To buy DD a present between birthday and Christmas.

DD is desperate for a Rainbow High doll. She’s 6. I think it’s a bit tied up with friendship issues because it’s become a thing on her friendship group and she feels left out when they play with them.

Her birthday isn’t until June.

We usually don’t buy ‘big’ presents outside of birthdays or Christmas.

We can afford it, I just worry about spoiling. What do other people do about toys outside of birthdays or Christmases.

YABU - Buy her the bloody doll.
YANBU - hold out till Christmas

Find some reason to treat her, like helping with chores, or just for being a good girl. You’ll enjoy it as much as she will. Get her a money box too and give her an allowance each week so she learns about the value of money and saving.

Just to warn you, the house is about 200 quid and it stands four feet tall. My STBXH brought it for our daughter for Christmas. She absolutely loves the rainbow high range, and she even likes some of the shadow high range. I think she must have about 8 or 9 dolls now, as well as the colour changing car and the wardrobe box. They aren’t cheap. We have a few dolls on her Amazon Wish List so that if people want to get them for her birthday or Christmas, they can and they’ll know which ones she wants.

100% I voted YABU Then read the last bit and changed it

my daughter gets lots of presents between Christmas and birthday because she’s a November baby so she’d have to wait 11 months with nothing, I often buy her a doll or something for having a good school report or for being start of the week or she has a doll for Easter…
Being spoilt isn’t about receiving presents it’s about not appreciating the things you get given in my opinion. My daughter is always incredibly grateful and looks after her toys so I don’t mind buying her things all year round

Can you find a way for her to "earn" the doll, or if she does really well on soke school work or something.

She bought the doll

Maybe OP should buy a new doll every time someone says to buy a doll. Her DD will have the entire terrifying collection in no time.

Rainallnight · 28/02/2023 14:46

Which would be useful now that DD wants all of them

They’re bloody horrendous. Yes, she was very clear about which one she wanted.

I gave it to her. She’s really pleased. I wouldn’t say celestial beings are trumpeting joy or anything - I’ve seen her more joyful at lots of other things - but she’s pleased and it’s in bed with her now.

She’s now decided the next two dolls she wants and the house. This is all very new from her. She’s not normally at all acquisitive. Just need to ride the wave, I guess.

Glad you bought her the doll x
i’d tell her that she can have another for Easter, but will be instead of any eggs! Then all others need to go on a birthday list now.. June isn’t too long to wait.

Buy the Doll
Cancel the cheque 😂

You should make as a reward for something I think carrot works better than a stick!

Stewball01 · 07/03/2023 14:38

Do you have other children? You have to buy for them too. You don't want jealousy to ruin the fun.
