To think we're blatantly being trolled....

Lee Anderson being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party.

I'm genuinely disturbed by what on earth the government is doing....Is anyone seriously worried at what the hell is going on?

Apologies if this is a dupe post, couldn't see anything here or on the politics board.

I say this as someone whose would be classed as centre right - If you think Lee Anderson should be anywhere near government, then you’re part of the problem.

This former Labour councillor (and it doesn’t stop there, he was on the staff of the previous Labour MP for the constituency) realised there was a career to be had playing up to the right wing crowd.

He’s no Conservative, he’s a 2 bob chancer that’s hitched a ride on the Brexit loon bus.

This isn't about right or left anymore is it, it's about common decency. Holy shit think of all those centrist Tories that got the sack under BoJo's Brexit purges. I can't imagine how much better the country would be if someone like Rory Stewart had won the leadership contest.

He is an interesting choice isn't he ? I think it says a lot about where the Conservative party are at. Fractured beyond belief, so much infighting between the various factions, a tiny puddle of talent left to choose from.
They need someone who can stand front and centre and spout, with a straight face, whatever squirrelish bollocks is required to detract from the absolutely shocking state the UK is in. They need someone who can bully any detractors and/or decent MP's, Raab is caught up in his own bullying scandal so 30p Lee it is !

I'm horrified they can pick and promote a proven racist, with an ASBO against him, who until recently was Labour party but was expelled, who has video and Twitter (his own writing) showing his lawbreaking corruption - and give him a job.
In another workplace, eg. a school, this would make him UNSUITABLE.
The government are hiring like the Met Police are now being exposed for.

Support the EDL / Skegby Scooter Club? yep
Spendthrift entitled very thick man? yep
No education past 16, no looking at yourself or others or political history in the past 30yrs?

I agree we are being blatantly trolled. We have been since Johnson took office. He, Truss and Sunak are all utterly incompetent as politicians and humans. , Therefore they could not/cannot afford to appoint anyone who has competence greater than there's i.e. the vast majority of people.

They scrape the bottom of a very dirty barrel to find people even less able and/or scupulous than themselves. That results in the likes of Shaps, Braverman, Zahawi, Badenoch, Coffey, Williamson, Raab, Patel, Fraser, Jack et al being handed positions of authority/power.

I've been a lifelong lefty, and even I think fondly of the likes of Major, Clarke, Heseltine etc., I'd say even Cameron and Osborne didn't seem so greedy, corrupt and delusional, in comparison to the power-crazed, greedy, deluded fuckwits currently fucking us over.

We are being trolled by not only those in power, but also those who vote them into power.

This is spot on.

i’m a left leaning centrist (I know centrists are generally though of as the beige of politics), and can agree that once upon a time there were conservatives I disagreed with but respected. They were intelligent, competent adults who wanted the best but had different views on how to get there.

now, it looks very much like conservatives of that ilk have been driven out, and we’e left with the absolute dregs who have pretty extreme views, with none of the intelligence or competence that their predecessors had.
