to be sick of hearing the 'CLASS' card played on mn?

mumzyof2 · 09/02/2008 11:56

Is it just me? Or is anyone else sick of hearing the class divide thing mentioned on here?
As soon as someone mentions disciplining children, supermarkets , etc, it turns into a big class debate!

Why?

Why, in this day and age, when there is such a MASSIVE range of people no living in the UK, do we still give a flying toot about peoples class?

Desi, that does sound worrying.... we have had long term issues with ms...and well, it can be diificult....maybe take the "pressure" of, and just encourage him to sit on the loo twice a day (morning and nights) and see if the urges come back, iykwim...
What is the psychological reason, btw...what caused it...

Desiderata · 09/02/2008 23:30

Well, he had a vomiting bug on Tuesday. No runny pooh, just sick. But of course, he's 3.3 now, and things take on more significance. He obviously remembered that the last time he had a bug (about six months ago), he also had the runs.

At the time, it didn't bother him, but the memory has obviously lingered. He's now very frightened of doing a runny pooh. He's not even drinking, because he doesn't want to wee, because if he wees, the pooh might come out at the same time.

So, he's hungry, he's dehydrated, he's knackered, and he's ill. And it's all in his head. He no longer has the virus. That went three days ago.

My robust little boy has disappeared before my very eyes, and I have no idea why, beyond being sick on Tuesday.

JeremyVile · 09/02/2008 23:32

Oh Desi, you poor little lad, and poor you, sounds tough.

Re the caps - no not stuck, just v v excited by the 12th hour arrival of cowturd.

JeremyVile · 09/02/2008 23:34

12th...11th... cant remember.

Deis - really, that's so, so sad. Have you been to a Dr?

3andnomore · 09/02/2008 23:37

awww...desi, your poor little one...I hope he can get over this asap...I hope he will produce a nice normal poo that reassures him, iykwim

Desiderata · 09/02/2008 23:40

The 12th hour arrival of cowturd

You fucking crease me, girl [girl] Do you know, I love 3andnomore. It struck me just now that when we had that thread last week about intriguing MNers, I forgot to mention her. And I should have done, because she's ace.

You're ace !!!!!

Any how, no doc as yet. This is head trouble. His stools are soft and easy. But my God, he looks ill at the moment. I'm going to have to take him, aren't I? I think he's the sort of kid who would respond to a GP telling him that he must pooh for his own health.

God knows, he's not listening to me

Desiderata · 09/02/2008 23:41

.. and I meant not [girl].

It's been a long day!

3andnomore · 09/02/2008 23:44

aww. desi, why thank you! I think that would be the first time I would be nominated...

You have helped me, even when you didn't realise it (like was under namechange)...whilst of course, on other things we completely disagree....lol....just life that is, isn't it! But you do have fierce protecters around mn....

JeremyVile · 09/02/2008 23:45

Yes - go to the Dr, a little bit of outside perspective might be just the thing.
Relly hope it gets sorted soon - if this was my DS I'd be gutted. I feel for you, I really do.

JeremyVile · 09/02/2008 23:46

Oh god...not gutted like it's the end of the world (hardly helpful, am I?) I just mean to see DS like that would be gutting.

Desiderata · 09/02/2008 23:52

As I protect others, 3andnomore

JV, I will go. And yes, I am gutted. It's horrible to see him so wan when I know that the cause is psychological. You don't feel guilty when your kid picks up a bug, but you do when he picks up a notion.

Ah well, there are millions of mums out there with far bigger troubles. I'm away to my bed, and a rather good Steven King

3andnomore · 10/02/2008 00:05

but, in this case there isn't anything you could have done to avoid it or anything...it was a physical thing that caused it in the first place, iykwim...it wasn't like you shouted at him for doing a runny poo in his pants or anything...he had a runny poo (he disliked to have) when he had a bug...

duchesse · 10/02/2008 07:43

Desi, sorry for leaping in here late, and you have probably tried this, but do think this is a situation in which bribery might work? Is he at a reasonable enough age where you can bribe him with the prospect of something he's been really hankering after? Or failing that, small regular bribes for poos in suitable places. Sorry if you have tried everything already including this, but it sounds very worrying for you.

Aitch · 10/02/2008 10:10

poor you and ds, desi, i hope an authority figure combined with bribery and corruption do the trick. poor wee lad, it is v humiliating and frightening having a runny bum, i'm not surprised he's processing that as a 'must avoid'.

Judy1234 · 10/02/2008 10:26

I don't like the way people use the word chav. If you substituted black you'd see why it's objectionable.

Aitch · 10/02/2008 10:28

chav is revolting, i agree. it's calculated to offend.

needmorecoffee · 10/02/2008 10:29

My eldest uses the word Cahv but to be honest, what is a chav?

hecate · 10/02/2008 10:34

Can I just go on record as saying I don't give a flying fuck about any of you? Where you shop, what you wear, what you call your kids, whether or not you breastfed...

I just want to chat to you

(or not, if you're a twat)

And I very much suspect that the majority of posters are quite like me in that!

amen again, hecate. i just want to talk shite with people. hariy-handed truckers, princesses, whoever. if they're up for talking about nothing in particular i'm their gal.

lovecat · 10/02/2008 11:11

It cuts both ways on MN - I've never said anything the least bit offensive about the so-called 'lower-classes' (probably because I'm a member ) but I was accused of 'middle-class wank' by someone here with one of my first posts because I was asking an honest question about reading ages. Nearly put me off the whole damn thing, I can tell you...

Desi, when dd had a vomiting bug she too had a psychological hangover when she recovered - kept saying she was ill, was going to be sick, didn't want to eat in case she was sick - she did get over it, but what helped while she was going through this was me saying that if she felt sick she should have a sip of water as that would make her feel better - it gave her a bit of a crutch to lean on til she resolved things in her head, iyswim. Not sure if that's at all helpful in your case, but it might be... hope you do find an answer

Judy1234 · 10/02/2008 11:38

And it does work the other way too. All this criticism that radio 4 is too middle class. Well don't listen if you don't like it. No one forces it on anyone.

Desiderata · 10/02/2008 12:10

Hey Thanks Duchesse, Aitch, Lapin & Lovecat. Thanks for your support. No change, I'm afraid. Bribery has never worked with him. I think he'd be good in law enforcement ...
