So delighted maybe now instead of naval gazing about what constitutes a woman( and hint it isn’t someone who has raped before but decides to change his gender suddenly once his court date is set) we can now actually look at whats really important.
What a mess she has presided over for years, ambulances taking over an hour for emergency cases, hospitals totally overwhelmed, nurses and midwives leaving in droves. The state of the economy , the pot hole roads that make us look like some third world tin pot state. The reduction of our once valued education system.
Also hopefully in the future a change of govt where we can hopefully lose the grip and power of the greens ( really just the SNP greens) who hate cars and punish people just trying to get to work and keep services going, where there is no alternative but to drive.
All the millions squirrelled away for the Independence campaign,
I could go on, glad she’s gone and hopefully rest of SNP to follow.

@stonebrambleboy are you seriously questioning discrimination against older women on Mumsnet? Please do educate yourself about the effects of menopause and about the discrimination faced by women who've gone through it and are now perceived as old.

@tigger1001 all of these rules were under the control of public health advisers. It was a very different time and people did what they thought best. Getting rid of delayed discharge was seen as a fantastic achievement at the time as they genuinely thought the hospitals would be overwhelmed (see also the building of massive nightingale wards). No one had any idea how covid would pan out and Scottish politicians didn't spend 2020 enriching their pals with PP deals.
Stop rewriting history.

Our case rates and deaths after the initial spike were really low here until the restrictions were eased. That was a public health decision too.
Then they shot up 🤔

Best news ever! Am actually cheering. Hope her resignation is swiftly followed by being arrested for fraud

This in spades!

I used to really like her.

I thought she came across well in comparison to other politicians who lie and evade. I agreed with a lot of her politics.

However her handling of covid, terrible record on the NHS and education and now the grc have put me right off her

Doesn't bode well for who to vote for though

She's lied throughout.

Mumsnet loves to hate a powerful woman.

At least Mumsnet know what a woman is, something Nicola Sturgeon has difficulty defining

Happylittlechicken · 15/02/2023 18:07

@SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain how do you know Nichola is a woman?

GoodChat · 15/02/2023 18:07

Mumsnet loves to hate a powerful woman.

She's not powerful. She's a mouthpiece.

Ludo19 · 15/02/2023 18:07

I personally think she was shit over covid. She refused to sack her first health advisor who went TWICE to her holiday home. NS said she wasn't aware......my fuckin arse.

Donald Trump comes over and instead of meeting him goes to a Pride March and whatever views she had on Trump she could've met with him.

She has two that I know of super injunctions against the press. One regarding her sexual preference and the other her financial affairs.

Under her our health service has been destroyed as has our education and justice system.

Police Scotland is an absolute farce. As was the introduction of the emergency services also in GGaelicon the vehicles where a handful speak it in the central belt.

I hope she gets fuckin nailed for the money she's held back from the GP practices.

No I'm not sorry she's gone.

I'm not rewriting history. The cases here were higher than in England for some considerable time. That was when England relaxed their restrictions and we didn't. The case numbers here were not good in that period at all.

And that's when many started to question the level of restrictions here.

I don't think it's me who is rewriting history to be honest.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 15/02/2023 18:17

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Reeked of one rule for them, one rule for us.

As for the pandemic response in total, it's one thing praising her for March 2020 when restrictions really did have a lot of support and she could hardly have avoided implementing them with the rest of the UK locking down. But we're talking about someone whose administration felt moved to pass legislation making it illegal for Scottish people to go to Greater Manchester as late as summer 2021. There's really no way to describe that decision without using the word batshit. And there was too much stupid in the Scottish pandemic response in general, even if one approaches it from a broadly pro restrictions position.

tigger1001 · 15/02/2023 18:17

It's also just so convenient to say the rules were under the advice of her health advisors, when it's negative criticism but it was her rules when people were in favour.

Either she was in charge or she wasn't. The rules once we were in levels were just bizarre and made zero sense.

Ofcourseshecan · 15/02/2023 18:20

I’ve always wondered why she calls herself a feminist, when a lot of women will remember her for trying to abolish women’s single-sex spaces and services.

Unlamented.

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2023 18:27

Hbh17 · 15/02/2023 12:32

I still think that she ran with the gender stuff to force a confrontation with the UK Govt & then thought she could use that to push forward with independence. Even tho the GR Bill was not in her manifesto & is, seemingly, not supported by the majority of her electorate.
Then it all blew up on her face.
But from what I can see, she has failed on independence, on Covid (too many rules for too long) and on health & education.
The hints about financial issues are tantalising but, even without that, it was obvious that she had reached the end.

I think this too

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 15/02/2023 21:02

Queen Nicola has lost her crown,
I can’t say I feel down,
She put women in fear,
for that I am not shedding a tear.

Excellent question. How not surprising that there's been no response.

I know all about the menopause thank you very much as I've lived through it and held senior roles in the health service before I retired. It's people like you banging on about the negativity of menopause that puts women at a disadvantage in the workforce. Another stick to beat middle-aged women with. It's you that needs educating my dear.

OneEnchantedEvening · 15/02/2023 22:34

Whatever the silly sod says, she has sacrificed her career standing up for the rights of a double rapist. T'was the last straw.

Good Riddance and Fuck Off , Nicola-I send you no regards and hope you never ever ever have the brass neck to enter public life again.

Oh be quiet

OneEnchantedEvening · 15/02/2023 23:14

It would have suited Nicola better if she had been quiet before unleashing her mad views. Thank God she didn't have the sense to be quiet and splurged them out, thus letting the world and his wife know that she supported a rapist's rights over the rights of female prisoners.

So off she fucks and hopefully, the rest of her barmy army will follow. She is a lesson from which they should learn.

I hope JKR is cracking open the champagne this evening while Nicola weeps into her irn brew!

LongWhiteCar · 15/02/2023 23:29

Delighted she’s gone.
I hope that she and Peter Murrell are held to account.
The Green Party need to be held up to proper scrutiny also.

Years and years of opaque govt needs to be stripped away.
The whole Scottish Parliament needs to be reconstructed.
There is a total dearth of talent in Scottish politics.
Kate Forbes? The graduate trainee.
None of them have a clue.
Joanna Cherry is the only politician within the SNP with any credibility and the requisite experience and Sturgeon did everything she could to side line her.

Merrilydancing · 16/02/2023 07:22

I suspect that there is far more to this resignation than it seems and there is something big about to be uncovered.

Whilst I am no fan of her and what she has done to Scotland, she was still leading the most popular party who were likely to win the next election and despite a dip in her own popularity, was still a popular leader.

Given this, I am hugely suspicious of her departure as politicians who are in this position generally don’t go, hence there must be something else pushing her, most likely the financial irregularities but we will see.

WhenItIsRaining · 16/02/2023 09:37

Love Nicola Sturgeon. Very bright and personable politician.

I know...what an utter numpty!

’Be quiet’?? Like you’re somebody...You don’t get to silence me!

NO. We won’t be quiet. We will keep talking, keep shouting and keep being angry!
