If you got your period at someone’s house

Terrysnotmine · 27/02/2023 20:01

Totally random but I’m suffering from being peri and periods all over the shop, I don’t always have sanitary supplies on me. If you got your period at someone else’s house what would you do?
Im thinking about putting a little sign saying ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed.
YANBU-great idea
YABU-far too weird

No sign but we keep the products in a basket by the loo, even though we have a cabinet. This is because DD is now 13 and she and her friends are all at that age when periods are sporadic, some have started, others not and I hate the idea of a young girl getting caught short at out house and feeling upset and uncomfortable. By leaving them out it means ‘help yourself if you need’.

Merangutan · 27/02/2023 22:53

It’s a bit counterproductive to put up a sign directing them to go to another bathroom to get sanitary stuff in an attempt to make it less of a big deal! Just put a few in the bathroom that the sign would go in!

I'm gonna steal a massive supermarket "feminine hygiene products" sign and illuminate it with neon lights.

I think they are called period products now. Wouldn't want to offend the non females that use tampons.

Toseland · 27/02/2023 22:54

I think the OP is a male fishing for exciting 'girly info' for their next TikTok show.

katesbushh · 27/02/2023 22:57

I think most women (at least the ones I know) would ask.
I definitely would and have done in a pub toilet before as I was caught short the machine wasn't working and I didn't even know that woman.
I don't get the whole coy thing over periods at all.

In my downstairs loo I have 2 baskets.
One has loo roll
One has my towels and tampons.
I'd imagine most would just help themselves.

mumda · 27/02/2023 22:57

Is this periodsplaining.

GreenSunfish · 27/02/2023 22:59

I leave thin and thick towels out. I’ve done this since my daughters started their period. I know their friends get their periods so it’s just good to have them out and easy to access for anyone that needs them.

Goawayangryman · 27/02/2023 23:02

Inspired by this idea, I'm going to hang Lil-lets up by the strings in a kind of frond around the light fitting. No one will have to ask or find the secret bathroom of plenty. They will be right there dangling above your head and you can simply pluck one down if you have the bad fortune to menopausally flood in my bathroom.

Am I the only one who wouldn't even necessarily understand the sign. Out of context (which it would be if not written above a basket of sanitary products), I'd be thinking 'supplies of what?' I'd be wondering if you were offering us drugs!

JudgeRudy · 27/02/2023 23:04

Yes. All other rooms too. They're just gotta ask

Snowpatrolling · 27/02/2023 23:05

My friend was helping me move at the weekend and started her period, she asked if I had. A tampon, I gave her one.
no big deal???

LikeTearsInRain · 27/02/2023 23:05

I think it’s a lovely idea OP

You could put a box up with a sign outside your home too for any dog walkers or similar affected similarly

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/02/2023 23:06

We have a wicker basket next to the loo which has tampons, pads, and loo rolls in it. I’d hope any guest would help themselves. I have a Mirena coil so no real periods but still carry a liner/couple of Tampax just in case.

I’m in Scotland and “public buildings” all have free sanitary products in the toilets. (So places like the art gallery, for example, plus schools, colleges etc.) I’m a lecturer and I previously often had students sidle up and ask if I had a tampon/painkillers etc after a tutorial so I think a lot of people don’t carry stuff just in case.

Optionally · 27/02/2023 23:16

I thought it was standard to have some pads and / or tampons in an easily reached cupboard in your bathroom, in case visitors need them.

Like if you find a toddler size shoe on the ground, you put it on the nearest obvious place. It’s a sort of social contract.

Whydoitry · 27/02/2023 23:17

Has happened to me. I asked my friend but she has contraception that means she doesn't need any sanitary towels. So I rolled up loo roll and thankfully flow was light.

I always have a reusable towel on me now.

I would just stick some in a container in the downstairs loo and assume people would be happy to help themselves if I was that bothered. But most people I know use mooncup and reusables now so it's never occurred to me tbh.

A sign?

Where??

On the gate?

Beware of the dog

NO cold callers, NO junk mail please

Ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed

😂😂😂😂

Bit different from finding a lost shoe.
Ive never supplied anything
Tbh it has never occurred to me and I’ve never checked friends cupboards out in case they do.
Just wondering if people go through my cupboards now and think bad of me.

AlmostaMamma · 27/02/2023 23:27

This isn’t mine, but I have something similar (I also just think the screenshot is hilarious).

You've reminded me that I had a kind of lost property box when my DC were at home. Our house is one big black hole so things mostly just went into the void, but some things ended up downstairs. They went into Lost Property. I gained a few nice unclaimed items. Grin

🤣🤣🤣fantastic

autocarrot · 27/02/2023 23:38

I'm starting to think that one of the advantages to living in a madhouse is that guests do at least feel able to help themselves to stuff. I know I leave period stuff etc out, but I'd hate it if visiting teenagers hadn't felt as if they could treat my home as their own. In turn, this meant I could treat them as my own children, so could happily bollock them for cooking frozen stuff while drunk at 4AM.

I just looked what they're under in online Tesco and it comes up with "Health & Beauty -> Women's Toiletries -> Sanitary Protection & Intimate Wash"

What would a non female do with a tampon

LemonSwan · 27/02/2023 23:44

A sign is so weird. If it’s something which worries you then a small basket with pads in is really nice and something I have seen in peoples bathrooms. It’s next to the guest hand towel batch so assuming for use. It’s a nice touch IMO.

GlassBunion · 27/02/2023 23:44

Wadge of loo roll. No worries.
