Yes it was ace!!!

Silvergone · 22/02/2023 22:54

It was genius tv

uhOhOP · 22/02/2023 22:55

Yes, and I loved it! But I'd really hate for it to try to come back. It'd never be even half as good as it was.

I agree, it would be full of dull duck lipped types, nobody these days could measure up to the Edinburgh accountant!

It was great. You couldn't have it now because it would be all about sex

BudgeUpAnne · 22/02/2023 23:03

They just can't make shows like this anymore. I was a young teen in the 90s and Saturday nights were just fab - family fortunes, Blind Date, Gladiators, You Bet, Stars in their Eyes!

IneedanewTV · 22/02/2023 23:05

Loved that programme.

earsup · 22/02/2023 23:13

it was all fake and scripted and Cilla was vile to everyone...friend worked on that show for a while !

Graphista · 22/02/2023 23:14

It was good at first then they went scripted and it was shit. Spontaneity is much better.

Iam4eels · 22/02/2023 23:14

Wasn't there an exposé article about it towards the end, possibly in one of the Sunday papers? I remember reading something about there being an expectation of sex and lack of safeguarding while the couple was away on their date with several of the female contestants across several episodes complaining to production that the guy they were with was being a total skeeze and production did nothing about it.

It did come back with Paul O'Grady as host.

Oh, You Bet! I still think about that programme from time to time, an episode where a boy said he could identify car models from their silhouettes. Does anybody remember that episode? Was it silhouettes?

Fake and scripted? Stop ruining our childhood memories! 🤣

I was coming on to say the same! Tell me it wasn’t fake

WestOfWestminster · 22/02/2023 23:23

The episide I remember is where the couple picked a survival camp as their holiday (remember the choice of the 3 envelopes?) & they had to eat fish eyes.

And yes You Bet was amazing too, that should definitely come back. The one that sticks in my mind was someone who could identify any Beatles tune just by looking at one bar of manuscript. Such a good show.

friend told me lots of fab gossip...how rude and vile Cilla was to a lot of the contestants.. [ and all the show staff...a total vile diva and ignored everyone, probably pissed also ]....told them they were ugly etc and should be grateful for a shag...!!

XenoBitch · 22/02/2023 23:25

Haha, all the innuendo. Could not get away with it nowadays

ifoundthebread · 22/02/2023 23:27

While on the topic of older tv programmes can anyone remember the moment of truth, i think it was called. Family member used to get a challenge like remember all 500 kids names in a school and if they did it would win a prize. The few people ive mentioned it to look at me like ive grown another head.

Desiredeffect · 22/02/2023 23:28

Here's Graham with a quick reminder

UserNameSameGame · 22/02/2023 23:36

My friend went on blind date. I think she ended up going out with (maybe even marrying?) one of the production team. She was barking mad, but lovely.

Yes! Loved that

Inyourexperience · 22/02/2023 23:42

I was watching a clip earlier of when a journalist went on pretending to be a contestant and cilla ‘outed’ her.

uhOhOP · 22/02/2023 23:44

Wasn't Blind Date the start of Amanda Holden's career?

The challenge I remember was car lights ie the back lights. He made an error and failed the challenge. I really hoped that they'd give him another chance as he was so young and nervous but obvs they couldn't.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/02/2023 23:48

I hear they are bringing back Gladiators
