Thoughts?

OP can I ask, do you think NS ever had any interest in, or knowledge of, gender politics, or was it all a ploy to cause division with Westminster?

Blessedwithsunshine · 15/02/2023 10:41

Frabbits · 15/02/2023 10:36

Well, no.

You can see someone as being a good politician (which I would argue Sturgeon is) and still disagree with her politics (which I do).

Compared to people like Johnson, Truss etc who are shit politicians implementing shit policies. Given the choice between the absolute bampots in the UK government I would take the SNP in a heartbeat.

I am wondering WHO does support Nicola Sturgeon’s politics on gender in Scotland exactly? Apart from rapists and some of the 1% of the population with gender incongruence?

It is extremely hard to see why Sturgeon was so welded to a minority view that put so many vulnerable women in danger? What possible reason can there be?

donquixotedelamancha · 15/02/2023 10:41

Is the reason the financial investigation and its findings? Or the mishandling of transgender prisoners/rapists?

It's not going to be her pro-rapist policies. That hurt but she was canny enough to back pedal quickly.

I would imagine she knows something is coming, presumably the financial investigation.

Botw1 · 15/02/2023 10:42

@ismu

I don't know much about Jacinda but NS could have stuck up for women and avoided this.

It wasn't an impossible choice

But as I say I doubt its just that

Goldpaw · 15/02/2023 10:38

I've been thinking Angus Robertson.

He was excellent as leader in the House of Commons.

Dear god not Humza Useless

I'd be quite pleased with Angus Robertson.

The mess Sturgeon has gotten herself into is not an example of how everyone is being mean to her because she’s a women.

This feels like a distraction tactic to present Sturgeon as a poor victim. See also your concern for her health.

A lot of Scottish women feel betrayed by the (soon to be former) first feminist.

This. She is the architect of her own problems. I'm sad, as she had massive charisma as a leader, but as they say, power corrupts and sadly, I believe she's now as corrupt and out of touch as many other politicians.

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:43

Anyone in power for 8 years is going to finally annoy enough people. She should probably have stepped down earlier to avoid this.
She did fantastically well for a long time. I am concerned for her health because she said she wasn't going anywhere and if it's the so called financial scandal, again we seem to have immense double standards about this - Infosys? Also, it's been well publicised that she has recently started HRT, so who knows?

2bazookas · 15/02/2023 10:44

Botw1 · 15/02/2023 10:04

Wtf?

Really?!!

I did not expect that

Are you kidding? It was inevitable; she's made the most incredible mess over and over again on successive issies and never learned to listen. She's become a political millstone threatening to sink the SNP, so they've forced her out.

DdraigGoch · 15/02/2023 10:44

Frabbits · 15/02/2023 10:11

Regardless of what you think about her politics, the fact is she is head and fucking shoulders above any of the shower of shit running the uk government.

However, MN hates her mainly, it seems, because she is a woman in power.

Bollocks. MN doesn't like her because of her policies. Almost everything the SNP does is nuts.

donquixotedelamancha · 15/02/2023 10:44

I am wondering WHO does support Nicola Sturgeon’s politics on gender in Scotland exactly? Apart from rapists and some of the 1% of the population with gender incongruence?

I am sceptical that many trans people (waaay less than 1% of the population) support her using them as a political football. I think getting men in women's prisions/refuges etc is a shibboleth for a group that makes up a small proportion of the electorate but a large proportion of her core supporters.

Oblomov23 · 15/02/2023 10:44

@Frabbits

"However, MN hates her mainly, it seems, because she is a woman in power."

Oh purlease. This has nothing to do with her being a women. What a cheap stab.

Some of her views are odd. The gender is all a bit woke.

TheyHadGrace · 15/02/2023 10:45

Cheerio!

Plenty of time now for her to reflect on what a woman is.

hryllilegur · 15/02/2023 10:45

She’s not head and shoulders above any other politician.

shea demonstrated that she:

  • will not listen to her electorate
  • will put her obsession with independence above anything else
  • will not take responsibility for or address the many, very obviously failings of her government

Being a woman doesn’t excuse any of this. It’s not a witch hunt. Her performance has been abysmal.

The fact she’s very good at sounding like she’s brilliant and everything is great is not a good thing. Let’s not celebrate politicians for that.

smileladiesplease · 15/02/2023 10:45

Excellent

Waitwhat23 · 15/02/2023 10:45

EVHead · 15/02/2023 10:25

I’m very surprised by this! I thought she would see it through another independence referendum.

The way politics has been recently, I don’t know who the hell to vote for next time. What are the Scottish Lib Dems like these days?! 🤦🏽‍♀️

ACH and his 'I did it all for Beth'? Not great.

donquixotedelamancha · 15/02/2023 10:45

I've been thinking Angus Robertson. He was excellent as leader in the House of Commons.

My impression is that he's full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. I also thought he was right behind the self-ID push.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 15/02/2023 10:46

Wonderful, she’s banjaxed education up there, it was world class and now it’s a shitshow. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Aphrathestorm · 15/02/2023 10:46

No one mentioned the balmoral hotel yet?

feellikeanalien · 15/02/2023 10:46

All the Scottish parliament needs is some decent opposition now.

808Kate1 · 15/02/2023 10:47

topherman · 15/02/2023 10:08

I'm a supporter of Nicola, but she really, really messed up with the gender reform bill unfortunately.

Agreed. She's been head and shoulders above any other politician in recent memory, truly remarkable in fact, but she's screwed up recently, massively.

And anyone crying for Alex Salmond to come back - you've been fooled into thinking he's supporter of women's rights.

WestwardHo1 · 15/02/2023 10:47

Excellent news.

mynameisnotkate · 15/02/2023 10:48

TheKeatingFive · 15/02/2023 10:41

but the gender wars aren't the fault of Jacinda or Nicola, they are an impossible conundrum which it's very convenient to use to bring down women

What nonsense. There's no 'impossible conundrum' if you value truth, facts and the rights of women. Sturgeon chose not to do that.

I don’t agree with this. If you want to be electable, it has been an impossible position. Whatever you personally believe, at least until recently coming out as GC would end you political career (at least until the wind change).

MajorCarolDanvers · 15/02/2023 10:48

Cheerio, cheerio, cheerio.

A happy day.
