To give up on heels?

I have had a life long love affair with heels, tall, shiny, colours, kittens, courts and sky highs.
Roll forward to working from home since 2020 and now spend one day a week in my Central London office.
I have recently found a whole day in them excruciating and painful. just can't wear heels all day anymore! I have been lugging them about in a bag and do the train to office in trainers and any other walking!
Aibu - just keep lugging them about like the rest of us!
Yanbu- Join the revolution and here are some fabulous feel good but not horrid alternatives!

I have a long body and in flats feel like my ass is too low and legs short. The heels balance me out. I have always worn them (in my 40s now) and not going to give up. I choose good brands so the are comfortable. I wear knee-high boots, ankle-high boots, court shoes, sandals - all wiling heels. Having said that, I do prefer block heels over stilettos, they are sturdier.

I find it weird and frankly not nice when women on this thread berate others for wearing heels for doing it for men's gaze and that the heels look outdated. What a ridiculous thought. Heels look stylish, they add a spring to the step - if you don't like them that's fine but it does not mean that others are stupid for wearing them.

Agreed. They can look great! There are certain dresses (mid-calf length) that I just wouldn’t wear without heels. There are others, eg quite short dresses and skirts, that I would only wear with flats. It’s about the overall shape.

Judging from this thread, it seems to me that there might be a real difference in how people cope with heels. I’ve definitely had the odd bad experience- a cripplingly uncomfortable pair of high heeled sandals I bought for a wedding once, for example. But in general I find reasonable, good-quality smart high heels absolutely fine to walk in. The strength of feeling on this thread leads me to believe that some women have never found a comfy pair of heels 🤷‍♀️

Oh for sure, if I was Monica Bellucci and therefore short, rich and my living depended on looking papparazzi-worthy in public, I'd wear them on a night out. Not those particular Louboutins though because they look like a broken ankle waiting to happen.

But I think my own somewhat more modest and mundane life can continue happily without heels in it.

Absolutely,. I rarely wear them myself either, but let's not kid ourselves that they're going away. They look great and let's face it, unless you are very tall, you just can't look glamorous in flat shoes. I get not everyone wants to be glamorous, certainly not 24/7 but there will always be plenty of women that do.

I can’t wear any type of heel. The way my foot has to bend between the main foot and the joints where the toes begin makes it really painful. It’s a really sharp intense pain. We are not talking high -even two inches will cause it, sometimes one inch.

I just dont think they look good,

I mean in a visual sense not some thing about people wearing them and their reasons I just mean as an item

I don't either. Sometimes I'll see an outfit I like in a picture online and if I scroll down and there are stillies at the bottom of it it really ruins it for me.

Different strokes for different folks and all that… It’s just a personal preference in the end.

I don't think I could give heels up, fell in love with my cousins red patent flat ones around age 7, then her older sisters gold stilettos around age 9. It's been my love affair ever since 💫💞
