Is it just me? Or is anyone else sick of hearing the class divide thing mentioned on here?
As soon as someone mentions disciplining children, supermarkets , etc, it turns into a big class debate!

Why?

Why, in this day and age, when there is such a MASSIVE range of people no living in the UK, do we still give a flying toot about peoples class?

I agee mumz it really is pathetic.

2shoes · 09/02/2008 12:03

the funny thing is in rl i mix with all kinds. and no one has ever mentioned class. i think it is a way of people on here trying to get one up on some one else.

2shoes · 09/02/2008 12:04

wow we are in a class of our own as we all have a "2"

alfiesbabe · 09/02/2008 12:04

It's pointless and meaningless. What does 'middle class' and 'working class' mean? I work full time as a professional, as does DH, we are both state educated, we own property and have a good but not excessive income..... Who the hell knows what we are and tbh who cares??

WideWebWitch · 09/02/2008 12:06

Because if you're English or British then class does have an effect. And is relevant some of the time. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing but I think it's reality.

wb · 09/02/2008 12:06

YANBU

The British are still v. class obsessed. I was born here but of foreign parents so seem to have missed a lot of of the 'training' you need to take it seriously. Instead they, and I, find it rather bizarre

2sugars · 09/02/2008 12:06

I refuse to talk to anyone on MN whose name isn't prefixed by a '2'. Just joking!!!

mumzyof2 · 09/02/2008 12:06

Exactly, 2Shoes.
I never think about it in rl. It wouldnt cross my mind. But its on here every day lately.
When I walk into Tesco, I dont look around me, hoping no to be mugged by the utter scum in there - which is how that shop is being portryed!

I don't know what you mean when you say "the class card" but I'm only here at weekends and some evengings so masy have missed something

wb · 09/02/2008 12:07

'they' being my parents.

hercules1 · 09/02/2008 12:07

I despise the use of the word 'chav' but rarely get anyone agreeing with me.

mumzyof2 · 09/02/2008 12:07

Of course, Im in the process of setting up a chat room for us impotant '2' mners!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 09/02/2008 12:08

Herc, me too but I have often been shouted down on it

2shoes · 09/02/2008 12:09

www you don't have to worry as you have class.

hercules1 · 09/02/2008 12:09

Yes, that happens everytime someone objects to it's use.

Snaf · 09/02/2008 12:09

It's getting increasingly dull, I agree. But I also think it's unavoidable. Obsession with class is an Engliah Disease, and the mere fact that you've started this thread (even though it's to say you don't give a toss) proves the point

stoppinattwo · 09/02/2008 12:10

i think it is easy to be what you want to be on MN so i wouldnt pay too much attention mumzyof2........most of the posers are probably lying through their arses

does it have to be a 2 or wil two do???

2shoes · 09/02/2008 12:11

hellp stoppy yes a two will do

I'm middle class
my parents were from working class backgrounds but definitely became middle class according to any definition of class

I do find the whole class thing interesting. My mum's family were working class poor, they grew up in a council house, had 3 girls and 2 of them are def now middle class (my mum and 1 of her sisters) and the other isn't, she is working class and would describe herself as such.

Hey, some definitions say that if you're remotely interested in what class you are that makes you middle/lower middle. Although I'm not partic interested in what class I am, I am aware of it.

WideWebWitch · 09/02/2008 12:14

ha ha Snaf, true, true. If you didn't care at all you really wouldn't have started the thread!
