I found this dress totally unacceptable

Would you wear this out to a restaurant? Wearing nothing underneath but nipple covers and thong?

just to be clear…this is an open all day brunch/lunch then tapas burgers kinda place. family friendly, kids menu crayons ect. Not an evening or drinks venue.

I was completely taken a back as to why anyone would think it’s appropriate to wear that to a kid friendly restaurant

couldn’t find a link to the actual dress but it’s very similar to this Kylie Jenner one.

AIBU here?!

detail missing incase it’s outing!

I found this dress totally unacceptable

I don't think anyone's 'offended', we're just saying it's inappropriate for lunch in a family restaurant.

NatashaDancing · 22/02/2023 22:25

RealBecca · 22/02/2023 21:21

Why sexualise her though? At all. Yes its objectively tacky but leave her alone. We all wore terrible clothes as teens. Its just bad fashion. Even if you could see her vagina and breasts, so what? Dont your kids ever see yours? Surely it's not that shocking to anyone what is under the net?? Yes dear, it's a vagina.

We all get exposed to studd we dont want to see every day. Snag tights adverts come to mind.

Chill out.

Gosh aren't you the cool one.

Anyone wearing that dress is sexualising herself.

Not everyone goes around naked around their children and even if they do it's hardly the same situation is it.

The comment re Snag tights is ridiculous. You can shut down the advert- are you suggesting any one who doesn't want to see this leave the restaurant? Oh I suppose you probably are.

BadNomad · 22/02/2023 22:25

Yeah the only time you are allowed to expose yourself around other people is when you are breastfeeding. At any other time is a disgrace.

JocelynBurnell · 22/02/2023 22:26

I blame Cher - www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/02/awards-insider-the-making-of-chers-oscar-revenge-dress

The world went to pot in 1986!

Puffalicious · 22/02/2023 22:26

*And there are places to wear that sort of thing: nightclub - maybe, holiday -maybe (depending on where), bedroom - for sure, sex club - yep, red carpet - if you fancy, photoshoot - yep, etc etc.

There are places it's not really appropriate to wear it - funerals & weddings, office job, family restaurants, supermarket etc.*

Bang on.

Inkpotlover · 22/02/2023 22:26

Calm yourselves, it won’t have been that see-through IRL - pap camera lenses illuminate everything.

IneedcoffeeinanIV · 22/02/2023 22:26

Makes absolutely no difference to anyone so I don't get why people are so worked up about it. She's wearing a bra and underwear underneath it. If you were at the beach with your kids and someone was wearing a bikini would that be an issue? No, and that's probably more revealing than this outfit

This is NOT about the photo. Read the OP- this was a similar dress with a thong and nipple covers only. At lunchtime in a family restaurant- not Kylie Jenner in LA.

MaidOfSteel · 22/02/2023 22:29

Attention seeking. Not appropriate anywhere, unless you're a 'sleb.

Brokendaughter · 22/02/2023 22:29

I'd also be secretly filming for the moment a sticky toddler with cheese covered hands runs up to tell her they can see her knickers.

If worn to a nightclub/ over 18s place I wouldn't bat an eyelid although I think it looks a bit desperate rather than attractive.

It's very "Who knew you could dye net curtains?" & I'm fairly sure one of my older neighbours has that exact pattern in white on her windows.

hattie43 · 22/02/2023 22:29

That's about as cheap an outfit as I've seen . Totally inappropriate for daytime , nighttime anytime . Put it away love , gross.

NatashaDancing · 22/02/2023 22:30

Soontobe60 · 22/02/2023 22:21

Absolutely!

Same here. This person wants to be looked at. She looks ridiculous and it's inappropriate in this location. If a child points out they can see her knickers or that lady's not wearing knickers - tough.

fairywhale · 22/02/2023 22:30

The OP said the photo ISNT the person she saw. That person wore nipple shields, not a bra, and a thong.
Exhibitionism is a thing. Men expose their dicks in public for a sexual thrill. Many sex offenders start off as flashers. Wearing practically nothing in a public place other than a beach / swimming pool / nightclub. I’m guessing most people like to look ‘nice’ when they go out; wearing next to nothing is a whole different vibe though.
For those of you saying it’s fine, you’d have worn it if you were younger ‘ had a better body etc, can’t you see that you’re falling into the ageist / body shaming trap? If it’s ok to wear this in a family venue, then it’s ok for anyone to wear it - even your 15 stone granny!!!

