The challenge I remember was car lights ie the back lights. He made an error and failed the challenge. I really hoped that they'd give him another chance as he was so young and nervous but obvs they couldn't.

That makes more sense than just the silhouettes! I've no idea why I ever think about that, but it pops into my mind every now and then.

TrickorTreacle · 22/02/2023 23:53

I didn't know that Blind Date carried on as late as year 2000, but it was classic as a 90s show.

Saturday night TV was great. Alongside Blind Date, there was Noel's House Party, Gladiators and Casualty. Slots from around 7PM-9PM. You had to be careful with Casualty though. It was a great drama, I give it 10/10, but it was also depressing because of the real life nature of the show and what injuries people could sustain if they were unfortunate.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 22/02/2023 23:54

Noel's House Party was the worst TV show ever made.

Noel was a cunt and Blobby was a cunt.

I hear they are bringing back Gladiators

With all the old gladiators? 😁 Presented by Ulrika?

WeAreAllLionesses · 22/02/2023 23:55

Even just seeing the title of this thread has given me the theme music ear worm😂

It was great. You couldn't have it now because it would be all about sex

And people trying to make themselves famous.

They just can't make shows like this anymore. I was a young teen in the 90s and Saturday nights were just fab - family fortunes, Blind Date, Gladiators, You Bet, Stars in their Eyes!

They can and they do. It's why I started going out every Saturday and never stopped 😁

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 22/02/2023 23:57

@uhOhOP

I'd love it if they still had Wolf and the Scottish umpire

I'm sure Cilla was as lovely on the show as she was in real life, according to all the reports you hear of her....

There's a programme on ITV called Starstruck, where you have not one but three people dressed up like a pop star and trying to sing like them. It's quite surreal. In the last one, I got annoyed at some of the male contestants giving cryptic clues about the pop star they were going to be - and saying 'they', which had me shouting at the telly "Well, it's obviously going to be a he, isn't it?!" - and it turned out to be Sam Smith, so what do I know....?

I'd love to see You Bet rebooted - but possibly without the superfluous panel of celebs warbling on. I know TV studios are big, but that one must have been ginormous, when you had somebody identifying 20 individual models of fire engine out of a potential 200 different ones, picked at random, and they were all parked up there in a tiny corner!!

I used to love a gameshow called Take It Or Leave It, hosted by Richard Arnold about 15 or so years ago. I think it was made by Telewest/Flextech/Virgin TV (or whatever it became), so they might have had rights issues; but it was a cracking show. It would be great to see that again.

dontputitthere · 23/02/2023 00:00

Worked on it

Cilla was loathed by everyone.

My mate described her as the devil in a trouser suit

The destinations were pre determined. They had help with writing the 'witty' shit

But oh god Cilla was a nightmare.

The absolute best episode of Blind Date was when there was a very straight laced type fella, I think he may have worn a brown suit and he was serious and he ended up with an almost hysterically giggly woman who may or may not have worn a lurid pink tutu, I always thought they'd be a smashing couple. Can't find the episode anywhere, grr

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/02/2023 00:05

Remember the episode of Blind Date when they discovered that the female contestant was a journalist (who was engaged) - and they let it go ahead but then Cilla completely meangirled her relentlessly in the post-holiday interview?!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/02/2023 00:06

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

I remember that one! Was she already married even? If not Cilla certainly acted like she'd just attempted bigamy

While on the topic of older tv programmes can anyone remember the moment of truth, i think it was called. Family member used to get a challenge like remember all 500 kids names in a school and if they did it would win a prize. The few people ive mentioned it to look at me like ive grown another head.

Yes! I remember one where someone had to pull a tablecloth off without disturbing the plates and glasses on top 😄

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/02/2023 00:08

I may be remembering wrongly, but I'm pretty sure she had a fiance, not a husband. Who knows: she could have discovered that he'd been sleeping around and decided to shame him by 'replacing' him on live TV?!

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 23/02/2023 00:08

"Hello number 1. What's ya name and whats do ya come from?"

"Hello Cilla, my name's Brian and I'm from Hull"

Grin
RicherThanYews · 23/02/2023 00:10

I remember moment of truth! Forgot the name for a while though. I saw the cowbells episode and there was one with water glasses or similar. They always went away with a consolation prize iirc?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/02/2023 00:10

On Moment Of Truth though it was quite cruel because they had all the presents behind a wall and the kids got to run to them if Mum or Dad won and had to Sadface at what they didn't win

I'm sure it ended because there were complaints it was cruel!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/02/2023 00:10

Journalist rumbled on Blind Date - the man she had a date with could have gone on Stars In Their Eyes as Jake Thackray Grin

RicherThanYews · 23/02/2023 00:11

@MillicentTrilbyHiggins lmfao I remember Brian from Hull, didn't he choose Yoni from crouch end?

Wasn't Brian from Hull more interested in something around the crotch end? Grin
