I thought Nicola Sturgeon was a good leader, she communicated well - had steel and determination and she was a good role model most of the time.

The Gender Recognition Bill was her undoing, and because it was such a car crash strangely and inadvertently her resignation and legacy now means she is leaving women and girls in a much stronger and safer position.

No politician with any sense whatsoever will risk their glittering career attacking women’s rights again. This will be a lesson for all. I would personally like to thank her for that, as the mother of two girls. Sturgeon may not have intended to highlight our plight in such a spectacular and public way, but sending a transgender double rapist to a women’s prison really was the final straw, and showed the world the danger we are in collectively. So thank you Nicola for that.

Drakeford will.

Compared to fucking Liz Truss et al?

Liz Truss lasted a few weeks and has been gone for months. Not being as bad as the worst PM in history is the lowest of low bars.

HermioneWeasley · 15/02/2023 10:20

Nemesis follows hubris. We will see which of her many arrogances was ultimately her undoing.

Pleasecreateausername13 · 15/02/2023 10:20

Cheerio ya cow.

Dread who we get next.

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:20

I think it's really worrying. Jacinda Ardern, the female PM of Moldova and now Nicola, and of course Liz Truss ( no matter that she was horrendous, her policies are being revived already). Why are all these female politicians stepping back suddenly?
It's a literal witch hunt- every failure pinned directly on these women and the abuse they personally experience is unbelievable.
GRR was the final straw but don't forget EVERY party in the Parliament voted for it and the recommendation for the reform actually came from Theresa May's Conservatives in 2016.
I can't see any of the available replacements being any use at all, and the only likely woman is anti abortion on religious grounds , careful what you wish for.

hryllilegur · 15/02/2023 10:16

Being less shit that liz truss is hardly a ringing endorsement. Is it?

Maybe Scotland should aspire to a decent first minister.

Did you read what I said?

Because it seems you didn't.

emmathedilemma · 15/02/2023 10:21

Possibly the best news we've had in 3 years! I hate the woman so much.

HashtagShitShop · 15/02/2023 10:21

Bbc news from alexa is making a big point of it being "hastily organised"

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/02/2023 10:22

No sympathy for Sturgeon or Arden. Both responsible for witch hunts of their own against biological realists and normal people fighting to maintain the safety of women and children.

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:23

Also worried that her personal health may not be good, she has looked awful recently, so wait and see what's said

Blablablablaba · 15/02/2023 10:23

🎶 Ding dong the witch is dead 🎶

Best news I've heard this year! I never thought she wld resign for doing wrong, I'm actually surprised!

Is Alex coming back?? If so he has voiced strong views about the safety of women’s spaces.

what a comedian you (and he) are

I hope it's not health related

Baldieheid · 15/02/2023 10:24

Good. There wasn't really an alternative after her massive overreach with the GRC stuff and the money scandal.

I just hope whoever replaces her has less interest in protecting sex offenders, and a lot more interest in protecting their victims.

Hedjwitch · 15/02/2023 10:24

Not just GRR but incompetence, fraud and corruption on a massive scale

I'm no fan of Nicola Sturgeon but I agree with you

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/02/2023 10:25

hryllilegur · 15/02/2023 10:18

Nope.

There’s clearly something really bad about to come to light.

Possibly involving her husband and grubby financial doings based on her shit performance at that press conference last week. They’re shameful.

MaggieMagpie1 · 15/02/2023 10:25

While I’m glad she’s going, I really dread to think who we’re going to get in her place.

I don’t think it is the Gender Recognition Bill that’s caused it, although it certainly hasn’t helped. The reporting of a ‘hastily arranged’ news conference is interesting though. It does sound like something big is about to come out.

EVHead · 15/02/2023 10:25

I’m very surprised by this! I thought she would see it through another independence referendum.

The way politics has been recently, I don’t know who the hell to vote for next time. What are the Scottish Lib Dems like these days?! 🤦🏽‍♀️

containsnuts · 15/02/2023 10:26

But we knew she was going this year anyway. She already said she would go in October if she lost the referendum which it now looks like she will. I don't understand why her quitting is such an unexpected shock?

Botw1 · 15/02/2023 10:26

@ismu

I agree

The lack of decent female politicians or females in position of power is depressing as fuck.

We're getting no where

VaulterTech · 15/02/2023 10:28

I disagreed with nearly all of her politics, but I did feel she was a skilful politician and I’m sad she’s going for that reason. She was a great leader over covid. If she had different politics (i.e. what I agree with 🤣) she would be phenomenal.

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:28

@AnneLovesGilbert it's depressing to hear criticism of Jacinda, she was truly groundbreaking in so many ways.
She stood her ground against covid deniers but they mounted a campaign of hate against her in the end. So many people willing to throw good women under the bus for the sake of an argument about gender which has polarised us. If we step back from it it's surely possible to work out a compromise.
Who wins in the end? Right wing middle aged white men with an agenda that does not support women. They must be rubbing their hands in glee.

19lottie82 · 15/02/2023 10:28

However, MN hates her mainly, it
seems, because she is a woman in
power.

oh please 🤣🤣🤣

I hate her because she’s totally fucked up my country.

HowcanIgetoutofthisalive · 15/02/2023 10:28

Be interesting to see what the real reason is for her going. There must be a scandal about to break!
