyone who needs one to help themselves.
No need to ask.

Haffiana · 27/02/2023 21:21

I have a tampon vending machine in my kitchen in case any of my friends get caught short. I used to donate the considerable profits to the Sensitive Teenager's Fund, but recently I have been supporting a local Crisis centre.

I am pondering on a condom vending machine in the hall. Do other ladies find that they keep leaving home without one? I would like to be helpful if that is the case.

It’s 13 years since my last period, and I only recently threw away my stash of Tampax, with vague memories of “toxic shock syndrome” in the back of my mind. I kept the pads though, should anyone visit and find that they need one.

Oh good point. I have sone old stuff like that but hadn't considered any use by dates?

I'd assume female friends would ask. Or maybe check the cupboard under the sink in only bathroom where there are sone boxes.

Aftertheshowisover · 27/02/2023 21:22

Those saying you should always carry some don’t sound as if they live in the real world. And Yes break the taboo on talking about periods but if you’d use up the last of the loo roll how easy would you find it to yell I need loo roll? Anyway there are many many reasons we can get caught out never heard of the menopause and how for some it’s not straightforward? Yes I’m annoyed with those saying be prepared after thinking you’re clear for almost two years then out of the blue down it comes! Carrying round for nearly two years it was worn out!

GrilledBear · 27/02/2023 21:23

@Haffiana Stop it!! 😂

CherryHouse · 27/02/2023 21:27

Most women would have pads/tampons with them when they’re due on. Presumably they could ask if they were taken by surprise at your house. Totally ott to have a sign.

PriOn1 · 27/02/2023 21:29

My ex husband’s aunt was one of the loveliest people I ever met. She had sanitary towels in a jar in the bathroom. They’re all individually wrapped and look clean and tidy these days and I just thought it was a lovely, thoughtful thing to do. I don’t have many visitors at the moment, but when I do start to have more, it’s something I will definitely do, and indeed did before my daughter left for university.

familyissues12345 · 27/02/2023 21:31

I have a basket in the downstairs cabinet, it's just me and a household of men, but DS1 in particular regularly has female friends around and I think it's nice there's something just in case. I don't highlight they are there though, but if they are desperate I guess they'd have a look?!

Prego5972 · 27/02/2023 21:32

I have a little draw in the bathroom with multiple size tampons, pads, liners, and creams etc. And anyone can help themselves! We have a very female dominant family. Most know the draw is there, and others just ask if they ever get cut short. Although agree with others, a sign would be weird and most carry their own anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

Newstartonwards · 27/02/2023 21:36

Starseeed · 27/02/2023 20:03

Weird. Just carry your own stuff surely? That’s what the zip pocket of your handbag is for - always carry some with you and top it up every day you use some! There isn’t one size fits all anyway - I prefer to use what works for me.

Or just wear period pants?

BabychamGlass · 27/02/2023 20:24

A sign?

Where??

On the gate?

Beware of the dog

NO cold callers, NO junk mail please

Ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed

😂😂😂

Daisybee6 · 27/02/2023 21:41

I've always carried something with me in my bag all the time since I started my periods, I'm in my thirties now 😄 I've always got at least 1 tampon at all times.

But if you want to do that it wouldn't hurt anyone

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 27/02/2023 21:42

I too am intrigued by where such a sign would go.

RicherThanYews · 27/02/2023 21:43

I'm amazed that the little zip pocket is for tampons, didn't know that and I've always carried my mace and knife there tbh.

maddy68 · 27/02/2023 21:45

Ask your friend. ...she your friend !

maddy68 · 27/02/2023 21:46

I always leave some visible in my bathroom so people can help themselves

bellsbuss · 27/02/2023 21:48

I keep a little basket in the downstairs loo with several loo rolls , tampax and san towels

Grettaetta · 27/02/2023 21:49

Since my DD got caught out at a friend’s and was too shy to ask, I’ve always kept them in the bathroom so her friends can easily find them if they need to. Would be happy for adults to take anything they need too.

Inca22 · 27/02/2023 21:49

When I went through a period of flooding I would go through my stack so quickly so in all our bathrooms I've got a cute little basket with organic pads and a closed small bin. I went through so many embarrassing situations. I don't even have that many visitors Grin

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 27/02/2023 21:54

I rarely carry a handbag. Even when I do I never carry pads or tampons in it. I’d never go in someone’s cupboards, and I’d also never ask, not even a friend or relative! I don’t track my cycles and never have any idea when I’m about to have a period, comes as a surprise each time. I also refuse to spend a quid on a single pad in a public loo. It has literally never been a problem. Loo roll, or period pants.

I used to manage whole periods from start to finish with just loo roll because it was available free in public toilets.

autocarrot · 27/02/2023 21:55

I don't bother with the 'cute' or 'organic'. It's a Primark basket containing everything a girl/woman could possibly need. It's not organic, though, because organic costs money that I don't have. I'll gladly sacrifice organic for my DC's friends to feel welcome, though.

autocarrot · 27/02/2023 21:57

So did I, in the early 80s, and it was bloody (sorry) miserable to walk around with a wodge of loo roll in your pants. Which is another reason why I leave it all out and available for any woman or girl who needs it.

Why wouldn’t you be fully stocked up for emergencies if your period was all over the place?!!!!! It’s like taking a baby out with spare nappies?!!!!!!!
