No idea who will take over - just pure speculation at this point.

Brilliant news!

Frabbits · 15/02/2023 10:11

Regardless of what you think about her politics, the fact is she is head and fucking shoulders above any of the shower of shit running the uk government.

However, MN hates her mainly, it seems, because she is a woman in power.

Is Alex coming back?? If so he has voiced strong views about the safety of women’s spaces.

There are at least nine women who have a particular view on Alex Salmond's 'strong views' on women's spaces.

Looks like you haven't been paying much attention to her performance over the last few months.

Butchyrestingface · 15/02/2023 10:13

Time for Bridge of Allan to gird its loin. Someone's gonna have a lot more free time now. Grin

mynameisnotkate · 15/02/2023 10:13

Am amazed by this. The gender issue was clearly damaging but I did not expect such a sudden fall out so quickly. I think the financial stuff hasn’t helped but this sudden response is surely mostly her position on the gender issue and the huge public backlash to that.

Feel a bit sad as I think she’s been a strong leader in many ways and done a lot of good, but she massively misjudged and overreached on this issue. Quite likely an effect of having undisputed power for so long - she couldn’t believe that she needed to compromise and listen to people outside her little bubble. Often happens to leaders who’ve been in power a long time.

This is surely significant for the gender issue. Pushing a pro-trans agenda to the extent that it is obviously anti-women is becoming untenable. How will Keir respond?!

GoodChat · 15/02/2023 10:13

Fantastic news. There's clearly something big that's going to come out about her.

Compared to fucking Liz Truss et al?

Yep, I've been paying attention.

hryllilegur · 15/02/2023 10:15

my guess is that the financial
irregularities in SNP funding will be what has forced her hand.

The male murderers in women’s
prisons bullshit just reduces the number of people willing to make excuses for the dodgy activities of the SNP more generally.

I won’t be sad to see the back of wee Nicky Krankie but I don’t think her replacement is likely to be much of an improvement. Such is the pathetic mess of Scottish politics.

No way he’s coming back - too much damaging stuff has come out about him. Also do not believe he cares at all about women’s spaces - he (being a canny politician) had just identified an issue people care about and don’t agree with the SNP on - it’s a way to lure GC Indy votes.

Being less shit that liz truss is hardly a ringing endorsement. Is it?

Maybe Scotland should aspire to a decent first minister.

Ridiculous statement. If anything she is anti-women.She nailed her mast to the trans rights purely for votes and has now realised her big mistake…

Southstand · 15/02/2023 10:16

Fabulous news!

Pleasegodgotosleep · 15/02/2023 10:16

Waiting to see what big scandal is about go break, or am I just a cynic?

LibrariansGiveUsPower · 15/02/2023 10:17

Good! If she could take her buddy Drakeford with her we’d appreciate it.

hryllilegur · 15/02/2023 10:17

I’m not sure Alex Salmond is where I’d choose to turn to on the basis of women’s
rights.

I’m amazed anyone would even suggest it.

Whoopsmahoot · 15/02/2023 10:17

Delighted to hear it- shocking way to run a government. (Westminster not much better but…)

Nope.

There’s clearly something really bad about to come to light.

TrashyPanda · 15/02/2023 10:18

Glad to see the back of her.

last week, there were pictures of women protesting against the prisons policy outside the Parliament and holding placards that said “I told you so”.

allof this shit storm was entirely predictable. She has consistently ignored the fact that vulnerable women have been out at risk through her pig-headedness.

Blessedwithsunshine · 15/02/2023 10:19

I thought Nicola Sturgeon was a good leader, she communicated well - had steel and determination and she was a good role model most of the time.

The Gender Recognition Bill was her undoing, and because it was such a car crash strangely and inadvertently her resignation and legacy now means she is leaving women and girls in a much stronger and safer position.

No politician with any sense whatsoever will risk their glittering career attacking women’s rights again. This will be a lesson for all. I would personally like to thank her for that, as the mother of two girls. Sturgeon may not have intended to highlight our plight in such a spectacular and public way, but sending a transgender double rapist to a women’s prison really was the final straw, and showed the world the danger we are in collectively. So thank you Nicola for that.

Liz Truss is hardly the only woman prime minister/president/first minister we can choose to compare with.

Bellalalala · 15/02/2023 10:19

She played a dangerous game with the Gender reform bill. I don’t believe for a second she cared about trans people. But she was quite willing to damage women and try and shame them into shutting up for her own agenda. It back fired.

Though, I don’t believe that’s why she had gone. I think she would have gone a before this if it was just that.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/02/2023 10:19

I did not see that coming at all. It will be interesting to see who takes the reigns now and if we can stop with all the independence nonsense.

Careeradviceplease1234 · 15/02/2023 10:20

Absolutely thrilled but slightly anxious about who might replace her.
