Vomited blood, should I ring 999?

So scared right now and don't know what to do. Had heartburn feeling all night and tickly throat and kept dry heaving. I've also had runny stools (sorry if TMI), don't know if they are connected.

However just been sick bright red blood Sad

Wtf do I? I didn't feel unwell or anything, just the heartburn but seeing the blood has scared me

Call 111 I would. Or do their online symptom quiz thing which will tell you what to do

XenoBitch · 08/02/2023 23:55

Call 111.... this in not a MN thing to look up.

007DoubleOSeven · 08/02/2023 23:56

I would.
Is there anyone with you?

windinthetree · 08/02/2023 23:56

As from NHS website

Vomited blood, should I ring 999?
PinkDaffodil2 · 08/02/2023 23:58

I’d try 111 unless you’re confident your GP will be able to see you tomorrow.
If you’re feeling more unwell in yourself, faint, or you’re on your own I’d consider going to A&E but I don’t think 999 is necessary presumably it would take loads longer to get an ambulance out than to get a lift or taxi to A&E.

Irisheyesareshining · 08/02/2023 23:58

If I was you I would make my way to the nearest AE department , I wouldn’t wait hours for an ambulance.

Notcontent · 09/02/2023 00:00

Don’t bother with 111. If you are vomiting blood that’s pretty concerning and you need advice now, not later.

Tireddoggymum · 09/02/2023 00:01

Get to AE ..runny smelly poo and vomiting blood is probably a GI bleed ! If you live close to AE I would get someone to drive because an ambulance could be a long time yet !

youshouldnthaveasked · 09/02/2023 00:05

Yes. I agree. A&E.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 09/02/2023 00:09

Get to A&E.

Aldisfinest · 09/02/2023 00:09

100% A&E. Stupid question but is there any chance you've eaten anything red ?

Itisbetter · 09/02/2023 00:10

How much blood?

redfob · 09/02/2023 00:12

I've felt fine all night, not ill or anything other than a dodgy belly and a sore throat.

I'm really shaken up now, I have bad health anxiety and this has made it worse. I feel ok, just shaking because I feel scared.

To the poster who'd asked if I'd eaten something red, I've had bolognese earlier but this wasn't there, there was normal sick first, then red tinged sick and then blood at the end Sad

What do I do? I don't want to waste time if it's nothing.

What you do is go to A&E. They will tell you if it is nothing to worry about. We can't.

windinthetree · 09/02/2023 00:15

@redfob you've had everyone say either call 111 or go to A&E so that's what you do

Health anxiety sucks but your concern is valid

Tempone · 09/02/2023 00:17

This is an emergency
Best of luck drive to a and e.

Dintananadinta · 09/02/2023 00:17

Go to a&e.

redfob · 09/02/2023 00:17

I feel ok now though so I don't want to go A&E right now as I know I'll be waiting hours. Anybody know if it could be heartburn related? Just trying to think of what it could be

So if you are feeling ok now call 111

nocoolnamesleft · 09/02/2023 00:18

A&E. With luck it will just be nasty gastroenteritis, and a Mallory-Weiss tear secondary to the dry heaving. But it could be a serious gastric bleed. So you need to get checked out.

XenoBitch · 09/02/2023 00:18

Vomitting blood - got to A&E

@redfob go to A&E, now!

Dartmoorcheffy · 09/02/2023 00:20

Get checked out, but I can say if you've already been sick and there wasn't blood, and you've been wrenching and dry heaving then it is probably just from that. Sounds like possible food poisoning to me.

redfob · 09/02/2023 00:20

I'm going to ring 111

OP posts:
Aldisfinest · 09/02/2023 00:21

I would call 111 as you're not keen to go to A&E, it's good you're not having any other symptoms. But they can assess you and decide whether you need A&E or they can get you to an emergency gp appointment tomorrow.

Dartmoorcheffy · 09/02/2023 00:21

They should be able to put your mind at rest.
