If you got your period at someone’s house

Totally random but I’m suffering from being peri and periods all over the shop, I don’t always have sanitary supplies on me. If you got your period at someone else’s house what would you do?
Im thinking about putting a little sign saying ladies, supplies are in the upstairs bathroom, please help yourself if needed.
YANBU-great idea
YABU-far too weird

When it happened to me I just said to the house owner "ffs I've come on my period, not due on for another 3 days. You got anything I can use please". 2 mins later she arrives with several options in hand and refilled my drink 😂

Campervangirl · 27/02/2023 20:34

We have baskets in our bathrooms at work with sanitary items, deodorant, hand cream etc provided by the company.
I've always liked the fact that our company has the forethought to provide them.
If I had regular visitors I might do something similar but I'm antisocial (duck down behind the sofa if anyone knocks on the door type antisocial 😂)
However, I'd hope anyone caught short at my house would feel comfortable enough to let me know / ask for help

CandlelightGlow · 27/02/2023 20:34

Someone in my office (before WFH) put up a lovely sign in the ladies to say they could provide* *pads etc if you get caught out. Makes sense in a public place, in your own home I'd just have stuff out.

LaughingCat · 27/02/2023 20:30

I don’t think that's weird - sometimes you’re caught short. I once grabbed the wrong handbag on the way out the door and then had to spend an excruciating seven hours on a train…and my period started.

Sometimes these things happen. A little note to say ‘help yourself if you need it’ would be really welcome in a friend’s bathroom as I’d be way too embarrassed to ask outright unless I was super desperate!

A sign IN the bathroom would make a tad more sense (but a basket of tampons etc on the side would probably suffice).

The OP was suggesting a sign elsewhere in the house, directing people to a specific bathroom Grin

pointythings · 27/02/2023 20:35

Before my periods stopped I always carried some, and even now I have pads and tampons out openly in both loos for people (and my DC) to use. No sign needed.

Sunsetintheeast · 27/02/2023 20:35

If you open a cupboard in our bathrooms, you’ll find something. Surely you’d expect someone to help themselves or ask?

A sign is wierd.
I never go anywhere without my handbag which contains a couple of tampons, a panty liner, plasters, mini hand cream, paracetamol & antihistamine

This. I'm doing the same thing.

BarrelOfOtters · 27/02/2023 20:37

@Terrysnotmine I used a moon cup in peri….game changer.

NCSQ · 27/02/2023 20:37

Seems like something a 19 year old uni lad would do in an attempt to seem sensitive but hoping to get laid

Hahahaha! This.

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/02/2023 20:37

We have a little basket in the loo and main bathroom along with a bin. Dd’s friends have used the ones upstairs but not down, which is fine so I restock upstairs more regularly.

Emmamoo89 · 27/02/2023 20:37

I carry my own pads but if I was at one of my girlfriends I'd ask if they have any

Emmamoo89 · 27/02/2023 20:38

Yanbu

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 27/02/2023 20:38

Mine are predictable but I always carry stuff around just in case.

If I was at a friends house I'd just ask.

Name999999 · 27/02/2023 20:38

Why does everyone want to create little bits of drama all the time over small things?! People generally carry their own but just stick a basket in tbe loo with some products - job done. No need for little signs. Soz! Drama llama

BurtonsRevenge · 27/02/2023 20:39

A sign is really useful.
At the end of the sign you should tell them to let you know if they have needed your supplies to just let you know when they leave so you can replenish for the next friend. Usually a phrase such as "I just loved your bathroom tiles" or similar is recommended, at least it is across Vermont.

neverendinglauaundry · 27/02/2023 20:39

The sign is slightly eccentric but I think it's a nice idea. I leave stuff out in a basket & happy for ppl to use it.

If I was at someone's house and came on unexpectedly I'd use a wad of loo roll or ask them.

I wouldn't go in someone's bathroom cupboards/drawers without prior permission....I'd be annoyed too if someone went in mine.

I don’t understand what you don’t just make sure there are sanitary items in your bag?

How many random women are coming in and out of your house that will randomly start their period? Putting up a sign detailing where sanitary items are is just super weird imo.

Seems like something a 19 year old uni lad would do in an attempt to seem sensitive but hoping to get laid.

The post on Reddit that inspired OP was literally just that - a guy carrying around sanitary products and offering them to women to seem in touch (he seemed genuine but very odd).

eatdrinkandbemerry · 27/02/2023 20:40

Well in my bathroom there's a box of all different kinds of san pro available so I'd like to think anyone who needs it would just help themselves x

Swiftswatch · 27/02/2023 20:40

Tampons this way ➡️

gamerchick · 27/02/2023 20:41

I keep supplies out in view anyway. My friends know they can help themselves.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 27/02/2023 20:42

It's a good idea to have a little basket of products in the wc for visitor to help themselves to. I've seen this when using facilities at nice hotels or restaurants.
Agree with everyone else though that the sign is unnecessary.

ttcat37 · 27/02/2023 20:42

No that’s ridiculous 😂 just keep some in the cupboard/ wherever you’d usually keep them, they’ll find them if they need it!

Wishawisha · 27/02/2023 20:43

I’d just use toilet paper.

Btjdkfnn · 27/02/2023 20:44

If your periods are all over the place then you need to carry supplies all of the time. Your sign would be weird as hell, I'm sorry.

People are mainly capable of carrying supplies or sorting out the problem somehow, whether that means asking or leaving or using a pad constructed out of toilet paper.
