Dog people who use the B word

DonnaBanana · 11/02/2023 11:21

I’m not into dogs myself but I often come across people who are and especially amongst the more breeder-y/training/“Dog life” people they seem to take pride in using the B word (that rhymes with pitch) as much as possible and it turns my stomach.

I know that female dogs are technically called that but they seem to endlessly use the word even in contexts where it’s not relevant to mention the sex of the dog. For example “oh yes I was training my B the other day and my B made a mistake so I didn’t give my B a treat” And I’m like please just stop, call it a dog or by its name. You are just trying to be offensive.

It’s such a shame such a horrible word is used for two reasons but AIBU.

OP posts:

Ewe Ram
Cow Bull
Bitch Dog

cant see the problem.
My dog is a dog because he’s male. My last one was female, therefore a bitch. It’s a statement of her sex not an insult.

Penguinduvetcover · 11/02/2023 15:35

Here’s my tuppence worth….

I have 3 bitches and 3 dogs, when talking about them, I refer to the girls as bitches . When entering shows, they are in the bitch class and have been lucky enough to be the best bitch! 🐾

i also have 2 very majestic cocks, if you get close enough they enjoy being stroked and will display for you . 🦚

Finally I have a very hairy pussy.

Gingernaut · 11/02/2023 15:37

They are using the correct word for the correct creature.

People who call women "bitch" are equating women to a subhuman creature who is unfriendly / has opposed them / won't date them / won't do as they're told.

Olive19741205 · 11/02/2023 15:41

I thought this was going to be about people who refer to their dogs as 'baby'.😆.

stayathomer · 11/02/2023 15:41

I’ve never heard anyone say this but if they were I’d think they were doing it for attention or because you gave them a reaction!! I’ll be honest, I’d be inwardly rolling my eyes!!

Dulra · 11/02/2023 15:41

I'm not a dog person far from it. My mil is and always used it to describe her dogs don't think it ever enters her head that it is also used in a derogatory term for women. It's more your problem if that's where your head goes when you hear it in relation to a dog

SwordToFlamethrower · 11/02/2023 15:43

My dad had a cute little dog and he used to use her sex as permission to swear at her.

"You're a little bitch aren't you?" Etc etc etc

He never swore except in this circumstance and it really pissed me off. So yeah.

The intent is everything.

MintyGreenDreams · 11/02/2023 15:46

My male dog is a total bitch

😂 Sorry this is hilarious

I'm glad you said that. I was feeling bad for laughing.

Upwiththelark76 · 11/02/2023 15:47

YABU but it has entertained me this afternoon to think someone somewhere gives thought to this

PurpleParrotfish · 11/02/2023 15:48

Lots of hilarity on this thread because the OP was bizarrely coy about even writing the word. But a question for those who are going on about it being a perfectly normal word - do you really use it all the time or just in certain contexts?

For example, office conversation "Can't wait for the lighter evenings, it's so much nicer walking my bitch"; "Would your toddler like to pat my bitch?" "I'm lucky as my bitch and my cat get on well."

I've always heard people heard the word 'dog' in all those sort of conversations with others who may or may not be dog owners. I'd assume that most people would only use the word bitch when both people in the conversation were particularly interested in the technicalities of dog ownership. And I'd also think that the question "Is that a dog?" is a bit of a daft one outside those situations because generally 'dog' in modern English is used for both sexes.

Anyway that's my bit of sympathy for OP as I can see why she would find it a bit weird and irritating if used excessively.

twitterexile · 11/02/2023 15:49

Possibly the most ridiculous OP I have ever read.
A female dog is called a bitch. There is no strange Barbour clad 'type' of person who is able to use the correct word without fainting - it is completely normal FGS.

Why don't you get our knickers in a twist about something important like the fact that it is becoming verboten so state the correct definition of the word woman? Just to avoid any confusion, a woman is an adult human female.

Seriously? 😂

schloss · 11/02/2023 15:54

Personally I think the OP is trying to use the "offended" opinion about the use of the word bitch to be an underhanded swipe at pedigree dog owners, normally those who show, leading up to Crufts in a couple of weeks time. There are always these type of posts scattered around on various media outlets.

A male dog is a dog, a female dog is a bitch, a castrated male is a dog, a speyed bitch is a bitch - thank goodness we haven't got into transdogs or transbitches yet........give it time though 😉

🍪
I’m not into healthcare and medicine myself but I often come across people who are and especially amongst the "nursey/doctory typel” people they seem to take pride in using the V word (that rhymes with Regina) as much as possible and it turns my stomach.
All these bloody gynaecologist and midwives talking about vaginas....and I'm like please, just say the baby comes out your 'flue'.

Do you feel the same about the proper naming of other body parts, like penis or anus, or is your revulsion reserved for vaginas?

And "flue" is ambiguous, I've known some people use it to refer to arseholes.

PurpleParrotfish · 11/02/2023 15:56

@LakieLady I think you want to switch your sarcasm detector on!

MrsMattMurdock · 11/02/2023 15:58

This thread made it on to MumsnetMadness on Twitter after about 3 replies. Got to be a record.

Hadn't thought of this - you are probably spot on. Off to Crufts on the Friday of the show - can't wait!

God knows what will happen if OP overheard a farmer complaining about his fucking cows. She’ll probably hyperventilate.

Howling!!

FiveOddSocks · 11/02/2023 16:11

But realistically it’s not normal terminology you hear on everyday conversation and the word is more used in a derogatory fashion than in a factually correct way

I completely disagree. I have heard it in everyday conversation all my life,
not every day of course, but often enough for it to be in regular usage and my understanding of it to be a female dog. Then again, I know a few people who have working dogs rather than fur babies, so that might make a difference.

OoooohMatron · 11/02/2023 16:16

Heartsandbirds · 11/02/2023 13:57

YABU. You call a female horse a mare, a female donkey a Jenny, a female cat a queen. It’s just the correct terminology. It’s a mile apart to use it as an insult.

I have a female cat and have not once referred to her as a Queen, just the cat. Although she'd probably like queen better come to think of it!
