There’s no compromise to be had on the safety of women and children. Those rights were hard won and these two politicians have happily tried or succeeded in tearing them up to pander precisely to middle aged white men claiming to be more marginalised than actual women and vulnerable children.

Regardless of what you think about her politics, the fact is she is head and fucking shoulders above any of the shower of shit running the uk government.

However, MN hates her mainly, it seems, because she is a woman in power.

Surely 'what you think about her politics' is absolutely key when talking about politicians?!

How can I agree she's head and shoulders above anyone else if I fundamentally disagree with her politics. Her politics are literally the only thing that matters....because, you know, she's a politician!

But we knew she was going this year anyway. She already said she would go in October if she lost the referendum which it now looks like she will. I don't understand why her quitting is such an unexpected shock?

But we weren’t having a referendum in Scotland in October.
People think she’s great because she is fantastic at lying convincingly. She makes people (Douglas Ross) doubt themselves when they pull her up on her lies.

Im sure she’s going because of the financial scandal rather than the GRR. She would have just sat out the GRR like she did the Alex Salmond investigations until everyone forgot about it.

WiIson · 15/02/2023 10:32

Good riddance.

bellylaughsalldaylong · 15/02/2023 10:33

Scottish person here and I’m DELIGHTED

maybe now she’ll have time to figure out what a woman is

Botw1 · 15/02/2023 10:33

Yeah I doubt it is just the rapists in female prisons

LoveMAFS · 15/02/2023 10:34

YIPPEE!

FadoFado · 15/02/2023 10:35

Poor ickle Douglas Ross.

hilbil21 · 15/02/2023 10:35

Scot in Scotland and absolutely over the moon Grin

TaylorZwift · 15/02/2023 10:36

Good. Excellent news for women and girls. I hope Starmer is paying attention.

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:36

You are entitled to your views @AnneLovesGilbert but the gender wars aren't the fault of Jacinda or Nicola, they are an impossible conundrum which it's very convenient to use to bring down women leaders when all else has failed. As women we are being marginalised out of power opponents are using this issue to divide and conquer. I think we need to open our eyes on this.

Well, no.

You can see someone as being a good politician (which I would argue Sturgeon is) and still disagree with her politics (which I do).

Compared to people like Johnson, Truss etc who are shit politicians implementing shit policies. Given the choice between the absolute bampots in the UK government I would take the SNP in a heartbeat.

FadoFado · 15/02/2023 10:23

what a comedian you (and he) are

Admittedly men like Alex are a very good example of why women and girls need protected single sex spaces.

His past actions have illustrated the issues some men can pose very clearly.

I really like her. She was a constant calmness during the covid crisis while Boris was dlip flopping all over the place.

I was reassured with her at the helm.

I agree I felt she explained everything much better than Boris.

I'm not Scottish though so probably my comments don't count.

Douglas Ross can barely pull up his shoelaces.

Angus Robertson or Humza Yousaf I would imagine.

I've been thinking Angus Robertson.

He was excellent as leader in the House of Commons.

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:39

@Frabbits poor wee Douglas, don't worry I'm sure Rishi has sent him a pair of those curly wurly ones Smile

weebarra · 15/02/2023 10:39

As a Scot, I'm glad. She has had her time. Her record on education is dreadful.
I think the GRC will also have angered a lot of SNP supporters.

The mess Sturgeon has gotten herself into is not an example of how everyone is being mean to her because she’s a women.

This feels like a distraction tactic to present Sturgeon as a poor victim. See also your concern for her health.

A lot of Scottish women feel betrayed by the (soon to be former) first feminist.

But what's the value in someone who is a 'good politician' (I'm really not sure that she is anymore, even if she once was) if you fundamentally disagree with their politics?

What does that mean? They're good at pushing through policies you disagree with?

What do you mean by 'good politician'?

Waitwhat23 · 15/02/2023 10:40

ismu · 15/02/2023 10:28

@AnneLovesGilbert it's depressing to hear criticism of Jacinda, she was truly groundbreaking in so many ways.
She stood her ground against covid deniers but they mounted a campaign of hate against her in the end. So many people willing to throw good women under the bus for the sake of an argument about gender which has polarised us. If we step back from it it's surely possible to work out a compromise.
Who wins in the end? Right wing middle aged white men with an agenda that does not support women. They must be rubbing their hands in glee.

It's hardly just the GRR Bill though, is it? Ferries, monies going missing, dubious loans, a widely panned bottle recycling system etc etc etc.

Lorna Slater already tried the whole right wing smears and was made to look rather a fool.

And compromise? Women tried to raise concerns and were told that they 'weren't valid' by NS. Recent revelations have shown them to be very much valid.

MiaMoor · 15/02/2023 10:40

Good.

I wonder if Kier Starmer and Wales will still blindly push on with gender bullshit.

TheKeatingFive · 15/02/2023 10:41

What nonsense. There's no 'impossible conundrum' if you value truth, facts and the rights of women. Sturgeon chose not to do that.
