Dog people who use the B word

DonnaBanana · 11/02/2023 11:21

I’m not into dogs myself but I often come across people who are and especially amongst the more breeder-y/training/“Dog life” people they seem to take pride in using the B word (that rhymes with pitch) as much as possible and it turns my stomach.

I know that female dogs are technically called that but they seem to endlessly use the word even in contexts where it’s not relevant to mention the sex of the dog. For example “oh yes I was training my B the other day and my B made a mistake so I didn’t give my B a treat” And I’m like please just stop, call it a dog or by its name. You are just trying to be offensive.

It’s such a shame such a horrible word is used for two reasons but AIBU.

Would you rather people referred to their female dogs as laydees?

Dogcafedreamer · 13/02/2023 11:09

@DonnaBanana when you say you live in a dog town, do you mean Barking?

I heard that in David walliams voice 😅

Everanewbie · 13/02/2023 13:41

I know what you mean OP, it is said with a degree of relish, possibly even venom knowing that they are "correct". I had a friend who loved referring to Elizabeth I as 'The Bastard Queen' as it was a great opportunity to use a swear word in context she could get away with it in.

Surely only a child would do this.

Most adults I know don't try and find ways to swear, they just do it.

Dotjones · 13/02/2023 13:54

"Bitch" is the correct term. If you don't like that word, that's your problem, but console yourself with the fact that there was a time when a female dog was commonly referred to as a "slut" which in my view sounds worse.

Adults can "get away" with swearing in all
sorts of everyday ways! I certainly don't need so say bastard Queen and it's probably the lest likely way I'd use the word.

How often did you discuss Elizabeth 1st fir this to happen?

I was wondering what a dog town was 😂.

It was in school ands she was 16. Bad example maybe. Its the correct term, we all know that. Its just about the relish with which bitch is said almost feels childlike. Its hard to explain and justify, I think the OP would be unreasonable to challenge someone on it, but to think it is used at every opportunity by certain people and with glee is opinion I do agree with.

PartridgeInAChair · 13/02/2023 14:45

I can't get my head around an adult saying the word bitch with glee.

musicalgymball · 13/02/2023 15:15

It's glaringly obvious why some people like to use some words that are offensive over and over again. They enjoy it.

That several pp don't seem to have noticed this or don't like me calling it out as a mini power trip doesn't make it not true.

Who are these people you speak about?

That's true, of course, but if 'some people' are looking for offensive words to use over and over again I'm pretty sure they could come up with something a hell of a lot more offensive than the word bitch, which really isn't that offensive, surely, unless they're 11 years old.

Listening to the kids of that sort of age I pass in the street, their conversation peppered with far more offensive words, I wonder how some people manage to actually live in the real world.

"The B word that rhymes with pitch" has got to be one of the silliest, prissiest things I've ever read on MN.

musicalgymball · 17/02/2023 15:26

@PartridgeInAChair for an example we'd both know, there are databases full of songs littered with expletives that are misogynistic at best.

RainyDaysareCarp · 11/02/2023 11:28

I hope I don't offend people when I talk to them about my cock and hens. eg my cock was up at dawn this morning . My neighbours have complained about my cock wakening them up. Should i call him by his name Eric?

I can’t talk to people about my pet whale. I wish I had chosen the orca rather than the sperm.

I’m going to say YABU but i have noticed horse people who have female horses say “ my mare” and people who have make horses say “ my horse” rather than “ my gelding” or “ my stallion”.

*misses point of thread **^

No people who own stallions ALWAYS manage to tell you they own a stallion. They're like vegans in that respect.

TBH I am guilty of using "my mare" but I like to fight the prejudice and stereotypes by letting everyone know that my wonderful little horse is a mare when she being level headed and sensible and easy.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 17/02/2023 20:24

my mum calls them girl - dogs and boy dogs. I personally find that pretty weird. Used in context it isn't an offensive term. Breeders who don't name the girl dogs give me puppy farm ick though so I'm with you to an extent.

IndiaDreamer · 17/02/2023 20:44

@Everanewbie you're taking about a 16 year old in school using the term bastard queen? I'll assume you're now an adult!

Fucking get over it!!

How bloody wet can you be!

I am well over it thanks. It didn’t offend me then and doesn’t now. The point I’m making that I think you are deliberately trying to misinterpret is that I don’t doubt the OPs post suggesting that people say these terms that are generally offensive with a degree of relish when they know they’re being technically correct but unnecessary

Blossomtoes · 17/02/2023 21:50

It’s only recently this has been considered such a dreadful word. It was just a word when I was a child, it certainly wasn’t swearing.

I’m 57 and it was swearing when I was a child, but not in the correct context.
