Lee Anderson being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party.

I'm genuinely disturbed by what on earth the government is doing....Is anyone seriously worried at what the hell is going on?

Apologies if this is a dupe post, couldn't see anything here or on the politics board.

Sorry for typos.

Mellymoon · 08/02/2023 03:57

Lee Anderson was the guy who was caught setting up a guy to pretend to be a constituent wasn’t he? Jeez this government don’t surprise me, it’s just a race to the bottom of the barrel.

@MrsTerryPratchett

"These shrivelled-hearted, vacuous, self-serving shisters aren't worth a bar of even a halfway decent Tory."

Can you put this into something remotely resembling English please?

I am sure that if you contact you local college they will help you learn English. The rest of us understood and the fact that you dont suggests that the issue is not with @MrsTerryPratchett

Redebs · 08/02/2023 04:41

He's a typical Tory.
I don't know what else you'd be expecting from the Nasty Party.

Thank you. That cheered me up on a day I was needing a good laugh.

Hopefully simple enough for the pp.

Basecampzero · 08/02/2023 04:58

Honestly, I don't think in living memory there's been such a dreadful rabble. You wouldn't choose this bunch to run the school tuck shop, so why they're running the country just baffles me.

How Rishi Sunak thinks it's a good idea to have someone as deputy party leader who became a national laughing stock after that clip of him pretending his mate was a bog standard constituent on TV FFS, is just mind blowing. Like the PP said, there have been some decent Tories close to the Government in the past, even the loathsome Thatcher knew she had to have a few people with intelligence and a social conscience among the indoctrinated lapdogs.

They're not even pretending to be credible any more. If this was a Labour Government the media would be hounding them out of politics, let alone leading the country.

HarlanPepper · 08/02/2023 04:59

Totally agree with the nostalgia for the Tories of a bygone era! I found myself remembering Theresa May with something like fondness the other day. Never voted Tory and never will, but we've drilled right through the bottom of the barrel to some new realm of horror.

Worried2222 · 08/02/2023 05:12

I haven’t watched the news since the Tory party corruption during the pandemic came to light, and I couldn’t bear to watch Johnson’s lying, incompetent and patronising handling of all of it. Amongst other things they are responsible for sending patients with covid back into care homes and the deaths that followed as a result.

They are corrupt and incompetent with authoritarian tendencies, intent on watering down our democracy and rights, while presiding over the ever continuing shift to greater than ever inequality.

Yes and previous like John Major in charge instead would be like finding an oasis in a desert.

Worried2222 · 08/02/2023 05:13

*previous Tories like John Major

IAmTheWalrus85 · 08/02/2023 05:28

VeniVidiWeeWee · 08/02/2023 01:42

@Sirius3030

You may consider him unpleasant, but please show evidence of his lying or bigotry.

The OP's bigotry is self evident.

You’re aware of the incident when he was captured on video asking a friend to pretend to be a constituent who supported his views?

smooththecat · 08/02/2023 05:29

‘EVIDENCE!’ The cry of the online right. It has gotten so old. Get a new trick.

ListenToTheFacts · 08/02/2023 05:57

Come on...come on...who forgot to give the lefties their bedtime milk? Settle down and get some sleep 😂

borntobequiet · 08/02/2023 05:58

This is the clip mentioned by a pp, if it’s not already been posted.

Evidence!

Lemonyfuckit · 08/02/2023 06:05

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/02/2023 01:44

I've been a lifelong lefty, and even I think fondly of the likes of Major, Clarke, Heseltine etc., I'd say even Cameron and Osborne didn't seem so greedy, corrupt and delusional, in comparison to the power-crazed, greedy, deluded fuckwits currently fucking us over.

This. There have always been vaguely competent Tories whose views I don't agree with but who I do believe have the courage of their convictions and who see politics as for the public good and their role as creating a better country.

These shrivelled-hearted, vacuous, self-serving shisters aren't worth a bar of even a halfway decent Tory. Repulsive people who shouldn't be anywhere near public life.

100% this.

Thepeopleversuswork · 08/02/2023 06:09

They have totally lost whatever moral conviction and competence they once had.

And the denial of the fact that Brexit has been Britain's suicide note is deafening and no one is buying it any more. Even the red wall types know now. It's the elephant in the country.

They'll be gone at the next election but sadly I think its too late for this country. The damage they have done will take generations to reverse.

Snarf23 · 08/02/2023 06:17

Or maybe it’s just those of us watching in disbelief the die hards are still defending that despicable bunch of humans that are called our government while they drag the country to the ground.

@MrsTerryPratchett sums it up nicely!

Berrystraw · 08/02/2023 06:19

ListenToTheFacts · 08/02/2023 05:57

Come on...come on...who forgot to give the lefties their bedtime milk? Settle down and get some sleep 😂

Surely we got past this kind of comment after Cameron’s ‘calm down dear’ incident?

Seriously - if you can’t muster up any kind of argument - what’s the point? It’s partly this petty name calling bollocks which has led the Tory party down this absurdist path. Grow up.

Purplehyena · 08/02/2023 06:24

Lee Anderson the man famous for;

  • Lying and setting up a mate as a ‘random’ constituent to sing his praises on front of camera
  • Blamed food bank users for their situation, claiming you can eat for 30p if only you’re bright enough
  • ’Disowned’ the England team for taking the knee
  • Investigated for assault on campaigner Steve Bray
  • Said charities supporting asylum seekers were the same as people traffickers
  • Was reprimanded for his ‘extremist’ comments on traveller communities
  • Has one of the highest staff turnovers off all MPs, and those he has he thinks nothing of exploiting them online to try to point score

That’s what I remember off the top of my head, but there’s more I’m sure.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/02/2023 06:24

He wasn’t even a member of the party 5 years ago. Now he’s chairman. That’s how shallow the talent pool is for the tories.

PAFMO · 08/02/2023 06:24

VeniVidiWeeWee · 08/02/2023 00:25

Why are you worried?

Because he, presumably, holds views different to yours?

Or are you just a bigot?

The irony of someone calling someone who doesn't support Anderson a bigot is...ironic.

PAFMO · 08/02/2023 06:25

BitOutOfPractice · 08/02/2023 06:24

He wasn’t even a member of the party 5 years ago. Now he’s chairman. That’s how shallow the talent pool is for the tories.

Don't forget him changing sides at half-time.
Call me naive but that tends to say a lot about a person.

BubziOwl · 08/02/2023 06:31

I have to wonder if certain people on this thread know what the word bigot means...

But yes, I totally agree that the tories are at this point just beyond parody. It's incredibly depressing that we just accept this behaviour - this isn't even about conservative politics (which I do also disagree with), but it's about decency and integrity and respect for public office.

I agree that even Theresa May felt like she at least had a shred of integrity compared to the current lot.
