Dog people who use the B word

DonnaBanana · 11/02/2023 11:21

I’m not into dogs myself but I often come across people who are and especially amongst the more breeder-y/training/“Dog life” people they seem to take pride in using the B word (that rhymes with pitch) as much as possible and it turns my stomach.

I know that female dogs are technically called that but they seem to endlessly use the word even in contexts where it’s not relevant to mention the sex of the dog. For example “oh yes I was training my B the other day and my B made a mistake so I didn’t give my B a treat” And I’m like please just stop, call it a dog or by its name. You are just trying to be offensive.

It’s such a shame such a horrible word is used for two reasons but AIBU.

Ooh it’s like how Aunt Marge says “if there’s something wrong with the bitch, there’s something wrong with the pup”

i get you OP

Just twigged your username! 😂

Haha! I only just cottoned on to that too Blush
It has been one of those days.

lobeliasb · 11/02/2023 19:42

I'm from the US and only dog breeders use that term really, so it always throws me when someone asks if my dog is a bitch. It's a little jarring but I just go with it, but I never use the term myself. I just say she's female

musicalgymball · 11/02/2023 17:42

YANBU.

These are people who just delight in saying the word and getting away with it. Everyone knows it's a derogatory term for women and some people just get kicks out of being able to say "forbidden" words with impunity and being offensive for the sake of it.

A tiny power trip to brighten their days.

Not ‘forbidden’. Last time I looked we were free to use any words we want. Nothing to ‘get away with’. Look up the history books between the years 1939 and 1945. A lot of people died for our freedoms. Wonder what they’d think if they knew how things were now.

XenoBitch · 11/02/2023 19:47

I think OP will pass out when she discovers that the word bitch is in even in soaps now... pre-watershed.
It is refreshing to hear it in EastEnders. Sometimes accompanied with a slap.

How ridiculous

My favourite is Molly Weasley in Harry Potter. "Not my daughter, you bitch."

EllieM27 · 11/02/2023 19:49

My dog’s nickname is bitch-dog. Not for reasons of terminology, but just because she’s a bit of an arsehole.

saraclara · 11/02/2023 20:03

I hate people referring to their dog as a boy or girl.

In active threads I keep seeing thread titles like 'today we lost our boy' or 'our little girl died today'. My stomach lurches and then I find that they're talking about a dog. FFS.

I would hate to see "Today we lost our bitch" more.

I really don't think so...I don't comment when people say it, I just don't say it myself as it doesn't come naturally to me

FFS sake indeed !! A lot of people think of their pets in these terms. I had two cats known as my two girls. If it triggers you, don’t go on the bloody threads !!

Or Ripley - ‘get away from her you bitch!!’

That is what my name is based on... the 'Xeno' is from xenomorph (the aliens in the Alien films), and bitch is from the quote you mentioned.

To be fair generally they're posted in the appropriate topics

I don't go on the threads. I just see the titles in the active list.

If people want to talk about their dogs as boys or girls in the body of their post, that's up to them. But a thread title that a little girl has died? That's really upsetting...until you realise it's a dog.

Before you start, I know the grief of losing a uch loved pet. But it isn't the same as the death of a young child. It just isn't.

They are, but that doesn't stop those titles appearing in 'active threads'

PartridgeInAChair · 11/02/2023 20:49

How do some people live their lives being so offended and scared every day?

According to Mums DH might kill me and swearing is really bad. So people are living their lives being so afraid.

I lost my 18 year old Brother in an accident, lost other people etc.

Fuck that I'm going to live my life.

CoffeeLover90 · 11/02/2023 20:50

RainyDaysareCarp · 11/02/2023 11:28

I hope I don't offend people when I talk to them about my cock and hens. eg my cock was up at dawn this morning . My neighbours have complained about my cock wakening them up. Should i call him by his name Eric?

This is just brilliant.

OK, so you want people to mentioned that their girl or boy is actually a pet in the title?
It is upsetting, to the OP. Losing a pet is horrible. Someone who has no kids will never know the pain of losing a child, but to say their pain is less or not the same, is also a pretty shitty thing to say too.

Mariposista · 11/02/2023 20:54

This is literally the only scenario where using the bitch is actually acceptable. That is what a female dog is called. To use it against a human is rude.

So you live your life not hearing rude words? Bless you.

LOL me too. And we're not alone - heard Rylan on his radio show a bit ago reading out a listener's message - you know, Saturday afternoon radio 2, usually light stuff, and he you could hear the wheels going round as one penny dropped then another: "we lost our boy a couple of months ago [pause] oh my god, I'm so ... Oh, it's a dog, blimey, I thought you were talking about a child there"
