To ask how much your summer 2023 holiday is costing?

I know things have changed since last year but wow. Even compromising the price is still wow. To the point I'd rather pay for exactly what I want than pay so much for the compromise.

I need to get some perspective I think on whats the going rate these days. I dont like to discuss money with family and friends so would rather ask here.

Would you share if you are having a holiday, what you are paying, family size, board and term time or not so I can work out if I am BU in my budget?

3k for all inclusive in Majorca 4* beginning of June so out of school holidays. 2 adults 1, 4Yr old. This is our last time we can go out of school holidays as DD starts school in September. I don't think we be able to manage the same in August next year.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 26/02/2023 10:30

Why do some think that people make things up because it’s more than the average person can afford? Do they not know what ‘average’ means? 49% of people can afford more than that.

Casilero · 26/02/2023 10:31

@Icequeen01 I know! I wanted to book for May when I first started looking but everywhere I wanted to go was so expensive and then I'd see something affordable and spend a couple of days showing my daughter and partner and then by the time I went back to book that would be another 20-30% too. My sister has put an alert on her phone for when easyjet release their Christmas flights which I need to do for next year!

Whammyyammy · 26/02/2023 10:34

Not booked our main holiday yet, but booked flights to visit our son in rhe Greek Isles, £320 each for return in June, was about £250 last year.
Also accompanying husband on a business trip to San Diego, flight was cheaper than normal. So not seeing a big rise.

Stealth boost maybe. Because many people exaggerate on these boards and do not tell the truth.
Woops I am going to the moon too. I forgot to add that.

Sorry but you're coming across as very jealous. Of course not everyone can afford this, myself included, but I know a few people who could. I'm not jealous though, I'm delighted with my 10 days in Turkey and a couple of weekends camping, which I know I'm fortunate to be able to afford.

Dinkleberg · 26/02/2023 10:37

We cannot afford a holiday abroad and we're not poor (income is on the 48th percentile according to an online calculator, so very average). I'm not jealous nor begrudge anyone though, if we could afford a holiday abroad we would certainly have one!

I can afford Turkey and camping no problem.

It is just people who say they're going away every month for like 1k a pop is just laughable and not believable.

I'm talking about the previous poster who is claiming to go away every month for like 1k a pop.

That just isn't believable. But people going to Spain, France, Turkey etc is far more believable.

At least 3 of my friends could easily afford this (investment bankers or married to one). I definitely went into the wrong job!

3 adults and two children, a few days before the May school break. Morocco AI in a platinum hotel £1400 each. It's now gone up to £1800 each.
Two adults in September, AI in Majorca £356 each, booked last year, but now it's £700+.
They key is to book as early as possible. We are looking at campsites close to Disney land Paris summer 2024.

I know someone who does this. They are married to someone in private security. Some people who do live on their own go away every break from work as they are on their own. No other big outgoings. Just because it’s not your lifestyle doesn’t mean other people don’t live like it. 6k ish a year with no children? I’d spend a lot more than that on holidays! Why are you on the thread?

Ponoka7 · 26/02/2023 10:47

@OoooohMatron I agree that they could afford those holidays, but could they get a week off work every month?
I did go camping every week for three days and trips abroad, but I had to work a four day week, constantly. With two 10 day holidays a year.

Littlegoth · 26/02/2023 10:48

Private villa in the Balearics, 2 adults 2 children, 2 weeks 6.1k

The poster never said that though. A week or few days here in 5 different months.

brokenstone · 26/02/2023 10:49

£100 for 4 nights camping. 2 adults & 4 children.

Cannot afford much else nor can we get the annual leave granted.

elderberryink · 26/02/2023 10:49

Two adults, two children, going to visit family in Greece in the May half term. We managed to get flights for £1400 but will have to miss two days school and pay for a hotel the night before as the airport is several hours from our house - it was package deals only from all airports within a reasonable distance which boils my piss somewhat! So I expect it will be £1500 + car hire and daily expenses. No accomodation as we stay with family. If we had stuck to the term dates it would have been closer to £3000 just for the bloody flights! Had a look at the all inclusive deals out of curiousity and the prices were nuts.

Have sound it significantly more expensive and harder to get convenient flights than this time last year. We wouldn't be going abroad at all if we didn't have family there.

I have 0 children and can afford holidays (last holiday abroad September).

It just doesn't seem believable and seems laughable that people are claiming to go away every month for like 1k a pop or near enough.

Littlegoth · 26/02/2023 10:51

More than I would normally pay but we haven’t been away for 5 years at that point, and it’s celebrating special birthdays where we did nothing due to lockdown.

ilovebagpuss · 26/02/2023 10:51

Well I can't help you this year. I have been looking at cottages in Wales or lodges and because we have 2 teens they like their own room so it would be a 3 bed house.
All the reasonably located and comfy looking ones are £1500 plus for a week.
I saw a lovely lodge and it was £2600! Who is paying that for a week in Pembrokshire!
I know I could search out something cheaper and very basic miles from anything but I don't want that.
So this year will be a mix of stay at home fun and the odd night away.

That’s not what they said though. They booked 5 holidays (different months) over a year ago for <week at a time. That’s just someone using their annual leave to get away regularly. Someone living on their own, decent salary. Why not?

StrawberryJam4Ever · 26/02/2023 10:52

Prices have doubled what we once paid when I did DIY long haul. Last year I paid £3000 for a package AI 2 week holiday to Mexico for 2 adults. A bit more was paid for a B&B multi destination to Thailand.

LibbyL92 · 26/02/2023 10:54

the vegas one was meant to be during the pandemic.. so that one was paid for nearly 2 years ago. (Moved various times)

I mentioned I’m a single person paying. If I had a family of course I would not be able to afford them all.

Why I would lie I don’t know…
