Lee Anderson being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party.

I'm genuinely disturbed by what on earth the government is doing....Is anyone seriously worried at what the hell is going on?

Apologies if this is a dupe post, couldn't see anything here or on the politics board.

He's a fucking horror show. The Conservatives have given up.

DuncinToffee · 09/02/2023 10:15

Anderson also calls for death penalty to be brought back

Do you think that?

There's two other possibilities that I wonder about:

a) they have become so arrogant they think they'll get away with anything

or if we're going full conspiracy theory:

b) they know everything is completely and utterly fucked; so if they lose the next election they can leave Labour with the ultimate in hospital passes and blame them for the worst of the disaster that's coming. Our economy will be screwed for some time and public services are absolutely wrecked, whoever is in power.

Roussette · 09/02/2023 11:12

That's not a conspiracy theory at all.

It's pretty obvious they are going to lose and lose big at the next GE, it's like running a company that you know is being closed down in a year or two. Certain people would take what they can, push the boundaries, give mates backhanders, grab money where they can. And that is what they're doing.

They will be handing Labour a poisoned chalice.

ilovesooty · 09/02/2023 08:24

Not to mention the alleged coke taking in Parliament.

The Labour Party dealt with this issue promptly and rightly so.

That's the difference isn't it? The Labour party do at least attempt to deal with bad behaviour. The Tory party celebrate it with promotion.

Well yes, I'm with you on that.

While I'm pretty convinced that's the strategy, can't really assert it as fact, but it's an extremely likely scenario.

ilovesooty · 09/02/2023 11:46

In appointing him Sunak has made a naked appeal to the potential Conservative voters who might vote Reform instead. He knows what he's doing.

Tirednest · 09/02/2023 11:51

Sadly politics has become such a toxic environment to work in it will increasingly attract extremists and nutters.

Can I sincerely ask what is so objectionable about Lee Anderson?

He’s a thug.

DuncinToffee · 09/02/2023 11:56

Conservative party, the new UKIP?

They’re busy feathering their own nests. Not a Tory voter but at least previous Tory governments had some decent people in them. This lot are just downright corrupt.

I miss the days of Ken Clarke, Michael Heseltine, and even John Major. I may not have agreed with them but they had a moral compass.

Endlesssummer2022 · 09/02/2023 13:19

Why can’t the normal Tory’s start a New Conservative Party and cut the current Brexit cult adrift? Similar to New Labour who had to cut off their own cranks They could do well against Starmer.

BIWI · 09/02/2023 13:21

... because a lot of the 'normal' Tories, as you put it, are also Brexit supporters.

MavisMcMinty · 09/02/2023 13:24

Even Thatcher, who I loathed as much as any miner did, would be preferable to this morally derelict government of “Tories”. Even Thatcher. And I never thought I’d be saying that.

BIWI · 09/02/2023 13:26

I know@MavisMcMinty! I've found myself nodding along recently to Michael Heseltine and John Major. I never thought that would happen!

No normal person can still support Brexit. It’s national suicide.

MavisMcMinty · 09/02/2023 13:32

Brexit is a religion, a cult. My erstwhile best friend used to laugh at the Moonies and their mass weddings, but cannot see she’s a cult member now herself. It is faith-based. It’s like trying to explain evolution to a creationist.

Funny isn't it?! I know people who... at the time of the Brexit vote... I know without a shadow of doubt they voted to leave. They told me at the time! They are now denying they voted for Brexit and rewriting history. I can't be arsed to argue with them about it but I KNOW.

My best friend voted out. It comes to something when she admits she made a mistake because she never admits she's wrong Grin

I thought you were going to say the Tories want to make use of Thirty Pee Lee's extreme right wing mates or something.🫣

Your b option isn't a conspiracy theory, it's reality and @Roussette is spot on.
