Our tumble dryer packed up so me and hubs made a dash to the launderette stuck our clothes on 45 minutes, left thinking nothing really of it we went to do some shopping that took around 50 to find someone had removed all our washing from the tumble dryer?!!

What! We wernt running massively over time and this launderette is not overly even use, It wasn’t even fully dried could of done with maybe ten more minutes! The only thing I can think of is us using “the big tumble dryer” but would you seriously remove anyones clothes at the launderette?!??

Maybe it’s been a while for me but it wouldn’t really enter my mind to touch anyone else’s stuff!

How was anyone to know when you would be back?
They may know how long you've been gone, and they may know how long your washing has sat in the dryer after the cycle has finished.
But the ONLY person who knew when you would be back... was you.

OP had clearly run out of the minerals of their brain, otherwise would have figured that one out.

Peachy2005 · 18/02/2023 17:28

Off topic but you really shouldn’t tumble dry your underwear - if you want them to last 😆

I do this as I lived in flats once that had washers and dryers for communal use and this is what everyone did for each other.

Around twenty tenants.

No one took the piss and removed wet or damp washing but did remove dry washing so as to use the dryer etc. everyone was very considerate and would even transfer wet washing to the dryer for each other to free up machines.

Yes same, I wouldn’t remove it if the cycle isn’t complete, but if people leave their laundry basket in front of their dryers ( which you’d assume is clean, given they were planning on using it), I mean no one is interested in whatever’s in your laundry.

The problematic ones I find are those that don’t leave any basket or bag or anything, I wouldn’t throw your clean clothes on the floor, I’d just complain really.

If it’s a public one it’s worse though, how are people supposed to know when you’ll be back ? Are they supposed to do back and forths waiting for you or pay more because you’re late ? If you know you’re going to be a little late, just leave a little post it, most wouldn’t mind.

And again the stealing

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 17:30

Lol how comical just goes to show you can admit you abu yet you will till be crucified lol

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 18/02/2023 17:32

This is akin to “I went to Aldi for my shopping for the first time, and they just threw the shopping at me, I didn’t have time to pack it”

in my launderette the lovely lady who staffs it, goes round asking those washing whether they need the dryers and gives priority to them over drying customers only. I only every take my big bed spread which I dry over the bannister so just need a large load washer.

it’s so common to empty a dryer without an owner. Also, I bet you were longer than five minutes over.

MalteserGeezee · 18/02/2023 17:32

In my experience, most people using a launderette are a little tight on budget. So it's 100% the logical, economical, savvy course of action to use the drier that has already warmed up. It will likely dry your clothes quicker for a few pennies less, and those pennies really matter to folks. So yes, YABU.

Stravaig · 18/02/2023 17:35

'little outfit' 🤣

Be warned, OP, sometimes things get stolen too. Don't give someone time to rummage through your laundry and cherry-pick the items they like best.

Suedomin · 18/02/2023 17:37

Because why would anyone touch anyone else’s washing maybe that

As it had just been in the machine presumably it was clean? I don't understand why it would be an issue

Godlovesall26 · 18/02/2023 17:38

soboredtonight · 18/02/2023 17:24

@Godlovesall26 I just followed others example in this case.

Sorry I didn’t understand (not a native speaker) did you mean transferring to a tumble dryer for when people would show up ( fair game, especially when people know each other and it’s actually in a close communal area) ?

Ive done that as well when communal.

But when it’s public and you’re not necessarily from close by, and there’s nowhere to put the stuff, well I’d probably use the same approach, but don’t expect people to complain about it ? I’m hardly going to the laundry, like most people I’d imagine, with filthy hands I’d imagine

It’s ok when it’s not a system you’re not used to, don’t worry.
But it’s ok also for threads to lead to people sharing their experiences, which can help each other, try not to take it personally, it’s a natural evolution of mutual help threads

Godlovesall26 · 18/02/2023 17:43

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 16:00

Well no I wouldn’t leave my towels down on holiday and expect for my places to be there completely different if people had 8 free dryers I think it’s a bit different

I think the issue here is that OP chose the biggest one, so cheaper one

Lysianthus · 18/02/2023 17:47

Babe. I'm sorry about your washing. But you are shouting and ranting at the wrong audience. You should 'have' shouted at the people in the laundrette! If it was only 5 minutes, then presumably the people who stole your machine were still loitering?
Anyway, you might get a better response on Facebook.

wishingitwasfriday · 18/02/2023 17:51

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:55

I don’t get how it was a nuisance when they had other options to dry there clothing? I didn’t leave them all out of options lol

So why didn't you use a small dryer, knowing that you wouldn't be staying at the laundrette and that you might be back a bit late. That way you wouldn't have inconvenienced anyone else and no one would have touched your washing.

Justmeandthedog1 · 18/02/2023 17:52

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 15:23

It was literally minutes though not hours! And the launderette was empty pretty much?! There was other dryers to use.

But someone waiting for that dryer didn’t know if you’d be 5 minutes or 50.
Staff might have moved your stuff, maybe since Covid they swish a disinfectant cloth around before the next person.
But they only moved your clothes —- no one tried them on 😊

wishingitwasfriday · 18/02/2023 17:54

Babsexxx · 18/02/2023 16:06

Actually I think your wrong it costs me a lot more to use a launderette just saying!

i wouldn’t make people wait hours that’s ridiculous and completely out of order!

i would be more understanding but 5 minutes I can’t really comprehend.

Had you left a sign on the dryer saying you'd be 5 mins late? No? Well, how was anyone to know that? Just accept that you are wrong on this occasion and use it as a learning opportunity. Next time be on time, stay at the laundrette or use a small machine rather than the only big one.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/02/2023 17:55

Never go on a cruise ship, OP; the angst this causes is legendary!! Grin

I've even seen ladies appoint themselves "launderette monitor" and sit there telling each visitor what they can and can't do, and precisely how much time is left on each machine ...

Exactly. Leave a post it or accept the consequences.
Most people really are also actually also aware that a launderette is more expensive, and maybe don’t wish to théorise on how long you’ll be late…
If you can yourself seemingly afford a washing machine point blank, and hopefully a fix, might be the the best way to go, if it’s a little hard to work with the fact that a lot of users will be struggling people with maybe a job to go to next. Wouldn’t we all like a washing machine and tumble dryer ?

FlibbertyGibbitt · 18/02/2023 18:00

Probs him Op

Crumpetdisappointment · 18/02/2023 18:01

i would sit and wait at the launderette

Crumpetdisappointment · 18/02/2023 18:02

everyone is busy,
people are in the launderette to wash and dry their clothes.

category12 · 18/02/2023 18:03

Nah, you're the weirdo, OP - you can't expect other people to have to wait once your time is finished. You should have been on time if you didn't want your stuff moved.

LondonJax · 18/02/2023 18:08

The last time we used a launderette @Babsexxx the attendant took the clothes out of the huge drier. Our DS was three at the time and had a vomiting bug. He'd got through every single duvet (not cover, duvet) in the house. We'd managed to wash them but needed to get them dry. The woman in the laundry unloaded the huge dryer, popped those on the side and DH got ours dry before the owner of the washing even appeared. Lucky he didn't sit around waiting for that person to come back. Some people just need the biggest dryer (our duvets wouldn't fit in anything else) and if your things are in it but finished they'll be moved. Normal practice.
