Inappropriate gift sent to child.

Good morning. I am an idiot.

I have a godson whose mother is lovely but very religious and a bit uptight. It’s his 9th birthday today. Long story short I placed an Amazon order to be delivered to their house, and he’s just opened it and it turns out that alongside the nice gifts I sent him, I accidentally included something else that was in my basket….

His dad (my friend) has just rung me howling with laughter, but the wife is apparently not at all amused.

I know AIBU but this is a public service announcement to double check your basket when you’re sending things to someone else.

I thought you were going to say it was a massive dildo or something, but that is just funny.

Suggest perhaps sending an apology card and chocolate to mum, definitely not Wanker chocolate though!

I’m hoping she sees the funny side eventually but the even more uptight grandparents are there for the occasion which has made things worse.

The dad is at work and got an irate phone call, he thinks it’s hilarious but will have to stop laughing before he gets home 😂

We get on fine on the odd occasions we meet up when I am always on my best behaviour. I won’t lie, it’s a mystery to me how they ended up together, she is extremely sensible and would never swear in a million years. I think it took some persuading that I would be a good role model.

...though it reminded me of the large "setting myself up in my new home after escaping from an abusive relationship" Amazon order that I got delivered back at the abusive person's house as I forgot to change my delivery address to the new place. That wasn't pleasant to resolve.

It could have been so much worse. She just needs to have quickly hidden it and replaces it with something else. If she had a sense of humour she would have ferretted it away until he is 14ish.
