Good morning. I am an idiot.

I have a godson whose mother is lovely but very religious and a bit uptight. It’s his 9th birthday today. Long story short I placed an Amazon order to be delivered to their house, and he’s just opened it and it turns out that alongside the nice gifts I sent him, I accidentally included something else that was in my basket….

His dad (my friend) has just rung me howling with laughter, but the wife is apparently not at all amused.

I know AIBU but this is a public service announcement to double check your basket when you’re sending things to someone else.

Jesus.

It could have been so much worse. She just needs to have quickly hidden it and replaces it with something else. If she had a sense of humour she would have ferretted it away until he is 14ish.

Unfortunately it sounds like it was more a show and tell type present opening situation so they all saw it. Grandparents, mum, and a younger sibling who asked what it meant.

True.
My dsis is a nun and she has a much better sense of humour than dh’s brother whom the wanker wrapper would suit perfectly. 😂

My great aunt is a nun and she’s also got a brilliant dark sense of humour. Seems like nothing more than bigotry and bitchiness to try and bring religion into it (especially as a supposed godparent). If OP intends to use being religious as an insult then why did she accept the position?

RosesAndHellebores · 22/02/2023 11:43

With a little therapy they will all come to terms with it.

Mañanarama · 22/02/2023 11:43

She replied “it’s fine”. No kisses.

Clearly it is not fine.

Oh OP, someone was a bit mean to me earlier and I was quite upset but you've really cheered me up. Thank you OP

And a completely secular 'god bless you' too 🤣🤣

Do you want me to send you a wanker wrapper for the mean person? Also available in dickhead, bellend or cockwomble.

Oh bless you. But as grim as she thinks it is, it WAS an innocent mistake on your part. It's not as if you deliberately ordered it for the child "as a joke". It was an error that could have happened to anyone. All you can really do is explain and apologise, which you have already done. Please don't beat yourself up too much. x

Mañanarama · 22/02/2023 11:57

Follow up reply from her “why would you even have had that in your basket?” (still no kisses)

Erm.. do I confess it was a possible valentines gift for my husband? Not sure that will help the situation at all.

Too funny!! Although I thought it may be a sex toy...

cstaff · 22/02/2023 12:13

Oh OP this is funny AF and the fact that she is a bit uptight just makes it even more hilarious.

I am trying not to laugh out loud in work 😂

Teaandtoast3 · 22/02/2023 12:17

Yes, tell her it was supposed to be for Valentine’s Day for your other half 😂 please

MelonFarmer · 22/02/2023 12:26

Outstanding.
I combined a Twix and Kit Kat wrapper once and put it in DH's lunch box. Must do it again actually.....heads off to amazon

Anyway, kid is 9, will be hugely amused and you are now cool Godmum. Cant see the problem.

FlamingoQueen · 22/02/2023 12:29

Awesome! Made me laugh out loud. Perhaps the wife was embarrassed because her parents were there. I expect when your friend gets home tonight, they’ll see the funny side. (I did think you were going to say an adult ‘toy’ so was relieved just to see the choc).

She usually sends photos of him opening his presents but they are not forthcoming as of yet.

Of course, tell the truth. What lie would you make up anyway - who else would you be buying that for?!

She was probably unconscious on the floor, having to be revived with smelling salts and a copy of the Old Testament.

Just say it was an unfortunate mistake and let her wonder whether it was your mistake or Amazon's.

I love @MelonFarmer's wrapper combo 😀

AllOfThemWitches · 22/02/2023 12:35

Just tell her you have no idea, it was obviously a mistake. Too late now, but I would definitely have taken the moral low ground/coward's way out and blamed it on Amazon, acting all indignant, telling her I was complaining and demanding compensation, etc. etc. 😂

I can think of a few friends who’d appreciate the sentiment, in fact I might order some more. Best change delivery back to my own address first.

I bottled it though and weakly replied that I have no idea how that got in there. Poor.