RealBecca · 22/02/2023 22:34

Puffalicious · 22/02/2023 21:34

I'm very chilled, thanks. Not chilled enough to be cool, though.

It's inappropriate to have your vagina and tits out during the day in public. It just is. How would you feel if someone had their penis showing through mesh? Not so acceptable then is it?

I'm sick of the bloody MN 'We need to support women in every situation ' and 'It's just a body'. Newsflash- women get shit wrong, I don't need to support them in what I think is wrong just because they're a woman. It rips ma knitting, it really fucking does.

OP you have every right to not like it.

I'm.concerned by shit like this being so normalised that young lads I work with expect the young girls to have their tits all the time.

It's not appealing, I'll give you that. But tbh if I saw someone, anyone, wearing something this exposing at a brunch i think is still be more interested in where the nutella is.

Yes its attention seeking but isnt that sad? Young people wearing outlandish stuff is hardly a new thing. I think we are all just getting a bit old in our mentality. Teen you wouldnt have clutched your pearls at the inappropriateness, let them have their moment wearing a vag or penis net, one day they will look back and think it's a bit embarrassing. No real harm done.

Bernadinetta · 22/02/2023 22:35

IDontWantToBeAPie · 22/02/2023 21:12

I wouldn't but I'm not a celebrity. Pretty sure the restaurant doesn't care what she wears bc so many people will likely now go to it because she went there.

Plus, it's California. Nobody blinks there when celebs wear something weird especially a Jenner

Think you’ve misunderstood the OP.
The pic of Kylie Jenner is to illustrate the type of outfit that was seen. The outfit was not seen on a celeb nor in LA, but on a normal member of the public at a family friendly burger joint at lunchtime.

NatashaDancing · 22/02/2023 22:37

Redebs · 22/02/2023 21:31

Yes. It's tacky and inappropriate

It's very tacky and inappropriate. I'm amused by all the cool girls on here falling over themselves trying to be cool.

Bernadinetta · 22/02/2023 22:37

JocelynBurnell · 22/02/2023 22:26

But Cher wore that to the Oscars, not to a Wimpey burger bar at 12.30pm on a Wednesday in Reading (or wherever the OP is).

MeinKraft · 22/02/2023 22:38

RealBecca · 22/02/2023 21:17

"Wont somebody PLEASE think of the children!!" 😂

People trot out this old trope as if it's still funny, and that's fine but realistically kids shouldn't be exposed to random peoples tits and arses when they're just going for dinner 🤷🏻‍♀️

mathanxiety · 22/02/2023 22:38

Grin Grin Grin

mathanxiety · 22/02/2023 22:39

There's no accounting for taste, OP.

singer15 · 22/02/2023 22:41

I wouldn't, and I would judge anyone who did. It's not appropriate for the setting.

Honestly, I don't think it's actually "appropriate" for anywhere outside one's home, but certainly not a restaurant where people are trying to enjoy a meal, possibly with children in attendance. It's rather pathetically "everyone, look at ME!!".

RealBecca · 22/02/2023 22:41

NatashaDancing · 22/02/2023 22:25

I think people in the restaurant need to get over themselves. All of the people complaining are probably women (case in point, bet there are no Dadsnet threads about the shocking effect this dress could have on their poor children).

Wonder why that is.

Women can wear what they want...as long as its approved by other women by the sounds of it.

My personal thoughts would be "gosh, isnt it a bit sad that she thinks dressing this way is sexy and she needs to feel sexy at an audience scale to feel worth something at lunchtime".

I would then wonder what i was going to order and get on with my day. Much the way I've had to get on with my day if I've been catcalled or the eggs are off the menu or the train is late. It's a non event in my life and certainly not something I'd leave a restaurant over with my kids in tow. Its really not a big deal.

Bikini or even less is fine at the beach. Not fine at a restaurant hence signs telling you to put shoes and shirt on.

I am the first person to say wear nothing but it’s the sexualisation that does my head in; thongs, bottom hanging out of knickers etc. Interestingly men seemed to have stopped the open shirt, groin enhancing jeans look ( although Miles on Made in Chelsea is trying hard to bring it back)

I don’t mind outrageous either but keep it for where attention seeking is the point.

It's just tits and an arse. We all have them. It's a total non event.
