Dog people who use the B word

DonnaBanana · 11/02/2023 11:21

I’m not into dogs myself but I often come across people who are and especially amongst the more breeder-y/training/“Dog life” people they seem to take pride in using the B word (that rhymes with pitch) as much as possible and it turns my stomach.

I know that female dogs are technically called that but they seem to endlessly use the word even in contexts where it’s not relevant to mention the sex of the dog. For example “oh yes I was training my B the other day and my B made a mistake so I didn’t give my B a treat” And I’m like please just stop, call it a dog or by its name. You are just trying to be offensive.

It’s such a shame such a horrible word is used for two reasons but AIBU.

I hope I don't offend people when I talk to them about my cock and hens. eg my cock was up at dawn this morning . My neighbours have complained about my cock wakening them up. Should i call him by his name Eric?

Now, surely you realise that by gratuitously shoehorning the term ‘cock’ into all poultry-related sentences, you’re ‘trying to be offensive’, and causing fits of the vapours in your hearers?

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 11/02/2023 11:37

I am out with my dog about 3 hours a day in total but never hear this. I would not find it objectionable if it was the term used, as I find it rather twee and cringe a bit to be asked if my dog is "a girl or a boy" by other dog owners.

Piglet89 · 11/02/2023 11:39

My cat is a total motherfucker, if that helps.

Would it be better to use pullet?

MissingMoominMamma · 11/02/2023 11:39

Pullet your cock…

DopeGirl · 11/02/2023 11:40

I agree OP.

Your average dog owner says ‘my dog was barking all night’ or if you know them well ‘Cassie was barking all night’

These dog type people ‘my bitch was barking all night. She’s a fussy bitch, not like her brother who is calm. I’ve had this bitch 3 years blah blah blah bitch blah bitch bitch bitch’

There is a weird sort of glee to it too. Like you can’t say anything because it is factual terminology. But realistically it’s not normal terminology you hear on everyday conversation and the word is more used in a derogatory fashion than in a factually correct way. They know when you hear it you’re more likely to associate it in the derogatory context of the word. They are always a certain type of dog obsessed person too.

Obviously others on mumsnet don’t get where you’re coming from and that’s fine. But I get what you mean. I’ve met them.

Crumpetdisappointment · 11/02/2023 11:40

i dont think it s twee to use girl or boy
male or female is more usual
never bitch on my walks.

Crumpetdisappointment · 11/02/2023 11:41

i think it must be the breeder/farming types, as you say in your op

gogohmm · 11/02/2023 11:42

I get a bit tired of dog people who talk like that but that's because they are "people who know about breeding dogs" into crufts etc and it bores me, couldn't care less about the actual wording

MuseThrower · 11/02/2023 11:44

I’ve got three bitches. I usually call them twats.

Burnamer · 11/02/2023 11:45

Piglet89 · 11/02/2023 11:39

My cat is a total motherfucker, if that helps.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

OP, the word is Bitch.
If you want us all to discuss it then at least write it. I don’t understand the inability to use the words. What happens if you type it rather than alluding to it with rhymes?
Rape is abhorrent but I can say the word.

2bazookas · 11/02/2023 11:45

Some bitches are really stupid.

Chersfrozenface · 11/02/2023 11:48

It is extremely twee to use 'boy dog' or 'girl dog'.

Also, an adult domesticated bovine is a cow. That word is also used pejoratively about women. Nobody gets upset by butter companies boasting that their product comes from cows e.g. cows that eat grass rather than animal feed.

Yes I get it too. They seem to be the Barbour wearing, Hunter welly types. Not meaning to offend anyone but hey ho.

Giggorata · 11/02/2023 11:48

I generally refer to my dogs as the bitches they are when I want to specify their sexes.
Really not trying to be offensive, don't find it offensive.
Can't help thinking it's a wee bit Hyacinth to mind…

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 11/02/2023 11:52

What makes me feel uncomfortable is "lady dog"! My husband and I have had three dogs through most of our marriage - different combinations of dogs and bitches. If I was talking to the vet or a trainer or anyone who knew dogs but didn't know my dogs I would usually distinguish between them as "my oldest dog" or "my youngest bitch" etc because dogs and bitches behave very differently and it makes sense to put their behaviour in context with regard to their position in the pack and their sex.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 11/02/2023 11:53

Fucking hell fire how the arses do you leave the house every day if you’re so bastard offended by a word being used to cocking describe what it means?

I can’t be doing with adults who are offended by swear words. You’re not a 10yo girl, grow a thicker skin.

Same as my cat

Although this morning was a special delight, when he jumped up onto the bed, landed on the dog, and got pissed off at the dog.

Piglet89 · 11/02/2023 11:39

This gave me a proper laugh 😂

Hoardasurass · 11/02/2023 11:54

I've had dogs all my life and now have a bitch. The only time anyone refers to her as a bitch is when she's at the vets or being booked in. Most dog walkers I know and meet talk about males or female dogs however bitch is the correct term for a female dog so if someone chooses to refer to her as a bitch I'm fine with that. Why does the correct use of a word churn your stomach and what other words do this to you?

Do your neighbours have a daughter called Dawn ?

SomeCommonThing · 11/02/2023 11:58

Yabu. A female dog is a bitch. Correctly sexing animals is quite important.

Moonflower12 · 11/02/2023 12:00

@RainyDaysareCarp
My then 3year old DD, named our friend's cock, as Woody Pecker Cock. Amused us no end!
